    I have always found it interesting that the 1998 film "Soldier," which is set in the same universe as "Blade Runner," uses the same pulse rifles as seen in "Aliens." Another potential connection between the two franchises.

    I just saw Blade Runner yesterday for the first time since being a kid. I noticed a screen in the police car saying "purge", which was featured before in Alien when Ripley starts the Narcisus to get out. And again in Alien Isolation, when Amanda turns on the reactor purge. And there's origamis all over Sevastopol, hinting at the other cop from Blade Runner who kept making them.

    • @AutomationDnD
      @AutomationDnD 6 лет назад +5

      Yeah ... that "Other Cop"??? Did you know he is Admiral Adama in the newly recreated BSG (BattleStar Galactica)? The actor is Edward James Olmos.... (same guy) I never heard of "Alien Isolation"... I'll look it up.

    I'd like to think so. I was hoping Vickers in Prometheus would be revealed to be an unaware replicant in Covenant just like Rachael but alas. And after hearing what you quoted from Weyland, the way he interacts with Vickers would make more sense.
    If Vickers was an android we could then joke the only reason she ran in a straight line under the Juggernaut was because her code didn't allow her to do otherwise (more David shenanigans).

    yeah i believe it. In alien covenant walter is a newer model to david, david's model was decommissioned because it became too self aware & thought for itself. This mirrors the nexus 6's, 8's and wallace's nexus 9's from blade runner 2049. Old nexus 6 & 8 models that were capable of self determination are being 'retired' while wallace's new nexus 9's which will always obey and are more robotic are being commissioned. Much like walter.

    How does david have eternal life? What is powering him? Even nuclear energy has a limit

    • @CourtneyCoulson
      @CourtneyCoulson 6 лет назад +29

      As we see in the opening of Prometheus David seems to intake energy through a kind of food-like substance. Walter is also seen drinking something in "Meet Walter". I have to wonder what David was running on when he was alone on the Engineer planet, perhaps he had a supply with him. Technically speaking, yes, all things must die or break down eventually, but a robot has a seemingly endless lifespan, immortal, but perhaps not invincible. If one body breaks down, the memory can just be transferred to a new body. We humans cannot say the same.

    • @fredbyoutubing
      @fredbyoutubing 6 лет назад +20

      He said: you will die, I will not. It might imply that he's not actually alive, and you need to live in order to die.

    • @CourtneyCoulson
      @CourtneyCoulson 6 лет назад +7

      Ah but he also says he feels alive, I believe David considers himself a living person. I interpret his comments as meaning "I have a virtually endless lifespan, you will inevitably die", a statement of his synthetic supremacy more than anything.

    • @lawrencejelsma3937
      @lawrencejelsma3937 6 лет назад +9

      Corey Donaldson ... Only Ridley Scott connected! In Alien movies the "droid's" blood liquid is milky white! In Blade Runner the blood, and thus a man-made DNA sequence, is as red as humans! In Alien movies there may be possible "longevity" of Droids just by repairs and surgical means. In Blade Runner the DNA runs its course (4 years by the 1980s movie but may differ in the next "Nexus 8+" models!?

    • @swite989
      @swite989 6 лет назад +18

      Will be funny if in next Alien movie they will reveal that some of the "colonists" are Nexus models set to help engineer future place and die off. Some of them get impregnated with alien and therefore giving it those needed bio-mechanical traits, as Nexus model aren't same flesh and bones we are made of. Especially in the books they are more of androids.
      Checklist:
      Colonization of other worlds - check
      Cross reference of corporations - check
      Futuristic setting - check
      These two movies can and should co-exist in shared universe. Blade runner expends Aliens area of cover, while Alien adds this threat level to the Blade runner, that somewhere out there are otherworldly species. Alien cover colonization aspect and space travel of Blade runner, while Blade runner shows what Earth is like while we are deep in space, why there is a need to colonize other worlds.

