  • in August 2023, the lads (and Brother Eric) completed a 6 day loop from Cedar Lake with campsites on Catfish, Redpine Bay (X2), Hogan, and Radiant lakes. The weather was hot for a couple days, and torrential rain for several days... basically a perfect camping trip!
    Come along for the ride, and thanks for watching!

    Looking forward to watching the rest of the loop. I've done this area a few times but never gets old watching other people's perspective 😊. Always have to get an early start on cedar or else it starts kicking up really bad around noon.

    Great start to a trip. We have had the wardens talk to us twice at Brent as well. Kinda a good thing, I guess. They were kind, at least. Look forward to the rest of the trip.

      We talked to the girl at the office, who warned us of high volume. We were checked while unloading the boat, and again 15 minutes later during our crossing. Seemed excessive… and out of the norm at the time. After seeing the calamity at the first portage, and the size of the group off permit… it all made sense.

    Cedar was really nice; as you said, "Cedar was behaving." There are a nice number of waterfalls on the route. We enjoy the banter between you guys. Cheers ✌.

      This was the second calmest I have ever seen that lake… very lucky! Day one was hot but it was such a beautiful day to be on the water. You can tell we have been friends too long… the banter is constant these days haha

    Great timing, planning a similar route this summer but I'm thinking to come back through Catfish instead of Radiant.

    It's a good felling to get past the traffic at the early portages, you guy's killed unicorn hill. Looking forward to watching the rest.

      Thanks for watching! The trick to unicorn hill is knowing that what seems like a never ending uphill slog does have an end point, once once you reach it the rest of the way is a piece of cake in comparison. The worst of the hill is RIGHT before the top… so a little push and you are essentially home free

    Aligators were made in Simcoe (Norfolk County) Ontario. A few hundred meters from where I live.

      Yeah , when doing our research on the French River we got down the “Alligator” or warping tug rabbit hole. Neat story and very cool relics to find.

    Shangrala is probably my least favourite campsite. I know so many love it but not me. We stayed there in 2022 and when we woke up there were cockroaches in all our gear including inside the tent poles. Yuck…never again.

      Yeah we have had some experiences with the roaches on the island. Just need to seal up all food and hammocks are a little nicer. The view makes up for the crawlers in my opinion. Only campsite we have had this experience though

    how are yall filtering your water if you need to put Mio in it? or do you just prefer flavoured water?

    • @SingleMaltAndMaps
      @SingleMaltAndMaps  5 месяцев назад +1

      We use an msr gravity filter. We don’t NEED to use mio, but prefer to add some flavour. A nice ice tea or lemonade sip after a long portage just hits different !

      @@SingleMaltAndMaps I totally agree, having some flavor is great. I was worried y'all were just using chemicals or steripens to treat your water. That always tastes bad.
