In Blade Runner 2049 when Agent K is shot down at the San Diego garbage dump, the garbage haulers look like the same model that was seen in Soldier.
dudddde
Soldier is such an underrated movie.
Ford was a replicant.
soldier was dope
Yeah, I thought it was an underrated movie.
supasly75 :
Yeah , I love it !!!
Excellent movie
The trash dumping ships in Soldier, that actually dumped Todd are seen in the New Blade Runner 2049
I don't see it a sequel I just believe that takes place in the same universe
Yeah sequel is not really the right word.
A side-quel?
It's an Easter-egg, calm down. Indiana Jones movie had that one hieroglyph that was C-3PO & R2-D2 but it's not a squeal.
ScaryMason
yes very true.
Ouch, my childhood hurts.
Sandra: But one soldier, against seventeen. What are you going to do?
Todd: I'm going to kill them all, Sir. - Todd is a badass mofo
Daimon X Every time I hear that part, I expect to hear the guitar riff from More Human Than Human. 😀
how come he says sir, why not ma'am?
it's supposed to be a sad line, not badass
Todd and his peers aren't genetically modified just trained since birth. The new soldiers are genetically modified hence the point of him winning in the end proving experience trumps talent.
Lapis Lazuli 99 nope
It's been quite awhile but that's what i remember too.
Lapis Lazuli 99 Fuckin right bro!!! 👍
Yep, that's accurate. I saw this way back.
Lapis Lazuli 99 if it ain't broke...don't fix it.
+Nocturnal Recluse
Dude... Trump is a word. Not just a name. Please go away with your political views. Its tiresome enough to listen to everywhere else on the internet.
NOT Sequel. The writer himself called it a "sidequel" or side story
Could also call all 3 bladerunners aliens prequels🤣
Under "service record" his commendations are the "Cash medal of bravery", "Plissken patch", O'neil ring award", "Maccready cross", "CPT. Ron trophy", McCaffrey fire award", and "Dexter Riley award". All references to the name of some of his most memorable characters.
Why no pictures? You talk about same weapons, spinners in the background, but the video lacks of images for a direct comparison.
Holy piss, Todd defeated an entire contingent of REPLICANTS???
You might want to pronounce the Tannhauser Gate and the Shoulders of Orion the way they were pronounced in the movie. As it is, I could barely understand what the hell you were talking about.
John Crafton Tahassa gabe
That's how you know this is just a narrator not a fan. When you can't even pronounced Orion correctly. As in, Orion's belt. As in, Orion pictures. Not OR-REE-On.
@@jliuatl Seriously, how do you mess that up?
"Soldier" is misspelled as "Solider" in both your title and description - just a heads up. Pretty cool under-the-radar sci-fi and connection though. :)
Lol true!
There is no pulse riffle or smart gun in Soldier. Do you have a clip?
its on todds info and combat experience display listed as "proficient with the following weapons"
He also mispronounced both TANHAUSER & Orion. He is not a true Blade Runner fan, doubt he's even seen it once.
I really liked Soldier, to find out its connected to Blade Runner and maybe to Alien is more awesome.
loved solider back in the day
Never knew existed!!? Soldier is one of my all-time favorite movies, my Father, may he rest in peace, also loved this movie, he could relate being a soldier and a combat Vet himself in Vietnam, he loved the aspect of the old dog going up against the new guns, very underrated movie it will always hold a special place in my heart because it was one of my Dad's favorite newer movies at the time... and Kurt Russell is badass.
BTW Todd wasn't Genetically Enhanced, the new soldiers were, he was just trained from birth to be a hardcore bad mother Fuckin combat Vet.
Ford was a replicant.
Todd's service record also lists a "Nibian Moon Campaign" and an "Antares Maelstrom War" beneath it. These are Wrath of Khan references.
Ok i just watched the so called video of the flashbacks of todd fighting and training...and none of those weapons are no where close to being any weapons from aliens...
Paul Anderson's two movies after Mortal Kombat (1995) was also very high and well doned..I dont know why Event Horizon (1997) and Soldier (1998), didn't succeed in box-office, but was critically good for me.
