My previous coach, mostly traditional swing teachings, had my chest square to or slightly behind the ball at impact and not forcing a turn until the momentum of my arms pulled me through and into follow through. This is why I've adapted to Jim's approach so easily and has me very comfortable with the setup and swing after having practiced his swing for ONLY FOUR DAYS(!!). 🤟
Hi Jim, I know these are old videos and I just so happened to stumble onto them but they are great! Thank you for your simple instructions and mind set of golf. I try to complicate by hitting so hard, hand rotation, etc. I play on a woman’s Tuesday night golf league. I used your technique last week to play. I hit some of the best shots ever in my time of playing golf. My drives amazed me because I didn’t try to push them. When I took golf lessons many years ago the instructor had me start off with the bump and run, pitch, etc. Through the years I lost those simple drills and instruction. Going back to those now. Thank you, Thank you!!! ❤
Hi Jim, I was profoundly injured in 2015. 3 years away from golf. I was a 7. When I returned, I instinctively played from closed shoulders because it hurt less. Then I found your stuff. It has helped. In my case, I was already strongly drawing the ball. Employing your setup, I finally just weakened, really weakened, my grip. Now I’m hitting little baby draws about 150 with an 8 iron. Short game hasn’t caught up yet but I’m a 76 year old disabled veteran, who then had a second disabling accident but who can still hit the tee ball 275 with no weight shift. I embrace the circle and work toward perfect stillness. I thought I was through with the game I love but closed, weight left and still have allowed me back to where the course is a comfortable place. Appreciate your inquiring mind.
Jim Jim Jim, honestly I can't thank you enough, I've struggled for twenty years fading and hooking the ball, now following you I'm constantly drawing the ball and hitting it 30 plus yrds further, however I have a small problem with concentration as I lose this around the 14th hole and start to slice again, something I am working on, having said that I've only been using your swing for one week so doing great, i can't thank you enough. Glynn from the UK
Jim you are exactly correct. I tried your method, I experienced more power and distance with less effort, almost taking all the fun out of the struggle. You are the best golf teacher. And it does take more effort in concentrating not to use explosive strength when swinging. With the bonus of better results. It is the exact opposite of what I would have expected, I still can’t wrap my mind around it. A mystery revealed. You are a genius of a teacher.
After over 60 years or trying too hard to hit at the ball with my big biceps from weightlifting in my tweens...I found you Jim venetos...just in time to hopefully show a simpler, better way for my great niece& nephews to really excel at a game for their next 60 years..if they just watch your vids& take other advice for granted. Caden,Kyle,Khloe,&even Kim these tapes by Jim venetos make golf fun, simple, and almost easy...this is a great time to learn the sport of a lifetime.😎
i posted on an older video but wanted to post on a recent one just to let you know i'm 53. been playing since i was 18. never consistent. always hitting off the toe, slicing, hooking, hitting fat, thin,, now i've stumbled across your videos and i'm so excited for the rest of my life.. can't wait to put your teaching into my practice.. the way you explain makes total sense now... i will give you an update on my progress in the next few weeks.. Thanks Jim for returning my love for the game!!!
Hi Jim. I studied quite a few of your videos last night and visited the range today. I started off really well then I shanked a few and realised that this was because I turned myself before contact. However I then practised without hitting the ball on tracing my closed shoulders with my swing and also holding the club with a much lighter grip. This worked pretty well. I then started to dip my lead shoulder very slightly and "wow" the ball went like a rocket especially with my short irons.I realise that Rome wasn,t built in a day but I am really learning to adhere to what you teach with an odd adjustment of my own.I find keeping my body still very easy to achieve and I just have to control my swing on the in to out plane at all times. When things do not go right I instantly know why and I am striving to overcome these things just as the Dummy did. Please keep the videos coming I and many other golfers thoroughly enjoy them.Thanks.
You are right, Jim! I so much agree! Been working on this for a long time. Started with 9 iron and hitting it around 100 yrds. Finally just relaxed, pivoted into left, incorporated stillness and hit it 130 yards at the driving range. This is such a mental thing, but stillness is the key! Now, applying it on a the course besides the driving range is my challenge. I’ve told many about this but every golfer is stubborn in their own way and I believe this is a very personal journey - we all have to go through the school of hard knocks, it seems. Good info Jim, thank you!
I signed up for your academy this week. For whatever reason, this video really speaks to me. I have so much trouble with trying to "muscle" the golf ball.
@@lbeau061 Still in the academy. I hit tight draws throughout the bag! It's brilliant. I hit my first scoring goal before it got too cold to play here. So I've been working with Jim on my putting stroke. Can't recommend the JVGA enough!
