Okay I love the idea of Sol Badguy's drive being a taunt that lets him transform after 5 uses, but it's gotta be 6 instead so that he can say D-R-A-G-O and N with every use with him yelling install on the sixth, you could even have the letters be next to the super meter as a cool way of representing it!
If that makes it to hard for the player base to use then they can make it either "D-E-V-I-L" for 5 uses "R-O-C-K" for 4, "Y-O-U" for 3 and finally "F-U" for the TURBO mod

He lost all his memories in dying but remembers Millias name so he comes back to life with strong desire to protect Millia. Long version: Millia Rage was in abusive relationship with zato so in return for the abuse by him she kills him however eddie (zatos demon inside him) keeps his body alive but is puppeting his body. Zato's body is still decaying tho so eddie figures the only way to keep his body alive is to revive zato. Eddie talks to zato in his subconscious and says that zato has to be the one controlling the body but zato doesn't care if he lives or dies as he can't remember anything so nothing matters. He remembers one thing though and that's the name Millia. He doesn't know who Millia is since he's lost all his memories but has the strong desire to protect this person named Millia and to do that he comes back alive with his goal being to protect Millia not remembering the abusive stuff he did but turns out to be a pretty nice guy.

personally I feel like excluding both Axl Low and Taokaka from both the Base Roster AND the DLC is a bit sad, they're both relatively popular mainstays.
Honestly when I was thinking of a Noel counterpart I always thought Jack-O because of the similarities between the murakumo units and the Valentines but Dizzy probably makes more sense lol

Whether it means to make crossover Canon, or just think they need to have a special occasion (like how as of now, both Ragna and Sol have been decommissioned and thus need non-canon reason to fight again). It was said long time ago though, so that needed to be kept in mind.

Personally, I would expand your base roster by 6 characters (3 more characters per side) and your DLC selection by four characters (2 more per side). Guilty Gear: - Millia Rage: I'm not sure how she slipped past the radar, but she should be in there 100%. - Axl Low: Same as above. - Leo Whitefang - Bridget (DLC) - Slayer (DLC) BlazBlue: - Carl Clover - Taokaka - Litchi Faye-Ling - Es (DLC) - Jubei (DLC) All this amounts to a final roster of 42 characters. Not bad, if I do say so myself.
Personally I also think if there was ever a big 2 series crossover. Toakaka should be in the original roster. When I knew nothing about Blazblue she was the only character I knew about and she seemed to be pretty iconic in the past.
In terms of BlazBlue' puppet characters, I'd probably put in Relius over Celica, if only because I'd like to see him and That Man out-schemeing each other in the story

Yeah, this is the crossover that's SO obvious yet they just HAVEN'T done it yet! ArcSys isn't against the idea....but apparently there needed to be a prerequisite to be met, specifically "have Sol Badguy's story be concluded" and luckily SPOILERS guess what happened in Strive's story mode!(definitely not as SAD as Ragna's ending but a satisfying one it still is) So this game MIGHT be in our near future eventually.(still enjoyed the video of course) Also I would really like to see an even more obscure character from GG that's more less known then Testament, Bridget, Zappa or even A.B.A.:Leopaldon from GG Itsuka. Thier design was so unique and weird that I find it a shame that they never went back too it. I'd want em for Strive.

