Always find it amazing that El Paso is ranked as the first or second safest city in America and then you have Juarez a stones throw away which is pretty much the unsafest city in Mexico.
I’m really enjoying these Videos God Bless you and your Wife for taking us along You do a Excellent job with the videos Soo beautiful I been trying to watch all of them again Thank U
In 1965 my girl friend's, later my wife, Father bought a new 1965 G.T.O and drove from Toccoa, Georgia to El Paso to visit her Uncle and his wife and daughter. Her Uncle James Smith was retired Army and met his wife in Juarez . He worked at Ft. Bliss for years and over the years he would bring his wife and daughter back to Georgia for a visit. He loved El Paso and he and his wife are buried there, his daughter still live there and works at the Social Security Office.
El Paso has grown so much since we lived at Ft. Bliss in the 70's. We have so many fond memories of it and the surrounding area. Thanks for showing everything!
I used to live on Fred Wilson Rd. across from the old Beaumont Hospital. I went to Ross Jr. High School. On the other side of the base. I had to walk home after track practice...some times I feel like I'm still walking....😂
All your videos are awesome and I love it. Even though I am thousands of miles away from you in Kenya I really enjoy your videos. I have watched each and every one of them and I feel like I know these places already. Thanks for taking me along with you sir.
This was so interesting and enlightening. There's some beautiful architecture in El Paso, and the church towards the beginning of the video is gorgeous. Beautiful drone footage at the beginning, and your music is always spot on, and suits the location perfectly. As always, I love to see the kitty cats !! Thank you so much, very much appreciated. 😊
One of my favorite things about El Paso was the scent of creosote in the air. They’re these shrubby little plants that smell like ozone or fresh rain. Sometimes you’d think it was about to rain, but it’d just be a draft of wind carrying some creosote scented air in through the windows. Then when monsoon season kicked in the scent of both rain and creosote was incredible!
Thank you Mr. Spoda for the video on El Paso, Texas. I haven't been to El Paso in a few years. I have traveled around most of the city, love the view into Ciudad Jarez, Mexico when driving through town. Secondly, you really have some of the best videos on RUclips.
Just want to say hello. Today I watched several of your videos. "El Paso: Ground Zero" , I grow up in El Paso, and that pond downtown with the statue of several alligators. That location in (1960's) use to be the downtown city park to exit or catch a city bus back to your neighborhood. I was with my mother, age 5yrs. Well back then that pond had water with live alligators. It was the typical blue color like a swimming pool and had maybe 4 to 5 alligators in it. FYI...take care, great show.
Great overview! I live in T or C, NM and El Paso is the closest large city. I feel much safer there than in Albuquerque especially in view of all the car thefts in Albuquerque. I go there for shopping every month or so. Great city. People don’t realize that Las Cruces, NM, El Paso and Juarez are one very large metropolitan area. I have stayed at that Marriot also. I was in a higher floor large room. It had a view of Juarez and the stadium. Very nice. I’d recommend it.
Nice video man, moved to El Paso from Florida last July. Much prefer it here, 100% more real. The weathers great to. Hot cold rain snow...you get it all. Florida hot rain hotter rainier... Come back for Monster Jam. Cheers
Love watching your content, appreciate that I can tour the real USA from my home in Australia 🇦🇺 your combination of informative and interesting touring around is perfect ! Thank You 😊
Your pronunciation of Chuhuahita was correct. Also if you’re still in area go do a video on Mesilla, NM especially a meal at La Posta Restaurant. Love your videos!
Did you go to the McGoffin House or the Franklin Tramway? El Paso surprised the hell out of me. It feels more New Mexico than Texas, but it's safe, the surrounding desert landscape is stunning, and there's good food. Not sure I'd want to live there, but it's an interesting place to pass through. But it produced Beto O'Rourke, so not all is perfect.
Always nice to hear your wife's voice in these videos. I'm from wisc. And it amazes me how flat that part of Texas is. Hey if you see a squirrel named sandy cheeks tell her I said hi
San Jacinto plaza used to be called "Plaza de los largatos" Alligator plaza. It actually had 3 live alligators in a pond, until some teenagers killed them in the 1960s or 70s I think. Then it was switched to statues. The plaza changed name to San Jacinto when it was remodeled in the early 2010s
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Before the remodel, it was really old and run down. Back when I was a kid, it used to be the bus terminal connecting all the buses to the entire city.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip this person is wrong. Yes they closed it in 1965 because of people abusing the alligator’s. However, it’s always been San Jacinto Plaza. Plaza de Los largstos is just another name people would call it because of the alligators. Official name has always been San Jacinto
My nana told me about the stories of the alligators. I was born and raised I. ELP. I moved to so cal As a teen n have been here since almost 30 ys. Mom has passed a young 63 and my dad just passed in October. A military vet. Both parents grew up in the projects as did I as a child on the weekend with my nana. I took my bf with me to dads funeral anyhow I took him on a tour of the city especially el Segundo... He decided to propose to me at the alligator pond. It was sweet but funny .... I never imagined the san jacinto park was my proposal place. I would there to eat McDonald's with nana. On the weekends.