ENOUGH with the "You Never Knew Existed" nonsense! I knew all about this movie. There needs to be a "Things People Who Make 'Things You Never Knew Existed' Videos Never Knew We Knew Existed" video.
Highly underrated comment
To get views and we are the consumer
Instead it should have been "I've Seen Things You People Wouldn't Believe..."
Todd was not modified, but was selected at birth because he cried, or should I say wailed in his bassinet in the nursery, showing "spirit", or an "elevated A.Q", unlike the docile child next to him. That was made pretty clear at the beginning of the film for whatever my simplistic observation might be worth. Thanks btw for the BladeRunner tie in, it never occured to me. Be well.
O ri on not Ori on
Po tate toe - po ta toe
One of the weapons Todd has training with is listed as the BFG-9000. Is doom also a part of this shared universe?
No way? That is hilarious! Somebody had WAY too much fun writing this script.
Also the list of battles references several locations mentioned by Khan in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan so apparently that is also part of the same universe.
Khan was quoting Moby Dick not any battles.
Sargonarhes
So what you're saying is that in fiction there is a lot of tips of the hat and quotes that in no way indicate a shared universe?
the director paul ws anderson adeed the easter eggs as hes a big science fiction fan.
To make the two movies work together plot-wise, you have to ignore the year given in "Soldier" - 2032, which is 13 years after "Blade Runner" - and assume that it's not a sequel... it's a prequel. The genetically-modified 'test-tube baby' soldiers that replace Todd and his group (i.e. Jason Scott Lee) are the predecessors of replicants. In Todd's military record you'll see the Battle of Tannhauser Gate listed, but there's no reason there couldn't be a First Battle of Tannhauser gate and then a second battle later within Roy Batty's four-year life span.
Tyrell corp and Weyland Yutani working together wouldnt be a bad idea😉
Soldier is a great little movie. And it's an interesting idea that Jason Scott Lee and his team are replicants.
Now you're just talking crazy.
"Solider", really?
Isn't there a function to change titles, so that you can fix these typos.
Title typos are the worst IMHO.
The mispronunciation of "Tannhauser" & "Orion" were equally hard on my ears, but alas there is no easy fix for that :-/
Least put an annotation, warn us beforehand! haha
+ArgosySpecOps It's almost as if he hasn't heard Roy Batty's monologue.
I can still hear Roy reciting those lines. What an image!
I always felt that the movie Soldier was very loosely based on an episode of the name from the series The Outer Limits. The major concepts that really carried over were the difficulties of a soldier, trained from birth, integrating into a peaceful society and his inability to communicate or even think outside that context. Both end up with the protagonist choosing to overcome his programming to take potentially self sacrificial action in favor of an adopted family that showed him the only affection he had ever experienced. Whether these themes were intentionally borrowed I don't know, but I would encourage anyone who is a fan of the movie to see the show. That, and the obvious moral themes borrowed from Frankenstein give the movie a classical feel that goes well beyond its production values.
I know that episode mainly because Harlan Ellison who wrote it sued Orion and James Cameron. Cameron had to settle because the studio wasn't going to back him if he went to court and he could afford to take on Ellison alone.
I think that's why in the opening credits in the movie it actually says "based on the story soldier by Harlan Ellison" or something to that affect.
So Gary Busey was in Predator 2. Died but is in Soldier later on.
Great movie. I love how massive the junk planet is: an aircraft carrier sticking out of a junk pile, like a piece of re-bar.
Solider was based on a book by another Author Harlan Ellison that was also used in a original Outer Limits episode . The film we seen Russell in floated around for years before being made into the film we saw and was changed a lot . The only relation with Blade runner is both are set in a post apocalyptic world .
I don't think the soldiers Todd beats in the movie are Replicant 6 models but an earlier generation, possibly the Gen 1 series. This would explain why Todd (an actual human) is replaced to begin with originally.
Soldier was a Blade Runner sequel? Ironically, I've never seen Blade Runner but watched Soldier as a kid... SIR!
I always thought it was a spin-off or sequel reboot remake to universal soldier
I saw this movie as a kid and so did I 🤣🤣
Atari is making a new gaming console. Notice the Atari Billboard in Bladerunner 2 trailer.