Started playing at 58. 8 months into my journey and nothing but frustration and expensive golf lessons and pain. I was ready to quit. Used your swing at the range after work today and hit 85 balls and miss hit about 10. I looked up at the end of my session and people were watching me hit the ball with smiles on their faces. Best practice session ever 👍
This is great advice my best rounds of golf occurs when I don’t try so hard it’s counterintuitive but it’s true. I like to think “let the club do the work”
Yes! When I watch Mr Venetos swing it reminds me very much of a Kenny Perry type swing and it always surprised me how far he hits it while not appearing to over swing or force anything. Many things in the golf swing are just the opposite of what one might think should result.Tks Jim
I've just stumbled upon your website and the swing that you teach. All of your techniques, both setup and swing make so much sense. I will be out there trying some of them today, i.e.; weight on left, closed stance, partially rotated body at address, and the stability of the body, right up until the follow through. I've worked on line previously with Terry Bradley ,with his "2/6" swing method, which is built around the setup, which is a little different from yours, but a main essential of the swing, is keeping the body still and centered, which he refers to as "staying home". I'm looking forward to readjusting my setup to what you are teaching, and allowing the swing to just "happen". Thanks, gave you a thumbs up , and I will be a future one of your fans and followers. Art
I was stunned by this. I been going to a simulator. The easier I swung, the higher my ball speed and the further the ball went. Less likely to pull the ball too.
Nice Jim! I need to submit another video to you. But my gosh! I’m hitting the ball so beautifully it’s just the best feeling ever! I went through my bag today. Smoked 3-4-5 irons with just no effort. Anyway, great video and thanks for everything! Kevin.
Terrific Jim....have a question and an observation....I sent you a vid btw and while I was watching it saw how much I was tilted to the right even though it felt like my weight was on my lead foot....I then went back and watched your setup and saw that your whole body was more or,less over your left side...does this make sense to you. Thanks.
Jim can you please confirm that addressing the ball with shoulders closed at "2 to 7" should be sufficient. I sometimes think that I close my shoulders too much which seems to produce a large draw instead of the slight draw I am looking for. Thanks.
You open your left foot and you still shift your weight. You can’t be perfectly still with your body because it’s going to naturally want to turn. I understand your explanation and can see the value. It’s an easy repeatable swing in which your arms from the momentum of the downswing causes you to naturally turn and fire down the target line with lag.
I have just found you and love your videos....quite mesmerising😊 It resonates with me as a leftie playing rightie, setup virtually taking out fat shots and I like letting the club swing effortlessly.. Setup and swing being closed is doing my head in, but will put some time in. In the setup with weight fwd does this generally drag head slightly in front of ball or does it stay back at ball🤔 I'm an Aussie so you might need to type reply slowly....thx
Jim her is my question: about the cicular path, 2 golfers are “A” class from your instruction, one is 6’ 4 and the next one is 5’2. Which one goes farder?
Went to the range again today, have recently got fitted for new irons, got the bump and run down, been working on the 1/4 & 1/2 shots and feel like I have good mechanics and still working on stillness and feel like I see what you are talking about but I know why the setup felt similar, my friend basically does something similar when he has to hit a strong draw or hook, he lines up with his whole stance to the right of the target but his club face right at the target and swings down his stance line and it works somewhat for him and that's what this setup and swing feels like, but like him sometimes he and i still square the club to the closed shoulder line and the shot goes right, unfortunately I still hit fat and thin shots even though I feel like my upper and lower body are pretty still on the backswing. I will keep working on it because I have committed to the process but I am just hoping that somehow I can get my ballstriking to be much better with this swing setup
Great video Jim.....allowing gravity to determine the speed of swing is exactly what I struggle with. I actually find myself debating that very point while.e I’m playing.... I notice in the video that it seems like your grip is very relaxed and that when you start down you produce some lag... am I seeing that correctly.? I try to just let my arms fall but I think I fail...any thoughts or ideas to help with the downswing. Thanks
was kinda questioning some of ur content as I have never seen someone talk about subjects in golf like u. BUT I GOTT SAY, those two nice draws there at the end made my brows rise :). I might give ur skeptics a try :))
Jim, when we keep our body parallel to the target and hit an inside-out swing, the ball takes a slight draw flight. However, when we keep our body at 45 degree (close to the target) and hit an inside-out swing, don't we see the ball making a draw flight to the 45 degree line or way right of the target?
If you can line up neutral and hit a consistent draw you are a rare bird in the general population of golfers. No, you won’t start at a 45 degree angle, it’s just easier to execute the inside out swings you’re making from a neutral stance.
@@jimvenetosgolf Thanks for the response, Jim. So, just to clarify on your set-up, our feet are somewhat aligned to the target and our chest is to the right of the target (closed), correct?

I was joined up with a guy last year while I was on vacation. He told me, or his words warned me, that "I talk to myself while I play". I said okay... it doesn't bother me. As he was setting up for all of his full shots - he would repeat out load to himself: 80% - 80% that's all we need - as he would take 2 rehearsal swings - then he would make his shot. Most were beautiful golf shots and all remained in play. After a few holes - I borrowed his idea - and inside my head, I began saying to myself 80% - that's all I need 80%. I played well that day and started a new habit to avoid swinging too hard. Give it a shot... :)
I've been told by a wide variety of "informed golfers" all my life that for your 3/4/5 irons you MUST swing harder to get the ball to achieve the distance the club is designed to provide. Based on what Jim is saying, I guess that is not true? Any thoughts anyone?
Just watched a recent video from Golf test dummy and he shoots an 83 after doing your course for 4 months? I thought he would have been to the "unconscious competence " stage by now and shooting in the 70's by now. Maybe I was misunderstanding but I know he probably can't practice every day or so but I thought once he got down all the fundamentals and stillness that his swing would still be so repeatable that he should still shoot under 80 all the time. Not trying to be the total pessimist but I thought he would have been further along than that by now I guess.
