My grandma says Lucky was her great grandpas brother, and grew up hearing stories from her Daddy about him. She’s told me about him and the racetrack, but I just looked him up and found so much more! Thanks for posting this, how cool!
Definitely worth the visit and leisurely walk for me..the cottage, lake and prehistoric forest is quite a lovely dream. I got to watch flocks of geese, swan, and ducks soar through the forest and down to the lake. It really is like no other and worth a few bucks to enjoy
Queen Anne of Great Britain. She reigned between 1707-1714. She was the last queen from the House of Stuart. She was succeeded by her second cousin George I from the House Of Hannover. During the reign of Queen Anne, a style of building and furniture started to sprung up, rightly titled, Queen Anne Styles.
I fell in that moat when I was 5. It was disgusting and I cried 😆 then I had a blast after that exploring and collecting peacock feathers. Eating KFC on the lawn with the family. One of few family memories I have...
Been there numerous times it’s a beautiful place, even had high school cheerleading pictures for GHS annual, though don’t remember if it was for 1979 or 1980?
"De plane, boss. De plane!" I understand that the the only scene from the old "Fantasy Island" TV series that featured the cottage was the opening title sequence. I'm not absolutely sure because I never watched more than an episode or two of the show. I know the show was popular, but not with me.
Not to detour anyone from visiting this place but there are only 2 bathrooms one at the entrance and one hidden in the back. The tram system hardly every runs so be ready to walk for EVER . Also most of the flowers and exhibits were dead and unkept, water was drained from the small ponds and the disappointment still sticks with me.

And the Indians killed/ate the original animals who inhabited the lands....and the animals ate the plants and insects.... And so on and so on... Life is messy, tragic, and ultimately unfair.
Yep the Spanish and Mexicans did the Slaughtering those Brown people better start paying reparations I'm sure the Catholic church has the money they stole alot of the land in the name of Christ!
I know what you mean. The first time I watched a Huell Howser show, I noticed how much he said "Wow!" Then in the end, he received writing credits. So that means, that every time he says "Wow," he actually wrote that! Yeah, he was kind of a Forest Gump type, but he also had one of the best jobs I can imagine having. And in most of the episodes of all the shows he made, you can tell that he's genuinely having a great time. Wow!!! I think he was an exceptionally fortunate man. And I have come to love him and his shows.
Mr22thou check out his bio in Wikipedia. Corn Pone hick from Tennessee gets a gig in LA and ends up falling in love with California. I grew up in Arcadia and didn’t know a damn think about this place. Drove by it hundreds of times.
I miss Huell Howser California Gold 😢😞😔
I miss Huell.
Huell was a treasure...a very nice man.

You go there relieve the stress you have, then get back on the freeway on your way home, and arrive home, totally stressed out again.HAHA.
Moved to Arcadia in 1974, then to nearby Temple City. Was fortunate to have been to the Arboretum many times.
Then something happened. The Huntington is completely ruined. No "Blue Boy" and a Chinese pavilion adds to the unwanted eclecticism.
just a great place to visit you can learn so much
All the film history. WOW

This episode was aired back in 2000
They Asked Me What Flavor Of "M&M'S' I Prefer......"DA PLANE"
Ahh close enough
I don't know who Baldwin was, but apparently pulled some good strings. Maybe that's why he was called 'Lucky".
Dude was a Pedo do some research...
yayayaya

The problem is lack of sufficient funding. In the 1980s-early 1990s LA Arboretum was in great shape.
It looks like Huell is wearing a silk shirt. This must have been in the early 1990s.
edit: Anaconda came out in 1997, so this is from the late 1990s

He went to some interesting places but his corn pone accent and corn pone interview technique ruined it
"This is a pond? THIS is a pond! Amazing!" Classic Huell.
Vince is a piece of work as well: "I don't even know who Queen Anne is!"
Well, I enjoy Huell even with his accent. If you can't stand him, why do you watch his episodes ?
Gary Williams no that’s the best part!