Huh, I was expecting a certain anime fighter...this is close enough. Actually if you remember his Blazblue Cross Tag Battle video, yeah this was a LONG time coming.
Gameplay wise Arakune would be a good fit for Zato=1, not because of the summoning play style, but also the gooey visual style they have in common. Also Taokaka would be a good match for Chipp, since both are quick and mostly airborne characters.
And Testament's alignment did change to good as he's now an anti-hero with his appearance in the Guilty Gear X games including the DS port of Guilty Gear XX Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers seeing him fighting on the side of good is how he atones for the crimes he committed in the OG Guilty Gear with him keeping an eye on Sol's daughter Dizzy as one of the ways he's atoning for his past crimes. So if the version of Testament for this hypothetical GG X BB game is his Guilty Gear X version then he could as part of the storyline despite wanting to live the life of a somewhat pacifistic hermit in the woods he would pick up the scythe and fight on the side of good against the team of Hazama/Terumi, and I-No as in his mind by fighting for the sake of both innocent humans, and innocent gears is part of him earning atonement for all the crimes he committed in the Guilty Gear 1.
These are sutch delightful speculations. Fusing the gameplay to make a 6 button fighter in particular was a great suggestion. Just imagining the BB cast with dust and GG with Drives is a true delight .
This might be a bit of a stretch but I would like to see the interaction between Hazama and Testament. They were both henchman of their series that decided to do their own things once the big bad died/was separated.
I personally would include Slayer and Taokaka. Slayer is just an immensely charming person and, as you said, could fit better as a counterpart to Rachel. Meanwhile with Taokaka... I just like her really, but she'd be a great counterpart for May or Faust considering their wacky natures.
This is an awesome roster. My one character I’d want would be Platinum, since I’m a fan of the magical girl genre, and she was seemingly inspired by one of the shows that got me into the genre (Nanoha). I also think she’d be a good fit for May’s rival, being cutesy girls with giant weapons. Though Makoto’s a great pick as well, so I can’t complain. I really hope ArcSys makes this crossover real at some point. I think I remember hearing they didn’t want to do a GG crossover until they were done with its story? I forget where I heard that, but if that’s the case, we can maybe expect this game soon after that happens, like how BBTag came out shortly after BB’s story finished.
Tbh they seem to be really close to the end of the story now that Strive is out. Without going into details, most of the big story arcs are resolved. It currently ends on a cliffhanger but they already confirmed more to come with the dlc pass and as far as I see it that is probably going to be more of an epilogue to tie up loose ends and maybe set up for a "sequel" of sorts. So we might see this crossover fairly soon, at least I hope so.

Yeah, Axl too. For as much as he mentioned the time travel aspects of Hakumen and I-No, you’d think he’d at least mention the resident time traveller as DLC. Having both Millia and Axl out is weird for sure.

Thinking more on this list, I feel a big flaw in the roster at least for the GG side, is aside from Nago, there is not a single one appearance only character. Like no bedman, or answer, or A.B.A or Bridget or the like. The roster for the GG side feels very safe except for its exclusions like Johnny or Slayer. That's just me tho, it didnt feel like there was any wild card picks

Always find these Build A Roster videos really interesting. Most of them are for games I don't even play or know much about it - I've never even touched BlazBlue or Guilty Gear - but it's still neat to see all the considerations you give to these rosters and how you balance them and choose which characters get in.
i feel that Hazama and Happy Chaos would be a better fit than I-no since HC and Hazama have pulled at the strings of the story since the beginning. also the both have a laid back style.
Zappa I feel is the Guilty Gear character who'd benefit most from the Drive button. Having his ghosts be random but controllably random would be the ideal way to fully balance out that little mechanic of his. Also just seeing his animations in 2.5D would be an absolute treat.
Great video, with the one caveat that Chipp is probably either the second or third best character in Strive right now, even with the least health in the game.