    Other elements: in Blade Runner 2049 there is a group of Replicants organizing a possible revolution/war against corporations. While in Alien Resurrection one of the main characters after finding out that Call (Winona Ryder's character) is an android he mentions that she belongs to a generation built after a war/rebellion involving androids (guess if the replicants started a war and then the androids followed them)

    Does everyone forget the entire point of blade runner? The replicants were deemed too human, too likely to rebel, that’s why they were trying to put down the off world rebellion and kill any and all replicants who “malfunctioned” by becoming too self realized and who went rogue. In Aliens and Covenant both Bishop and Walter mention something about models being scaled back because they became too human or hurt people or whatever

    There are several reasons to disbelieve the theory that connects both universes:
    -First reason: Differences between the Synthetic of Weyland and the Nexus of Tyrell. In Blade Runner, the Nexus are biogenetic beings. It is unknown when it began to be manufactured, but the NEXUS 6 possibly was already manufactured between the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016. They can bleed, feel pain, eat, and are capable of emotional responses. Synthetics from Weyland, apparently, do not have emotional responses, they just pretend to have them for better social interaction with humans; they do not bleed either, instead they have that fluid that looks like milk; and for what we notice they do not feel pain (otherwise David would have suffered when the Engineer decapitated him, or when his twin Walter stabbed him and hit him several times); As far as we know, David is the only synthetic model that can have emotional responses, which was corrected when the "Walter Models" began to be manufactured by Weyland-Yutani. Another thing is that in TED 2023 Peter Weyland says that they can already create cybernetic beings that would be indistinguishable from human beings "in a few years"; that contradicts the logic of Blade Runner that tells us that the NEXUS 6 were already manufactured by Tyrell in 2016.
    -Second reason: The quality of the Earth. In Blade Runner, and in its sequel Blade Runner 2049 we see an Earth devastated by the evil uses of the human being, completely mutilated and without any hope. In the films Prometheus and Aliens this is not visible; in the scene of the caves of Ireland in Prometheus (this in 2089) we see a clean and tidy world; and in Aliens, during the scene of the Gateway Station (this in 2179), we see that the Earth is blue and very beautiful. This is because, according to the chronology of the corporation, Weyland stopped global warming with its inventions, in addition to inventing forms of infinite energy that replaced fossil fuels. The devastated Earth does not happen until Alien Resurrection, but this is in 2379, they are almost 380 of difference with the 2019 of Blade Runner.
    -Third reason: Space colonies. In Blade Runner we can see that in 2019 humanity already has space colonies; however, according to the Weyland Corporation, hyperluminal journeys were not invented until 2034, and until that date humanity did not have space colonies. In fact, few know this, but Lieutenant Ellen Ripley's birthplace is a lunar colony; that is, she was born on the Moon in the year 2092. However, in Soldier (which is a spin-off film by Blade Runner published in 1998), which takes place in 2036, humanity already has colonies on different planets and even now They have started wars between these worlds. If both occurred in the same universe, it would be necessary to admit that in less than 2 years humanity could create colonies with millions of inhabitants in so many worlds and then these worlds would initiate a war for the stability of the sector. That would be crazy.
    -Fourth reason: The blackout of 2022. An anime-style short film has been published that narrates an event that happens 3 years after the first Blade Runner and 27 years before the new Blade Runner 2049. In it you can see 2 Nexus 8 replicants, with the help of a human sympathizer, generate an EMP that destroys human records in Los Angeles and cause deaths throughout the city, in revenge for the "pro-human" movements that hunted and killed replicants, such as the Blade Runner police units and the murky masses of maddened and supremacist people. This chaotic event causes the creation and possession of any type of replicating or similar technology, whether on Earth or in the outer colonies, to be prohibited. Considering this, if Alien happened in the same universe, it would be crazy for Weyland to create David between 2024 and 2030, there is no room for it. They could tell me that "I did it illegally", but how could anyone not know? The Blade Runner police are very powerful, and it is impossible that they had not noticed. This clearly shows that Weyland created his synthetics in a world without prohibitions, that is, outside the universe of Blade Runner.