I saw your video of you driving from Steamboat Springs to Pueblo,CO. Y'all passed through a town called Canon City,Co. It looked really interesting to me and I would have loved to have seen more of it! Do you think you might do a video on that? I really like all of your videos!
Hey, remember when the USSR waged war, took over Berlin, and then built a wall that separated families over night? Well, that's basically what happened to El Paso. Except in El Paso's case, families were at the mercy of American outsiders who moved into Texas at the request of Mexico but then waged war against Mexico. Ironically, though, El Paso wasn't even part of Texas until 1850, thanks to the Compromise of 1850 (slavery), but it was still impacted by the war waged by the Americans against their Mexican hosts. (Btw, I have a degree that largely focused on History from ultra-conservative Liberty University.)
El Paso looks wonderful! I love the rock lawns and desert trees. The houses are nice. The downtown is very nice. Thank you for all of the info on the migrants, El Paso and Juarez. I loved the intro!
Lifelong El Pasoan here, living on the west side. I used to hate living there because I thought nothing happened. It turns out I was just a kid who had trouble realizing just how much beautiful history we have. There’s something incredible about looking over the border wall and seeing a whole other country.
El Paso is going through a major rebuilding stage throughout the city, as you can see. It's long over due. Downtown is going though a major renovation. A man by the name of Billy Abraham used to own 14 buildings downtown. Many of them in the historic registry. For decades he refused to sell even though he didn't have the funds to fix them. Some of them had been closed down for safety reasons. Recently he was forced to file bankruptcy and about 11 of his buildings were sold in auction. Many of those are now being renovated. Downtown El Paso is hopefully heading in the right direction now. Hopefully it'll keep attracting more and more people to make it a great place to congregate
best city in texas because it's not as humid and uncomfortably hot like the other major texas cities, and it has actual mountains, although the hill country of austin and san antonio is pretty. el paso has that true southwest feel, san antonio a little too, but most of texas cities feel much closer to the southeast than the southwest
I looked up our address. House looked same but there were not any houses across St. now, there is. Yard in front looks like gravel. Then it was grass. I love your tours. Found you last week. Been traveling with you. Thanks so much.

I would just like to personally say "Thank You Both " ! I have been watching you for a while and have gone back to see earlier episodes of your travels . I so appreciate your gift of showing how beautiful that our country is . your expo of the towns with the facts and figures is a great point of understanding each area that you explore . I have learned so much in your videos that is a great education for myself . I am a widowed 62 year old and my wife and I traveled for twenty years before she became sick . I so loved this particular episode as I drove from ct. To el lasso in 1976 . my brothers friend was moving there and we drove a cj5 to his brothers home there ! We went to Juarez the next night . first time a left USA soil . so this bought back so many memories . Sorry I'm a bit long in this but I just wanted to thank you ! God Bless Your Travels ! I was not a great student but your channel has provided so much history of our USA . I wish kids could learn from your channel as I have . Again Thanks for the education !
@@timothykraus7654; I'd like to thank you Sir for your two comments. I did not get good grades while in Junior and High School. I had some medical issues and I didn't apply my entire self into my studies. I learned too late that a good education was essential in getting a good paycheck without breaking your back everyday. I developed a hunger for American and, WW 2 History while a Sophomore in High School. Many times my family traveled from California to Oklahoma to visit family. I remember well passing through some of the towns I'd read about in my History Books. I wanted so much to be able to visit those places but my father was always in a hurry to get the trip over. He and mom would trade places driving. We'd stop for gas/ restroom brakes and, they'd stop in a city where they'd have a big market, buy bread, lunch meat and a jug of milk with some disposable cups. I later in life I started exploring some of our Deserts and old Ghost Towns. Lord Spoda's channel is one of my favorites. I get to explore without leaving my recliner. Stan in Idaho
I work out almost daily so I know what it feels like having a good gym. 97% of hotel gyms - if not higher - across the country lack one good cardio equipment. Rowing Machine!. NY times published an article over a decade ago comparing Rower vs Treadmill vs Static Bike vs Eliptical machine and rower came out on top. It is good for those having weak knees (age related as well).