With these being two ASW titles, I also want the commentators to start cat fights in the background when characters from different games fight, and whoever wins the round has their exasperated announcer announce the next round only to devolve into something akin to her hair getting pulled and them getting pulled off the mic. character who wins the fight has their announcer acting outrageously off cuff. Maybe has her trailing off like "Yeah, that's WTF i thought!"
I already have a perfect idea for the interaction Justice is about to face all the heros in a epic finally battle but susano'oh to jump in and start beating down every one, ranga and sol try to take both down at once. Susano'oh notices justice, and grabs him and using the energy/magic of two worlds colliding to install him self into justice's systems (not exactly sure how it works I'm not a robot expert) and finally gets the new body he's been craving.
I think that there's a pretty clear way for Sol's drive move to be animated, him loosening his headband. That's how he used to go into Dragon Install in the older games. So every time he does the taunt, he loosens the headband slightly more and more which would very slightly buff all of his stats, until the final charge where he just rips the headband off entirely going into his full Dragon Install form in OVT/Xrd providing him with insane amounts of buffs showcasing how ridiculously powerful full Dragon Install Sol is.
This is a pretty cool roster. If I could add in any new characters I would add Millia and Venom on the GG side and I’d add Taokaka and Jubei on the BB side
I think I called like 75% of the characters. And if I gave myself more time to think about your reasoning before the reveal, I would have easily got close to full 100%. An amazing video We got Asuka a year later in Strive, so now it only makes sense for Ragna to literally come out of a portal made by Slayer and Rachel combining their powers and make this video feel like it aged better as it already is. I would kill for BBxGG with combined mechanics and 1v1, not tag teams, hoping for this to come at some point
Just wanted to help with rival stuff, so here's some thoughts on the stuff you got stumped on. Testament vs nu 13: the former puppet of Justice vs. The puppet of hazama. Faust vs. Nine: a doctor who went insane but regained his sanity vs. The mage genius who was corrupted by madness and not willing to comeback to the light. Celica vs zato : the key to the future vs the key to resurrection. Or the person brought back to save the world vs the person resurrected only to test the possibility and was meant to die and didn't and is able to redeem himself. Hakumen vs ram: the hero of lore who lost it all vs the doll who gained emotion and therefore got everything to live her life as she wants to. Or what you said about the boundary and the backyard. Baiken vs azreal: the beastly woman with bloodlust toward one individual (that man) vs the beastly man with bloodlust toward all who are deemed strong by him. Dlc section Hibiki vs jam: the right hand man to an official who dutifully serves vs. The woman who works for only herself and her restaurant. Bullet vs Giovanna: the mercenary who hates beastkin vs the secret service agent shamin who channels a dog. Appreciate your work as always, thorgi, and have a great day, everybody.
Really disappointed that your list doesn't have Axl in the initial roster. In terms of story, Axl's entire schtick since the first game is that he's a time traveller. And you said just how important the story would be in this crossover and it would most likely include some timey whimey multi-dimensional bullshit. Axl's just completely perfect for this. Also in terms of gameplay, isn't the GG side of things lacking a traditional zoner? Like Testament is kinda a zoner but he's closer to a trap character than anything. So Axl fits in completely. Moreover his drive move could be him charging up for a time stop like in strive. Personally I'd switch out Baiken for Axl since we already have enough sword characters in the game and having Big Booba Lady be apart of the DLC would sell way better (as proven in Rev2 and now in Strive). I'd also switch I-no for Happy Chaos since he fits the villain role better. But since he isn't revealed as a playable character yet when this came out so I'm not complaining.
For what characters I'd put on each side, I was thinking 24 for the base game but I'll bump it up to 26 for the sake of your idea of a starting roaster size. I'm also more for varying the roaster a bit more rather than trying to match up every character to another perfectly. There is 100% interaction material between each character pairing so I'm not concerned about that. I'm actually more concerned with properly representing various parts of the series history. So for the the Blazblue side I would include: Ragna, Jin, Noel, Rachel, Taokaka, Tager, Bang, Hakumen, Nu-13, Hazama, Relius, Kokonoe, and Naoto. All of them are them through Nu are all core characters, Hazama is the more iconic villain, Relius is a puppet character and villain as well as one of the most powerful characters lore-wise. Kokonoe and Naoto are a good variety for play styles as well as being good representation for the newer entries in the franchise. On the Guilty Gear Side I would include: Sol, Ky, May, Potemkin, Millia, Faust, Dizzy, Zato, Slayer, Ramlethal, Leo, I-No, and Nagoriyuki. Again, everyone is a serious core character through to Zato, while Slayer is THE powerhouse of an ArcSys character that everyone thinks of when they think of memes (Aside from Faust). Ram and Nago are both good representation of the newer games much like Koko and Naoto as well as being insanely popular. I-No is the playable villain you envision much like Hazama when it comes to GG, and Leo and just the kind of character that NEEDS to be included in the game in some way shape or form and I think from a developer point of view it makes more sense to include him as a base game character rather than DLC. Where I'm going to differ with you format and opinions the most is the DLC though. I agree that there definitely would be some, but I'm thinking more than less. So instead of there being 6 for three characters from each series, I'm going to go with 10 for 5 from each and pretend that they'd drop five waves with two characters coming per-wave, mostly because that's how they did it with BBTAG. So my picks for the Blazblue DLC would be: Tsubaki (or Izayoi), Nine, Arakune, Jubei, and Terumi. As much as I do like Makoto, I don't think she should be superseding Tsubaki who is WAY more important to the plot of Blazblue and comes with two incredibly unique play styles that you could choose for her so Makoto would be a second wave DLC or beyond for me. I agree that Nine is a fan favorite and that her playstyle is super cool which is specifically why I think it would be better to have her as DLC. There's a ton of good picks in the base roster with some "Whoa" picks as well, so keeping Nine for DLC would 100% get people interested. Arakune and Litchi are the two major OGs not represented still and I think Arakune is a more interesting pick between the two in both design and play-style. Jubei and Terumi are the two powerhouses of the series and I think having them both be playable makes sense, especially having Terumi as another villain (I do think Susaano is a good pick as well). My picks for Guilty Gear DLC would be: Baiken, Johnny, Jack-O, Raven, and Brigid. Baiken and Johnny as you said are REALLY popular, which is why both of them are 100% going to be DLC in Strive which is why it also makes the most sense to have them as DLC here as well. I think Jack-O is the character that would fit Blazblue the best of any GG character, her whole gimmick is basically a Drive in the first place and she's super popular. I want another villain for GG as well and I honestly think Raven is the best pick, I like his style and character and I see them using a more recent character than someone niche like Testament or Justice who I wouldn't imagine them bringing back to the series in a crossover. Brigid is my final pick because just like Baiken and Johnny he's an insanely popular pick with a fun style that would differ just enough from the rest of the cast. If I were to pick two additional characters that are REALLY close to being picked by me it would be Izanami and either Elphelt or Giovanna. It's all just my thoughts though. I'm here still hoping for more BBTAG DLC or P5A so who knows what we'll get any more.
Great video as always. Definitely a badass cast that makes a lot of sense. The biggest problem I have with what you said is that you claimed we couldn't have both roman cancels and overdrive. Get out of here. Those are some of the coolest mechanics in fg history and Blazblue has rapid cancels already, so it's not a stretch to have them both. What if you want to eliminate one mechanic just remove the dust button. We can do without it. I think your cast is completely fair, but I would personally do a few changes. 1. I want to shoutout Bedman for being my favourite GG character and the character that got me into fgs, but I can't justify including him. Testament is absolutely the more iconic GG setup character. And Ram is the character that should represent Xrd. 2. Relius instead of Celica. I think his personallity would make for fun interaction and it would be great to see his Astral Finish on the GG cast. Specially on I-no. 3. Litchi instead of Hakumen. Hakumen is really cool, but he is technically another character that's already in the roster and Litchi is just as iconic. Plus, your roster has a lot of playstyle variety, but it could use a stance character and she is the perfect fit. 4. Slayer instead of Nagoriyuki. Nago is a badass character and you're right about how Strive should be represented with his inclusion. But I still qould prefer Slayer. He is very iconic and I think he would have more interesting interactions.

