    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

Im paralyzed and in a wheelchair so I couldn't go into the type of mines you go into. I did get to go into the Park city mine adventures in Utah when it was open. My grandfather worked in mines in Utah and Nevada during the depression, so I have a bit of mining curiosity in my genes?

"miners always used gravity...." Reminds me of a story my boss told me. He grew up in a mining family and went to college to be a geologist. Had a test one day in class with a diagram of a hill and ore body. Question was how far down and at what angle would you dig to get down to the ore body. Boss answered the question and then made a note that a Geologist would dig down while a miner would dig under, stope up and let gravity do the work......

I just want to say that you hit the nail directly on the head when you say what the interests of exploring these mines are, it’s about the substantial work and effort that was put into building these mines and also what’s neat is how they build the oar shoots and how the stopes were made and how old time oar carts looked like and what was used to pull them in and out and also the main shaft is a neat feature along with all the equipment used like the air compressors and everything that makes a mine, I’m pretty sure I watched a clip the other day of one of the people you had mentioned in a earlier video about a moth ago, he just recently explored a mine and it had massive massive air compressors tanks and all kinds of cool things and cool oar carts etc, I’d just like to point out gly that I really think it’d bring a lot of interested viewers if you explored class 5 mines since you have the equipment to do so, I just way to say that the first video I watched I took interest in was when you explored that 4500 or 7500 foot inclined shaft, I found that was very very interesting indeed and from that point in I kept watching while I sit and eat my mcdons every night lol, stay safe out they’re! I’m really enjoying the content and I’m always looking forward to seeing your next video, take care I hope you see this.

“Gly”: Hi Kyle, I’m really happy your enjoying the channel! Yes, class 5 mines is where the adventure really begins and I look forward to discovering all the amazing artifacts that haven’t been removing due to inaccessibility. I truly believe that what I’m going to find down in the bottom of these shafts is going to be absolutely incredible.

    • @kyleroy9116

@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces ever since me and a friend explored a little mine nothing serious like you go through it just caught my attention and ever since I’ve found massive interest in it and started searching of a good RUclipsr who blogs the stuff and you actually have the gear to do so with a non static mic or a potato camera lol. Now I understand that ya it’s hard to find good and safe class 5 mines to explore and I totally respect the safety for you and mr. M, to all extent. it is very dangerous not only material falling but all the trapped gasses etc underneath, I really think class 5 mines hold a lot of valuable items that’ll soon be covered up once everything gives away and as each day goes by ones always being destroyed by Mother Nature, and I want to note as well that it was the video where you tried to locate the body’s that were lost in a mine and they had to make a new man way/portal and tried to reach them but couldn’t and you had ended up finding your way underneath the collapse where they’re souls rest, that was effort and that’s what effort along with hope does! I think you done a very good exploration of that mine and those are hard to come by, that was such a nicely built ladder all the way down to the sump and such a nicely built vertical shaft for the time being built, that went so far in the ground Ill go and look and correct my mistake if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure it was a 7500 foot shaft, (blew my mind) I absolutely love seeing stuff like that. it always sets a clear picture of the time frame/era of a miner working hard with a pic axe and how things are done just to earn a buck. These mines are a pure Crystal clear picture of the dedication hard work the amount of hours by all those who worked and they’re definitely one of a kind! I wish I didn’t live so far because I’d really love to tag along on the adventures I’m always learning something new in your videos and I love every minute of it! and just a first person look would be absolutely worth every second of my time!

I was wondering if there was any way You would be able to show us how steep some of the stope inclines were? Sometimes it's hard to tell which way is up so even something like a weighted plumb bob would help a lot 👍
    Keep making amazing videos!

Just what you need, a haulage level that isn't open to the levels above it, without ore chutes or passes, and full of bats. Mr. M says, "Thank you Gly for stress testing the false floor planks for me. At least the cholla spines weren't full blown Teddy Bear Cholla lumps just waiting to latch on. Nice pyrite - now you need a hammer and chisel. All the good samples are buried in the cut and fill piles. I really enjoyed this episode. Thanks for the excellent trip through history and thanks for the great video !!!

“Gly”: Artifacts are technically protected by the antiquities act. It’s something you can Google and research as it’s quite lengthy.

    • @erickneebone3412
      @erickneebone3412 3 года назад +1

      Antiquities Act of 1906
(54 U.S.C. §§ 320301 to 320303) and Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 (16 U.S.C. §§ 470aa - 470mm), Basically first offenders can face up to 1 year in prison and $20,000 in fines; repeat offenders 5 years guest of the federal gov't and $100,000 in fines. Anything 100 years or older is treated as an archaeological resource.
Privately owned land, with written landowner permission you can take items excluding human remains/grave goods (state laws vary and should be consulted).
Public Lands; simple answer is look but don't take anything made by humans (except for plastic bottles; those are definitely not old enough and for some reason are left all over... hmmmm). you can collect fossils (provided they are not in an archaeological context) and mineral specimens.. All those ribbons you see are geologists taking samples. Also; the 1872 mining law (30 U.S.C. §§ 22-42) may mean that some of these mines may have active non-patented claims on file that are current and may have territorial claim holders very close by.
My recommendation for everyone is to respect both the site and other explorers by following the "look but dont touch" and "Leave no trace" of your presence.

One of the jobs that miners do that shows how hard these men work is setting up all the timbers, just that job alone is so impressive. In a lot of the brilliant videos you have filmed there are literally in some cases 1000's of tonnes of wood 💪💎⚒💯❤
