This reminds me of the setup I have for my 3 car cameras. I couldn't hardwire them at first, so I got a Blackvue Power Magic Plus battery pack. It charges while the car is running and powers the cameras, then when I shut the car off, it keeps the cameras running. It's seamless, there's no power interruption, and as long as I drive or have the car running for 30-45 minutes a day, I get 24 hour camera coverage for my car.
So I’ve got my yi cameras installed .. if you don’t mind me asking what WiFi router do you have ? Dual band , having issues with the cameras going offline
Thanks. This is a big market opportunity for someone. I've been looking for something like this for a long time for my WYZE and SimpliSafe Cameras. I have a large UPS for my modem and router, but if the cameras have no power, what's the point, right? I will get one of these and experiment with it. Someone also needs to make an outdoor generic solar power supply with battery for cameras of various voltages. That would be a big seller. As you pointed out, the cheap battery bank should work if it was modified by the MFG to provide continuous output while connected to power source and if power source is disconnected.
Hey Hector! I also have a wyze cam. I am looking to install it inside my car, its been vandalized. but I notice this bank is shutting off after a few hours , I need it to capture overnight...are you having this issue?
Great review, what's the feature called when the battery pack loses power it doesn't interrupt the camera and automatically takes over? I'm looking for one for my nest cam indoor this should work rite? Also are there any newer models available or better power banks, & how's your battery holding up? Thanx for your help
I will whenever I get a chance to purchase a 64 GB card. At this time, my 32 GB records up to 10 days (activity motion recording) on my 1080p dome camera.
Question: Why does the wifi on the Yi camera still work if the wifi is block by an outside source, but the camera is connected to the power device? I have other brand 2.4g cameras I hope this step work the same.
I also want to back up my modem/router so that it doesnt turn off when there’s power outage. What’s the best UPS that has the longest run time? Or can i also use powerbank for router? Thanks
I have an APC 600 VA UPS. There are a lot to choose from -> amzn.to/2QGRuWi Run time will depend on how many watts the devices are running...it states that it will run for 32 mins with a 100 watt load...the modem/router should be lower than that...so I'll probably get it to run for several hours... haven't really tested it yet. You have to get UPS and not a powerbank.
No, although they have their own power supply, which should have at least some galvanic separation between the AC and the DC side. So if the voltage is too high in your wall socket, it should not affect the device you're powering (it'll probably fry up the power supply though).
What happens after the battery has run out (and the camera shuts down), and then mains power is restored? Will the camera start up right again right away, or does the user have do something?
Hey, nice vid, got one question, after for example emergency power cut off, if i dont have any additional power bank, would this camera reboot, connects to wifi and starts working again autonomously or i need to do this manually and locally?
LifeHackster Thanks for your detailed explanation on alternative power source. I've two questions... 1. If i insert a sd card right away after unboxing and power it up... Will it start recording? Or i must have to setup initially with wifi? 2. Say if i configured with phone & wifi for the first time, unplug & moved it to another location where there's no Wi-Fi, will it start recording as soon as plugged in? Or again it'll search for Wi-Fi? I'm planning to install in a remote area where there is no wifi & backup power. Will it restart and continue to record on power restart? I've searched whether someone asked the same question but couldn't find. Thanks for answering!!!!
I have 8 of these cameras (fixed & Dome), in theory it should, and they normally do, BUT they don't always. I found locking down the IP addresses of the cameras in your router seems to help.
What is the name of the back up battery pack again? Where do I buy it at? How much? Thanks for your videos. I will purchase the Yi camera and the power pack. Have a bless day
Is there an ideal way to hook this up to a solar panel and set up with an ourdoor camera. Trying to figure out a way to set up without running a new electrical line outdoors.
You need to have a battery pack/power bank to power the camera and the power bank is being charged by the solar panel. I haven't tested this but it can be done.
Would you say these batteries are ok in different forms of weather? I am planning on using a junction box but in my area we have some extreme summer temperatures.
Another excellent, simple, easy to follow video. Question: have you tried something like the Hypergear 14508 Power Brick Portable Charger, rated at 24000mAh? It is considerably larger than the TalentCell (about the size of a thick paperback), but, as indicated, delivers a considerably longer charge. If your 3,000 mAh unit lasts 5-6 hours, the Hypergear should last 40-48 hours, which would be enough for a weekend away from home. I am not 100% sure that the Hypergear could be used in this way, however, so this is all theoretical at this point.

There might be... but one thing you need to check is that if the power bank is unplugged from the wall, it will not cut off power to the camera. A lot of them do that..either you need to push a button to give power or it will cut off for a second which is enough for the camera to reset .
@@LifeHackster I watched a video about this camera from this other guy, and he keeps telling me that you can't charge the yi camera it has to be plugged in or it doesn't work, why is he saying that? Hi, I have tried with several regular power bank too and no one haved work as backup battery. ThisTalentCell backup battery is a good option. Yes get a power bank at best buy then get a usb cable to connect to the camera. Before you buy it take the camera with you into best buy and make sure it hook to the power bank. I did that. You can use any USB powered adapter that hooks up in your car..If you are planning to use it like a dash cam, Yi makes a dash cam - amzn.to/2wgHOqs I don't recommend battery powered cameras / devices inside a car because of the heat...
I'm assuming you took off the micro SD card from the camera and wanting to watch the footage. You can just plug in the SD card in your computer and look at the files...they are broken up on folders ..they are MP4 files.