It's been a year since this vid was made and already we have a large roster of GGST characters (and XrdRev2 characters to boot). Additions I would make: Arakune Taokaka Valkenhayn R. Hellsing Litchi Faye Ling Millia Rage Bedman (Xrd version) Kum Haehyun A.B.A.
Season 3 DLC characters I would think this would be the final season of DLC for this game so I say they should double the number of characters to 12, six for BlazBlue and six for Guilty Gear. Here’s who I would include: BlazBlue characters: Taokaka Litchi Faye Ling Arakune Platinum the Trinity Valkenhayn R. Hellsing Jubei Guilty Gear characters: Axl Low Millia Rage Anji Mito Brigdet Robo-Ky Slayer That’s who I would choose, anyway.
Axl Low and Kagura Mutsuki are mi favorites on each side and we get none of either, not even Leo Whitefang who is basically the same as Kagura, but somehow Justice *You'll do nothing but block for the entire game, and then when you get in I'll Force break a dash and be away again* is more fun and iconic than Axl Leo or Kagura, it was a bit sad to me
The more sensible option: light, medium, heavy, drive, dust, Roman cancel. For all characters. Having l,m,h,k and drive wouldn’t make much sense. L,M,H,Drive,dust is a perfect combination of both games since bb already has a ghetto rc and the guilty gear characters can gain some of their old flare back with drive, without having too many buttons and mechanics needlessly jammed into a game because “we need every thing from both games”
Great video, Thorgi. I’m really digging this series. I think a good idea for a Build a Roster episode you could have fun with would be for a Digimon fighting game. Could work as a 3v3 or 1 on 1. Only rules I could think to apply is to pick humanoid Digimon only, and ignore the power levels of various Digimon. Meaning we could have a match between Angemon (Champion level), Weregururumon (Ultimate level) and Wargreymon (Mega level). And there’s a lot of awesome looking Digimon to pick from so you’d have ALOT of fun picking fighters.
Guilty Gear and BlazBlue already feel like long lost twins, any sort of cross over would be super easy to balance gameplay and universal mechanics wise