Great content, as is all your input, really enjoyed El Paso when we visited from the UK, crossed over to Juarez only stayed about an hour it was very intimidating.
Have you ridden the gondola up to the top of the mountain? I forget the name but the view is awe inspiring. You knocked it out of the park. Come to Phoenix and visit south mountain park. Whole valley is visible.
@Lord Spoda I love the Joe, I love the history, I too like architecture and old church's. I have a question if you don't mind, why are some building call "shotgun" houses? You've certainly educated me on the demise of so many towns as look up what happened in the 1980's in America. Thank you once again, keep it up. 😊👍
@@davidmahan4160 They’re called that because of the long narrow design. The idea is you can open the front and back doors, fire a shotgun bullet through the house and it won’t hit anything. 😀
wow nice views. if you live near borderline you wont have far to go to either Texas or Mexico. i live in San Antonio and love it. we get some bad weather but not like Dallas or Houston. thanks for sharing
You guys are so funny. El Paso is fuuull of history. John Wesley Hardin is buried there. Las Cruces, Pat Garrett. The Gadsden purchase. When first mapped they had El Paso 8 miles north of its position. Thanks for the great video.
My Mom said that back in the early 60s her, her sister , father and mother went and visited El Paso and actually passed into Juárez. This was long before the drug boom of the 70s and especially 80s so Juárez was actually relatively safe. Her father was a police captain at the time and served in Korea, so he was very careful with his family. Alot of things changed when the CIA propagated the drug trade...
Wow, 1 dead 3 wounded at El Paso Cielo Mall today. Right next to Walmart, where there was a mass shooting on Aug 3rd, 2019, 23 killed and 23 injured. Hope you're both okay.
What stood out to me about El Paso while traveling on trains from California to points east was the amount of stone walls visible. I see the same in the hillside homes area you showed.
The right name of the dog 🐶 is chihuahueños with ñ which is not in English alphabet, but it was hard to most people in the USA 🇺🇸 say that name, so they start calling chihuahuas. By the way the male pronounce chihuahuita right. Lady was wrong. But she said el gato correct ✅😉
Back in the days,On the weekends we use to go to downtown & walk around & cross over to Juarez & eat at the mercadito. We would also eat at coney Island right across from the Placita. El Paso has alot of Amazing People & YUMMY MEXICAN FOOD! I love my hometown, no matter what peoples opinions are. My husband retired from the Army, he is from Del Río, Tx. We stayed in my hometown. Had to get him use to eating the El Paso way 😂Not sure if you have gone to Bowie Bakery, amazing Mexican sweet bread. Want to eat some good Mexican food, go to L&J’S CAFE. EL PASO IS SO DIFFERENT THAN OTHER CITIES IN TEXAS!
San Jacinto Plaza originally had seven alligators in a pond. Between 1953 and 1974, Several were killed or injured by vandals and the remaining were then sent to the El Paso Zoo. The pond was removed in 1974-1975. A sculpture, by a local artist, honors the original alligators.
Ya missed that GIANT cat mural. Grew up going to Ciudad Juarez as a kid. Had family in Pecos and we used to go into Juarez to shop. Last time we went to Mexico was Matamoros down by Brownsville. Had a terrible experience. Witnessed a shooting. Reported it but they didn’t care. I’ve never been back.
Thanks for another great video. I do think however, that every place you said "there's some grass", was actual artificial turf. It was too perfect in length, brown spots and trim. That said, good for them putting in something pretty that also conserves water.
Back in the late 60's spent a little time at fort Bliss we spent most of our time training at Mc Greager range New Mexico. We would catch the bus to Bliss then a bus to El Paso then walk across to Juarez.Never explored El Paso don't remember anything about the city.I do enjoy your video's.
I was stationed at Fort Bliss in 1971-1972 and recall that Juarez was about double in population as El Paso. I liked it there but a large part was going to Juarez which today I wouldn't dare. I liked it so much I thought about just staying after being released from the Army. The wages were too low and jobs were not easy to get. Especially when compared to the area I went home to. I recall Montana Avenue and Dyer Blvd. the most. At Christmas they mad luminaries, sands with sand and a candle they looked beautiful. As I recall the luminaries would be along side the road that was called overlook street. Great view of the city.
I was at Blister from 84 to 86. Do you remember the Kentucky Club in Juarez? US military are forbidden to go into Juarez now. Such a shame, had some much fun over there, it was like being in an Indiana Jones movie.

