Caught amidst a rising crisis, Rocky's Horse Rescue, a non-profit friend of ours, faces an unexpected deluge of over 30 cats displaced from a neighboring farm's demolition. We have enlisted to help TNR/Vaccinate these cats but are desperate for your help.
Life batters all creatures indiscriminately, but some face unexpected challenges with absolutely no means to fight back. This is precisely the situation that 30+ cats find themselves in after the destruction of a neighboring barn they called home.
The barn owners razed the cats’ residences to the ground without a thought for these innocent lives that had been instrumental in maintaining the ecosystem of their premises for years. Now homeless, these kitties desperately sought refuge at Rocky's Horse Rescue, which graciously opened its doors.
Rocky's Horse Rescue had been operating smoothly with two resident barn cats, diligently keeping pests at bay. With the sudden influx of 30 more kitties, their anticipated resource needs have skyrocketed. The sizable group could grow further, reaching a daunting figure of over 75 kittens by June 2nd, resulting in an unprecedented medical bill of approximately $11,400.
Time is of the essence, for failing to sterilize the cat population in time could result in a potential explosion to almost 90-100 cats of multiple litters.
Despite the severe challenges, we’re committed to taking proactive steps to control the situation. We’re accelerating efforts to find foster homes for the kittens and rehome some friendly adults. However, additional vetting services like flea control, de-worming, snap tests, and microchipping are needed for these innocent lives to enter foster care, piling additional costs onto the already towering $11,400 base medical cost.
The cost of cat food and the valuable time volunteers invest in trapping and transporting the cats aren’t even something we’re keeping track of in this tally, but they are nonetheless crucial in this uphill battle. We are overwhelmed, to say the least, but these cats need us now.