Saw Soldier long ago, loved it and have been a Blade Runner fan from the beginning but never knew the connection. Thanks, very cool!
I loved Solider and always wondered why it was never acknowledged by the rest of the Blade Runner/Alien world
Ford was a replicant.
i'm surprised no ones mentioned theres a wrecked police spinner car in the wreckage of the garbage planet todd is stranded on.
So, Predator, Alien, Blade Runner and Soldier are all in the same universe???
Another one I think they should also include into the fold of this shared universe is the 1981 Sci-Fi movie, Outland staring the late Sir Sean Connery.
What kind of soldier are you? A RepliCAN or a RepliCAN'T?
Just kidding. Okay, I'm skeptical about Caine 607 and his fellow soldiers being Replicants. They weren't as strong as a Replicant, and certainly nowhere near as smart, as evidenced by their demise at the hands of the single human soldier Todd 3465. Remember what Gary Busey's character Church said to Rubrick in regards to the updated soldiers being sloppy: "Maybe you should have made them smart instead of fast." I'm guessing they were just products of standard human genetic manipulation, probably done at a discounted price for all the corners that were cut.
Maybe the military went for a cheaper version of the replicant that was disposable. It makes sense when you think that intelligent replicants being taught military tactics and given access to powerful weapons is a good way to get trained killers turning on you - look at the replicants in Bladerunner.
I did, and what I saw were Nexus 6 models with a built-in four-year lifespan to prevent overrunning of their human creators. It would make more sense for the military to just buy a few dozen of these at a reduced price, which were already top-of-the-line in 2019, than making cheapjack Replicants that could be wiped out by one experienced human soldier. The whole idea of Replicants is they can do the job better than humans. These things were grown from materials that, while appearing biologically similar to a human's, were far more durable, enabling them to withstand the harsh environments in which they were forced to work. The higher intelligence was for problem solving. Strength and smarts, not simply strength and aggression as Colonel Mekum believed, are two advantageous things for a soldier to have in the field. Rick Deckard had all he could do to take out four of them on Earth, and he was supposedly the best Blade Runner of his time. And even then, he only succeeded in retiring two of them by himself. Todd 3465 eliminated an entire regiment of the upgraded soldiers. So, when you suggest they were poorly made Replicants, I say no, just cloned humans. If you're going to make something physically and intellectually inferior for the sake of cost, stick with an ordinary human being.
I think you mean platoon. A regiment is more than 1000 men. This character may be a tough guy but ...
Smoking Stone Platoon is synonymous with regiment, guy.
Elfrunner- Hate to be "that guy" but Platoon and Regiment are not synonymous.
In most English-speaking countries a platoon is typically a body of around 25 fighting men led by a lieutenant. Several platoons makes a company. Several companies make a regiment, usually led by a Lt Colonel.
loved the movie all 83 times I've watched it (literally 83 times). never even considered a link to blade runner. really don't see it as being a sequel.
I remember before this movie was released that there was a magazine article where the writer says that he has meant this to be connected to the Blade Runner universe. A "side-quel". I have always seen this movie from that perspective. Another comparison they made was between Soldier and The Road Warrior (not as in the same universe, but in style).
It would be cool if another Bladerunner movie was made and officially connected "The soldier" to the franchise..
Actually I owned it and loved this movie.
he didn't dive too deep for this. seems a Lil half arsed too me
The chick in this movie is Wonder Woman's mom, Hippolyta.
Doesn't one of the ships or a similar ship of the same class from Event Horizon also make an appearance on the junkyard planet somewhere in the rubble?
Most fans knew this for years
Really? I always thought they'd just ripped off a Rogue Trooper story ;)
i remember discovering this movie at my video store (VHS), immediately rented it and liked it alot.
Ford was a replicant.
Blade Runner is an essence within it's own Existence. Nothing more. Soldier is the the same way. However, the thought of a sequel is erroneous; the film displayed "Influences" of Blade Runner. Therefore, their not in a conjuctional Universe of the same.
