This seems like a great camera and I'm thinking of purchasing it, but I have a major concern. There are some issues I read on the amazon reviews that the permissions are very invasive. They want call logs from your phone, browsing history and the ability to download and upload files from your phone. I'm aware other apps request certain permissions, but can these permissions on the YI camera and app be denied and will the camera and app still function if disabled?

Hi, nice review, I think it is the best you can find about these cameras, but I miss the Xiaomi Mijia 360. It is supported by the MiHome app as well as the originals home cameras, but not the dome.
didnt you have a message that told you that the camera can only be used within China ? impossible for me to use it in France, bought it in China. also installed all the updates available for us and China version, dont work

I'm not sure - are you referring to limited home wifi data? I believe it's not "uploading" that video data *unless* you remotely pull a video stream down, or have it setup with their new paid cloud subscription plan
I had the Yi 720p with night vision here in the Philippines for 4 years now and non stop playing. I just bought yesterday the Xiaomi Router 3 so that I can put an external hard drive on it and expand the recordings up to 30 days or use all the storage space of the hard disc.

It was an issue with T-Mobile. They fixed the issue so as long as wifi is on at home and you have network data connection while away from camera you can view live stream.

Wait up, you can select specific motion detection region for the Yi home camera 720p now? Can you do the same for the pan/tilt model?
Yes on the 720p model, and no on the pan/tilt. (It makes sense, as it'd be very difficult to determine specific regions on a moving camera.)

These cameras support rtsp. At least the cheapest version. Just use rtsp://:554/ch0_0.h264
is it possible to make the dome camera support rtsp?
To my experience - no. Only first gen 720p camera with old firmware support rtsp.