Short version: Millia was zatos girlfriend and abusived by him. She kills him. Eddie wants to bring him to life but zato doesn't care about living. He lost all his memories in dying but remembers Millias name so he comes back to life with strong desire to protect Millia.
Long version: Millia Rage was in abusive relationship with zato so in return for the abuse by him she kills him however eddie (zatos demon inside him) keeps his body alive but is puppeting his body. Zato's body is still decaying tho so eddie figures the only way to keep his body alive is to revive zato. Eddie talks to zato in his subconscious and says that zato has to be the one controlling the body but zato doesn't care if he lives or dies as he can't remember anything so nothing matters. He remembers one thing though and that's the name Millia. He doesn't know who Millia is since he's lost all his memories but has the strong desire to protect this person named Millia and to do that he comes back alive with his goal being to protect Millia not remembering the abusive stuff he did but turns out to be a pretty nice guy.

Yeah, this is the crossover that's SO obvious yet they just HAVEN'T done it yet! ArcSys isn't against the idea....but apparently there needed to be a prerequisite to be met, specifically "have Sol Badguy's story be concluded" and luckily SPOILERS guess what happened in Strive's story mode!(definitely not as SAD as Ragna's ending but a satisfying one it still is) So this game MIGHT be in our near future eventually.(still enjoyed the video of course)

Gameplay wise Arakune would be a good fit for Zato=1, not because of the summoning play style, but also the gooey visual style they have in common.

I’m okay with either Bang or Tao personally. However it’s kinda clear to me that Tao was being cycled out of the BB’s story.

And Testament's alignment did change to good as he's now an anti-hero with his appearance in the Guilty Gear X games including the DS port of Guilty Gear XX Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers seeing him fighting on the side of good is how he atones for the crimes he committed in the OG Guilty Gear with him keeping an eye on Sol's daughter Dizzy as one of the ways he's atoning for his past crimes. So if the version of Testament for this hypothetical GG X BB game is his Guilty Gear X version then he could as part of the storyline despite wanting to live the life of a somewhat pacifistic hermit in the woods he would pick up the scythe and fight on the side of good against the team of Hazama/Terumi, and I-No as in his mind by fighting for the sake of both innocent humans, and innocent gears is part of him earning atonement for all the crimes he committed in the Guilty Gear 1.
Yeah, since the world has accepted gears as apart of their society due to Ky's efforts.
And guess what, he's a playable character now in Strive.

I personally would include Slayer and Taokaka. Slayer is just an immensely charming person and, as you said, could fit better as a counterpart to Rachel. Meanwhile with Taokaka... I just like her really, but she'd be a great counterpart for May or Faust considering their wacky natures.