The Blade Runner Sequel YOU Never Knew Existed? Actually I did know it existed so the title of your video is wrong. Can you do the right thing and change it please?
The old and new soldiers in that movie maybe fantastic... but... no one is better than Pvt. William "Ultimate Badass" HUDSON!
soldier was one of my favorite films... yep, same writter/producer... I've known that it exsisted in the same universe for a while now.
UP THE CHAIN!
Love Solider!
Good information, but you should have more pictures that match the subject you are talking about. Showing random images takes away from the video.
I don't know where this information is coming from, but there was ZERO talk of a sequel until ALCON Entertainment optioned the rights in 2011-ish. The writer might have thrown some Blade Runner refs into Soldier for fun, but this was NEVER thought of as a sequel. In fact, the FIRST thought was to make the sequel a PREQUEL, focusing on what leads to the Replicant uprising that Roy Batty escapes from with the other replicants (Pris, Leon, Zhora, etc.). THAT is information straight from the horse's mouth.
1:39 There are STAR TREK II references also in the lower right:
"In 2285, during his mission of vengeance against James T. Kirk, Khan Noonien Singh swore that he would chase Kirk "'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares maelstrom and 'round perdition's flames" before giving up"
i always thought this movie was part of the blade runner universe (do androids dream of electric sheep) www.imdb.com/title/tt0083557/
Hey, Hybrid Network, try doing some actual research. Soldier is NOT a "sequel" to Blade Runner. David People, its writer calls it a "sidequel" and he would know since he's the "script doctor" for the Blade Runner script. There are some visual allusions in the movie Soldier that recall Blade Runner. Better luck next time.
Sorry, did you watch this film or even Blade Runner? Todd wasn't bioengineered as you stated at the beginning, and Tannhauser Gate is pronounced TEN-HOIS-ER and Orion is pronounced ORE-RYAN. Had to stop the video lol
The voice must be machine generated? Would be crazy for a person to be citing Roy's speech but be completely incapable of pronouncing Orion and Tannhauser.
Sooooo... not actually based on Philip K Dick novel, but definitely a sequel rather than some cheap attempt at associating your low-rent effort with a much more illustrious project ?
Though not a success on release, Blade Runners genius had been long recognised by '98
Production companies just try to save on costs, and people get all kinds of whacky and weird theorys... The information displayed on the movie are only inside jokes. Todd's service record contains tons of other references as well, from Snake Plisken to Stargate. Also, BFG from DOOM is one of the weapons mentioned on Todd's ordnance levels, so are they connected too??? See for yourself. www.imdb.com/title/tt0120157/trivia, www.imfdb.org/wiki/Soldier
OR-REE-YIN? Did you even watch the film? It is ORION. Pronounced "OR-EYE-ON" Unless english is your second language, you have no excuse.
That means we can now debunk speculation around Blade Runner being connected to the movie Alien, because Soldier has NOTHING TO DO WITH ALIEN!
Soldier movie is nice. I knew about it being a Blade Runner thingy. Saw it some months ago (again).
Hello WCA 420 here I am the host of the site (Stoner Hill) honestly the concept of Alien, Blade Runner, & Soldier existing in the same universe I can get behind that story love it badass!!!! 🤘😝
shoulder of OR-EE -ON? not quite. It's referencing the constellation ...OR-EYE-ON... have a listen to the speech to which you refer.
Very nice your explanation, but you missed showing the evidence (images from the spinner, the pulse rifle, the smart gun, etc.)
Im not trying to be a downer but in the training sequence of soldier, there was an m60 Machine gun mounted on the Humvee during the running scene, the smart gun from aliens was based on the german mg42 Machine gun which does not mean there was a smart gun in Soldier. Second off Todd uses a m4a1 assault rifle in the ending training sequence, the M4a1 is a modern assault rifle used today in the United States Military. The M41A pulse rifle from aliens was built off of the Thompson sub machine gun. This to me means that Aliens has no connection to soldier on that basis.
Nope, people knew it was in the Blade Runner universe.....they just tried to forget it.
It has aspects from the David People' s first rewrite of fanchers script. I always wondered if the folks from HALO took aspects of this to fit into their narrative.