Thank you Mr. Spoda for the videos. It's greate! We like it!
Stay safe and AGAIN THANK YOU BOTH ! as I can longer travel this is such a joy to all of us that live to live and learn . Timothy P. Kraus . A dedicated follower !
Thank you, Timothy. And you can post long comments all you want. I enjoy reading them. :)

👍Thanks. Fascinating. Interesting to how the conservative elements such as EP's military presence all help the low crime-rate.👍
I lived in Las Cruces for many years, and I have a lot of fond memories of El Paso
Excellent video. I especially like the intro video and music. Well done!
Very Interesting to watch. From London, UK.
Have you ridden the gondola up to the top of the mountain? I forget the name but the view is awe inspiring. You knocked it out of the park. Come to Phoenix and visit south mountain park. Whole valley is visible.
I have. It is cool.
Love your videos Joe & Nicole, they are both educational and entertaining, thanks for sharing 😊👍
Glad you like them! :)
I've always been curious about El Paso. Thanks
Good hearing Nicky in the video, she can be funny, Found a Gato / cat Hehehee Good Job. Thanks for the hard work making these videos
WOW! How El Paso has grown since I was last there. i. e , Interstate systems , etc.
Excellent video. 5 out of 5 for the two of you. Thank you for sharing.
Love traveling the U S with the both of you 👍👍👍
Awesome!
Live in EP currently, love this city❤️
Are you coming back anytime soon to make a visit to Odessa, TX and and visit other oil towns in the area of the Permian Basin?
Yes. Within the next 6 months.
There's doctors in Pakistan and India waiting to come into this country and others cut in line
El Paso,Texas is known as the Sun City in the U.S.A. is a good place to live and work, Also is one of the safest cities in America.
your production is getting even better.
Thank you, Michael!
Wow, 1 dead 3 wounded at El Paso Cielo Mall today. Right next to Walmart, where there was a mass shooting on Aug 3rd, 2019, 23 killed and 23 injured. Hope you're both okay.
Thank the Lord
What stood out to me about El Paso while traveling on trains from California to points east was the amount of stone walls visible. I see the same in the hillside homes area you showed.
I love this place, l am in Africa and l wish to visit this place someday
Loving the music you chose for this video
You are clocking the miles on the Bronco. I see the wifey is keeping your Spanish straight.
Also, the park in downtown used to have live aligators in it, that's why it looks the way it does.
I remember looking at the live alligators when I was a kid while waiting with my mom after a day of shopping. Brought back old memories.
I lived in El Paso most of the 70s. Everything was less expensive. Good memories.
Cool looking city nice and clean, I have to say it looks very inviting. I didn’t know that Mexico was a stones throw from El Paso.
You spelled right chihuahuita at 10:37 that’s how it’s pronounced. I enjoy your videos, keep on.
Thank you for the trip.
Great video been there a few times back in the 80s while serving in the US Army El Paso looks good ..
I've nothing but good experiences in El paso
There's the cat!! 🐈 Saw it. I never been to El Paso. Nice!!!!
the first time you said the area name is how i have heard it pronounced for over 20 years in roswell n.m.
Those two trees at the 20:47 mark are spectacular
EL PASO IS SO DIFFERENT THAN OTHER CITIES IN TEXAS!
very nice videos, it feels that we go there. they re very informative
El Paso seems very clean.
Interesting.
Hi lord how are you and the wife doing? I just wanted to tell you that i really really love your channel.
Thank you, Marietta!
Thanks for another great video. I do think however, that every place you said "there's some grass", was actual artificial turf. It was too perfect in length, brown spots and trim. That said, good for them putting in something pretty that also conserves water.
That makes sense.
Thanks for all the info. I had no idea El Paso was so large.
Is Juarez more dangerous than Chicago? Thanks for this video! I spent 2 years at Ft. Bliss and this brings back some fond memories.
Spent two summer months at Fort Bliss. That area was roasting! It was so hot downtown that it was forcing my eyes shut hahaha
Bro!!!! You're cruising around in my home town!!! Text me, We'll do lunch!!! (My treat!!) 🤘✌️☮️✝️🇺🇲🎸🎶🎵😭😂🤣
Filmed last Saturday..I think they're long gone now..don't tell me you were gonna take them to Chico's Tacos 😂..they would have the Runs still today.
Looks a lot safer and better maintained than a lot of the other towns you have toured. Looks like Beverly Hills compared to Pine Bluff.