This is an awesome roster. My one character I’d want would be Platinum, since I’m a fan of the magical girl genre, and she was seemingly inspired by one of the shows that got me into the genre (Nanoha). I also think she’d be a good fit for May’s rival, being cutesy girls with giant weapons. Though Makoto’s a great pick as well, so I can’t complain.
I really hope ArcSys makes this crossover real at some point. I think I remember hearing they didn’t want to do a GG crossover until they were done with its story? I forget where I heard that, but if that’s the case, we can maybe expect this game soon after that happens, like how BBTag came out shortly after BB’s story finished.
Tbh they seem to be really close to the end of the story now that Strive is out. Without going into details, most of the big story arcs are resolved. It currently ends on a cliffhanger but they already confirmed more to come with the dlc pass and as far as I see it that is probably going to be more of an epilogue to tie up loose ends and maybe set up for a "sequel" of sorts.
So we might see this crossover fairly soon, at least I hope so.

I was just thinking earlier today what the next episode of this series would be.
In the future, how about a roster for a Nintendo vs Sega fighting game? I think it is fairly likely since Nintendo and Sega have a good relationship with each other.
I just want a mario fighting game specifically, since that's a genera mario specifically and individually hasn't dabbled with yet, and I just wanna see the wide cast of characters do some awesome fighting stuff.
Actually, I know it's not a fighting game, but "build the roster" for mario kart 9 would be just a good of an idea.

Yeah that is very weird. Especially since they add Zato into the roster, but not Millia. She wasn’t even mentioned in the DLC section of the video. Either they didn’t think about her that much or just straight up forgot.
Yeah, Axl too. For as much as he mentioned the time travel aspects of Hakumen and I-No, you’d think he’d at least mention the resident time traveller as DLC. Having both Millia and Axl out is weird for sure.

Thinking more on this list, I feel a big flaw in the roster at least for the GG side, is aside from Nago, there is not a single one appearance only character. Like no bedman, or answer, or A.B.A or Bridget or the like. The roster for the GG side feels very safe except for its exclusions like Johnny or Slayer. That's just me tho, it didnt feel like there was any wild card picks

Always find these Build A Roster videos really interesting. Most of them are for games I don't even play or know much about it - I've never even touched BlazBlue or Guilty Gear - but it's still neat to see all the considerations you give to these rosters and how you balance them and choose which characters get in.
i feel that Hazama and Happy Chaos would be a better fit than I-no since HC and Hazama have pulled at the strings of the story since the beginning. also the both have a laid back style.

Zappa I feel is the Guilty Gear character who'd benefit most from the Drive button. Having his ghosts be random but controllably random would be the ideal way to fully balance out that little mechanic of his. Also just seeing his animations in 2.5D would be an absolute treat.

If I may suggest a video idea, I think Arc System Works vs. Capcom would be nice to see, since Sammy vs. Capcom was in development in 2003 before being silently cancelled, and Sammy published the Guilty Gear X and XX games. This time, though, all of ArcSys's IP would be on the table, including Double Dragon, River City and BlazBlue.

With these being two ASW titles, I also want the commentators to start cat fights in the background when characters from different games fight, and whoever wins the round has their exasperated announcer announce the next round only to devolve into something akin to her hair getting pulled and them getting pulled off the mic.

I already have a perfect idea for the interaction
Justice is about to face all the heros in a epic finally battle but susano'oh to jump in and start beating down every one, ranga and sol try to take both down at once. Susano'oh notices justice, and grabs him and using the energy/magic of two worlds colliding to install him self into justice's systems (not exactly sure how it works I'm not a robot expert) and finally gets the new body he's been craving.
I think that there's a pretty clear way for Sol's drive move to be animated, him loosening his headband. That's how he used to go into Dragon Install in the older games. So every time he does the taunt, he loosens the headband slightly more and more which would very slightly buff all of his stats, until the final charge where he just rips the headband off entirely going into his full Dragon Install form in OVT/Xrd providing him with insane amounts of buffs showcasing how ridiculously powerful full Dragon Install Sol is.
This is a pretty cool roster. If I could add in any new characters I would add Millia and Venom on the GG side and I’d add Taokaka and Jubei on the BB side

