We visit Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I explore the beautiful downtown and later we visit the state capitol building. A drive to the famous Mike the Tiger habitat on the LSU campus is an eye opener.
We stayed at the Drury Inn.

If you would have went south of LSU and around the lakes, you would have seen million dollar houses.

It's funny how you mentioned the sudden change from a low income neighborhood to a higher income neighborhood... because it's literally that way over the entirety of Baton Rouge. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

I've lived in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas here all my life. Yes the crime has increased but so has the population that started back when Katrina hit us. It's been one storm after another that brings more people to our Beautiful city. We have a very beautiful city rich is southern hospitality and creole cooking you can't find anywhere else on this earth!! We let the good times roll...... but as you have us on your list there are areas of the city that have more crime than others. I live life for Jesus so I don't fear, but use wisdom, at the same time choosing to look at the beautiful state I've grown up in. It's home and always will be. Ty for coming to our state.

I’m a firm believer as a resident of BR that it is definitely one of the most depressing cities in America. It’s like a small company town where everyone feels trapped under the local infrastructure but with 300,000 people in it.

Interesting fact for ya: Huey P. Long was the governor of Louisiana, he was gunned down in the new state capitol. You can feel the bullet holes in the walls where the bullets ricocheted. Just thinking about how one of those bullets carried the fatal shot to end his life is a super creepy feeling to have. But thank you for coming to my city, I hope the food was good wherever you went to eat.

Many of these neighborhoods look worse than usual due to Hurricane Ida last year and the huge 2016 flood. Many people have not been able to get funding to rebuild and the local government management is seriously lacking.

We moved to baton rouge when I was eight ...I've lived in a few places around the south before that and since all over ...on the west coast now . The comments here are a major matter of perception. I went to Glen oaks high ...grew up just north of south of greenwell springs off Sherwood . I'll say I have lived places that were shockingly segregated in this day and age and frankly Baton Rouge was one of the most diverse and racially accepting places . It's the one thing that makes me miss it . It is dangerous . I have to laugh when people say don't go out at night up here . ha ! I grew up in Baton Rouge ,please.

As a Louisiana native. I’m ready to leave the state. It’s a bitter sweet relationship but mostly bitter.

I lived in the City of Central Louisiana which is the first city north of Baton Rouge. I lost my home and everything I owned in the floods of 2016. I got screwed by my insurance company, which for those who don't know is controlled by FEMA. Such an evil part of the government. After living with a friend a couple years they needed the room so I had to leave. I couldn't afford to buy a new home and even rent a place I was forced to move up to Dyer Indiana where I rent a room. I hate it here. People are rude and not very friendly. I'm surrounded by crime from every direction. The climate is absolutely horrible. I miss Louisiana so much and my heart aches for home. Thank's for this video. It really perked me up. My heart belongs in Louisiana. I'm lost without her.

I grew up in Baton Rouge and it really can be a very beautiful city, but like others have said, it's also quite dangerous. I wish that the government would put more money into more important things, like the public schools and such.

I've lived in Baton Rouge for a few years and like to go exploring when I can. Your video offers a decent overview of the city, and I picked up a few tidbits that I didn't know. Nicely done. If you make it back to the area, I recommend checking out Mid City. That's another distinct texture of Baton Rouge, and they've done a lot of renovations there to make it a fun area to explore.

I remember visiting BR on a New Orleans trip and man.. the downtown was so quiet, even on a weekend but I still enjoyed it, pretty peaceful. But crazy how split this city was in terms of one side looking clean/safe and the other side looking extremely sketchy.

When the weather warms up, the city hosts "Live at Five" outdoor concerts on Fridays. They are held in that area with speakers.

I live on the edge of LSU’s campus and the change from nice housing to super rough areas is literally just a walk across the street

When you noted that the Capitol reminded you of the UT tower, it reminded me that it was actually used as a stand in for the UT tower in a movie called The Deadly Tower about the sniper Charles Whitman. I was working nearby and watched them film some of it.

Years ago, my little brother walked up all the steps inside the state capital. He started at the lowest basement then all the way to the top. He was the first person to do that . He was front page in the peoples section of the news paper with 3 huge colored pictures. He was recognized for months afterwards.