    in this case you need to explain how blade runner ( original only ) and alien ties in with soldier since roy batty references " attack ships burning off the shoulder of orion " and todds war record dictates he was at that battle

    In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (the original short story that Blade runner was based on) it's explained that the reason people are leaving earth is because Thermonuclear war has fucked the planet beyond repair and people are trying to get the hell out of dodge before things go further south

    I like the subtle nods, the big problem though is that aren’t animals extinct in the Bladerunner universe (hence the ‘electric’ sheep), but we clearly have animals in Alien…Jones, the dog or ox in Alien 3 etc.

    While this is all interesting stuff, it seems nothing more but easter eggs, especially considering the fact that while the Predator movies have been established as officially connected to the Alien films and both are owned and produced by 20th Century Fox (and now Disney as well), the Blade Runner movies are not. I've always loved expanding cinematic universes, but thus far Blade Runner is only of easter egg status. Perhaps if someday Blade Runner will be purchased by Fox it might actually become connected to and incorporated into the Alien/Predator franchise.

    I think the fact that it’s mentioned in the captain of the Nostromo’s career history that he worked for the Tyrell Corporation is a very blatant connection to the Blade Runner universe. That, coupled with the memos from Weyland talking about Tyrell.

    I think someone from the studio said that officially they are not connected. In Scotts mind they clearly are so it's up to the viewer how they perceive the franchises.

    Blade Runner 2049 pretty much retconned the entire shared universe thing. Seeing as how the Tyrell Corporation isn't even in existence by 2049, it's Wallace and his company that are creating the replicants by that point in time. Dallas was born in 2075 so already there are inconsistencies.
    The only way to have the two series connected would be to just ignore 2049, the way Prometheus ignored AVP and AVPR

    When K enters Wallace's building there is a figure which resembles an engineer in one of the display cases. Thematically Wallace fits well into the progression of the characters, Shaw wants to find God, Weyland considers himself an equal to God, David refuses to acknowledge God and Wallace believes he is above God.

    There was a Canadian sci-fi TV show called total recall 2070. There they suggested the worlds of total recall and blade runner exist in the same universe, which would make sense because both movies were based on the works of Philip K. Dick.

    In Prometheus, when wetland is giving his hologram presentation to the crew of the Prometheus, a skyline similar to that of Los Angeles in blade runner , can be seen in the background.

    Soldier is part of that universe too. Soldier (Kurt Russel) was the last of the human warriors, and the Kane and his ilk where the start of the replicants for war use. In blade runner it's clear that replicants are used as disposable workers and for battle. Roy Batty is a purely war replicant which is why he fought in space, and was generally bad ass. Androids seem like they are mainly a safety system put in place by future OSHA. Which is why they state in Aliens it's standard procedure to have an Android on board (they are technically stable and follow rules), plus nowhere in the Aliens movies do they ever mention Warrior androids.

    Not only do I believe they are in the same universe, I believe the Kurt Russell film "Soldier' also takes place in this universe. When going through Kurt's "Todd" characters weapon skills and proficiencies near the beginning of the film; An interesting weapon name pops up that any Alien officiando will recognize... The M41A Pulse Rifle.

    Both are direct extensions of Philip K Dick's Valis mythos. I think that Ridley Scott is trying to fulfill the role of the "next prophet" in Dickian theology by integrating his own alien gospel into Dick's existing work.

    Well, in the Blade Runner universe, Japanese, British, and American corporate entities are pretty much merged together in these huge conglomerates. That’s how you got the Company, Weyland-Yutani which was a merger with Weyland Corp purchasing Yutani Corp. Most of the signs, billboards etc are also in both English and Japanese. The same thing is on Sevastopol Station.

    Greetings WCA 420 here the host of the site (Stoner Hill) got to say from what I've seen that Blade Runner most likely Solider are part of the Alien universe would definitely love to count Outland in that to but we all know that they will not do that but to me, I say it would have been an awesome concept if it did.