We got Asuka a year later in Strive, so now it only makes sense for Ragna to literally come out of a portal made by Slayer and Rachel combining their powers and make this video feel like it aged better as it already is. I would kill for BBxGG with combined mechanics and 1v1, not tag teams, hoping for this to come at some point
Just wanted to help with rival stuff, so here's some thoughts on the stuff you got stumped on.
Testament vs nu 13: the former puppet of Justice vs. The puppet of hazama.
Faust vs. Nine: a doctor who went insane but regained his sanity vs. The mage genius who was corrupted by madness and not willing to comeback to the light.
Celica vs zato : the key to the future vs the key to resurrection. Or the person brought back to save the world vs the person resurrected only to test the possibility and was meant to die and didn't and is able to redeem himself.
Hakumen vs ram: the hero of lore who lost it all vs the doll who gained emotion and therefore got everything to live her life as she wants to. Or what you said about the boundary and the backyard.
Baiken vs azreal: the beastly woman with bloodlust toward one individual (that man) vs the beastly man with bloodlust toward all who are deemed strong by him.
Dlc section
Hibiki vs jam: the right hand man to an official who dutifully serves vs. The woman who works for only herself and her restaurant.
Bullet vs Giovanna: the mercenary who hates beastkin vs the secret service agent shamin who channels a dog.

Really disappointed that your list doesn't have Axl in the initial roster. In terms of story, Axl's entire schtick since the first game is that he's a time traveller. And you said just how important the story would be in this crossover and it would most likely include some timey whimey multi-dimensional bullshit. Axl's just completely perfect for this.
Also in terms of gameplay, isn't the GG side of things lacking a traditional zoner? Like Testament is kinda a zoner but he's closer to a trap character than anything. So Axl fits in completely. Moreover his drive move could be him charging up for a time stop like in strive.
Personally I'd switch out Baiken for Axl since we already have enough sword characters in the game and having Big Booba Lady be apart of the DLC would sell way better (as proven in Rev2 and now in Strive).
I'd also switch I-no for Happy Chaos since he fits the villain role better. But since he isn't revealed as a playable character yet when this came out so I'm not complaining.
For what characters I'd put on each side, I was thinking 24 for the base game but I'll bump it up to 26 for the sake of your idea of a starting roaster size. I'm also more for varying the roaster a bit more rather than trying to match up every character to another perfectly. There is 100% interaction material between each character pairing so I'm not concerned about that. I'm actually more concerned with properly representing various parts of the series history. So for the the Blazblue side I would include: Ragna, Jin, Noel, Rachel, Taokaka, Tager, Bang, Hakumen, Nu-13, Hazama, Relius, Kokonoe, and Naoto.
All of them are them through Nu are all core characters, Hazama is the more iconic villain, Relius is a puppet character and villain as well as one of the most powerful characters lore-wise. Kokonoe and Naoto are a good variety for play styles as well as being good representation for the newer entries in the franchise.
On the Guilty Gear Side I would include: Sol, Ky, May, Potemkin, Millia, Faust, Dizzy, Zato, Slayer, Ramlethal, Leo, I-No, and Nagoriyuki.
Again, everyone is a serious core character through to Zato, while Slayer is THE powerhouse of an ArcSys character that everyone thinks of when they think of memes (Aside from Faust). Ram and Nago are both good representation of the newer games much like Koko and Naoto as well as being insanely popular. I-No is the playable villain you envision much like Hazama when it comes to GG, and Leo and just the kind of character that NEEDS to be included in the game in some way shape or form and I think from a developer point of view it makes more sense to include him as a base game character rather than DLC.
Where I'm going to differ with you format and opinions the most is the DLC though. I agree that there definitely would be some, but I'm thinking more than less. So instead of there being 6 for three characters from each series, I'm going to go with 10 for 5 from each and pretend that they'd drop five waves with two characters coming per-wave, mostly because that's how they did it with BBTAG.
So my picks for the Blazblue DLC would be: Tsubaki (or Izayoi), Nine, Arakune, Jubei, and Terumi.
As much as I do like Makoto, I don't think she should be superseding Tsubaki who is WAY more important to the plot of Blazblue and comes with two incredibly unique play styles that you could choose for her so Makoto would be a second wave DLC or beyond for me. I agree that Nine is a fan favorite and that her playstyle is super cool which is specifically why I think it would be better to have her as DLC. There's a ton of good picks in the base roster with some "Whoa" picks as well, so keeping Nine for DLC would 100% get people interested. Arakune and Litchi are the two major OGs not represented still and I think Arakune is a more interesting pick between the two in both design and play-style. Jubei and Terumi are the two powerhouses of the series and I think having them both be playable makes sense, especially having Terumi as another villain (I do think Susaano is a good pick as well).
My picks for Guilty Gear DLC would be: Baiken, Johnny, Jack-O, Raven, and Brigid.
Baiken and Johnny as you said are REALLY popular, which is why both of them are 100% going to be DLC in Strive which is why it also makes the most sense to have them as DLC here as well. I think Jack-O is the character that would fit Blazblue the best of any GG character, her whole gimmick is basically a Drive in the first place and she's super popular. I want another villain for GG as well and I honestly think Raven is the best pick, I like his style and character and I see them using a more recent character than someone niche like Testament or Justice who I wouldn't imagine them bringing back to the series in a crossover. Brigid is my final pick because just like Baiken and Johnny he's an insanely popular pick with a fun style that would differ just enough from the rest of the cast.
If I were to pick two additional characters that are REALLY close to being picked by me it would be Izanami and either Elphelt or Giovanna.
It's all just my thoughts though. I'm here still hoping for more BBTAG DLC or P5A so who knows what we'll get any more.