Aren't they both based on Philip K. Dick stories as well? Obviously Bladerunner was (the original) but I recall hearing that Soldier was loosely based on a PK Dick story too
At the end of "Soldier", as the remaining soldiers leave the destroyed planet, headed for the Triple Moons of Dorsai. The young boy will become the first of generations of mercenaries raised on heavy-gravity planets...
I've seen Soldier so many times! surprised its not that well known
Yeah, a side/sequel. Hate how people call it "The Soldier." It is just "Soldier."
I cannot believe I just found this evidence of the movie Soldier crossing over with the Alien series if you're watching movie Soldier and you are at the 1 minute 38 second Mark right after training and combat when it shows a computer screen of Todd's proficiencies Posite on the left hand side you will see ordinance levels and egg rifle qualification for the uscm smart gun United States colonial Marines this is proof that it's a crossover
In Blade Runner 2049 you see Garbage-Ships releasing the trash through bottom doors and they look quite similar to those in Soldier ^^ who knows!
Soldier was a rather insulting movie that made a parody out of everything being a professional warrior is about. In spite of that I did like Kurt Russell's performance.
Forgive me but Todd was not genetically engineered. He was picked from birth. It was stated during the earlier part of the movie on the part when Col. Niccum is showing his new soldiers who were the one's that were genetically engineered.
Todd was never genetically engineered. the soldiers were selected by birth due to crying babies. babies who were crying all the time. babies biggest sport is crying according to researchs. those babies trained special as you said and had massive combat experience of years.
however the genetically engineered ones were the squad of Caine 607. but no experience.
in the end Todd killed them all by guerrilla tactics ad experience.
main story was hard conditioned people always over come non experienced ones
Check out DEATHMARK Book 1 by Michael Perinuzzi, Great Cyberpunk Novel
thanks for being fun.
have ever noticed that rutger hower has been in every philip k dick based film from a to d quality, except the most vexing and high dollar ones? cause i have.
Connection to Battlestart Galactica too. While the bladerunners chase androids, Luke is killing the emperor in a galaxy far far away.
Todd and his fellow class were not genetically engineered they were chosen from unwanted orphans, that is why at the start the officer was looking in a nursery full of new born baby boys and saying I'll take that one and that one etc. Then it jumps to when they are maybe 7 and they are starting life long spartan like military training. The new batch were genetically modified, we don't know if they age normal or faster like star wars clones. I think the new batch was one step below replicate, rather than modify a human they created a new ones that were genetically grown parts and cybernetics
This is nowhere near what I commented on in the "blade runner and alien shared universe" video a week ago. Two subtle hints with some guns? Wtf? Then you say non-canon once and however a sh*t load of times.
Solider was awesome but the individual of this video is more trying to be like Michael Jackson plastic surgery to the film industry.
Blade runner was cool - soldier ... I didn't like it.
I saw no connection actually. maybe if I watched it again. But I won't do it ...
MISTAKE
Todd is NOT genetically engineered. His rival is.
Everyone knows it exists, but it's not really a sequel, it just has a couple of Easter Eggs and the director boldy claims that it's related.
The tone is so different I hope that it never becomes officially canon. The movie was pretty good but to different in tone, so it would make Blade Runner much less good for me
Slow down there, slick. The new genetically enhanced soldiers were not replacants. They were just bred far more advance with better training and a larger budget.
Seen this movie, didn't know it was a bladerunner movie, but now it makes sense the movie was definitely cyberpunk.
I just bought Soldier at my local pawn shop. Saw it once growing up. I thought the spinner was just an Easter egg.
It means that the superiors soldiers are in fact Wallace's replicants, if we remember the title of one promocional short film for the second blade runner, that is called 2036, the same year when the movie soldier take place in the time line of this universe.
the soldier movie its quite understimated. its a great film and also noticed that its very similar to the HALO spartan thing of supersoldiers.....
For god's sake can someone finally put those super enhanced replicants super soldier's against xenomorphs for some epic action in a movie
looked forward to Soldier so much, saw it advertised at the cinema, but it never made it to the big screen, saw it on telly, very disappointing