The biggest problem I have with what you said is that you claimed we couldn't have both roman cancels and overdrive. Get out of here. Those are some of the coolest mechanics in fg history and Blazblue has rapid cancels already, so it's not a stretch to have them both. What if you want to eliminate one mechanic just remove the dust button. We can do without it.
I think your cast is completely fair, but I would personally do a few changes.
1. I want to shoutout Bedman for being my favourite GG character and the character that got me into fgs, but I can't justify including him. Testament is absolutely the more iconic GG setup character. And Ram is the character that should represent Xrd.
2. Relius instead of Celica. I think his personallity would make for fun interaction and it would be great to see his Astral Finish on the GG cast. Specially on I-no.
3. Litchi instead of Hakumen. Hakumen is really cool, but he is technically another character that's already in the roster and Litchi is just as iconic. Plus, your roster has a lot of playstyle variety, but it could use a stance character and she is the perfect fit.
4. Slayer instead of Nagoriyuki. Nago is a badass character and you're right about how Strive should be represented with his inclusion. But I still qould prefer Slayer. He is very iconic and I think he would have more interesting interactions.

Surprised they haven't tried this yet. Maybe now that both original eras of the stories of both series are completed, they might try.
The more sensible option: light, medium, heavy, drive, dust, Roman cancel. For all characters. Having l,m,h,k and drive wouldn’t make much sense. L,M,H,Drive,dust is a perfect combination of both games since bb already has a ghetto rc and the guilty gear characters can gain some of their old flare back with drive, without having too many buttons and mechanics needlessly jammed into a game because “we need every thing from both games”

Great video, Thorgi. I’m really digging this series. I think a good idea for a Build a Roster episode you could have fun with would be for a Digimon fighting game. Could work as a 3v3 or 1 on 1. Only rules I could think to apply is to pick humanoid Digimon only, and ignore the power levels of various Digimon. Meaning we could have a match between Angemon (Champion level), Weregururumon (Ultimate level) and Wargreymon (Mega level). And there’s a lot of awesome looking Digimon to pick from so you’d have ALOT of fun picking fighters.

Guilty Gear and BlazBlue already feel like long lost twins, any sort of cross over would be super easy to balance gameplay and universal mechanics wise
