As a bedside nurse, dealing with patients waking up from surgery who require glasses and hearing aids in order to communicate effectively while I am assessing them, it is extremely helpful not to have a mask covering my face. At the height of Covid, we were coding a patient due to a postop. Bleed, someone heard “I have the blood” (bags of packed red blood cells for the bleeding patient) what they really said was “I have the gloves” (we needed extra sterile gloves to place an arterial line) which resulted in a miscommunication and a short delay. We needed those masks back then, but I have seen in real time practice, that these masks can be a hindrance to effective communication that could potentially impact medical care. Given the continued paranoia on the part of so many people, I will always ask my patients if they prefer that I have a mask on when providing direct care to them and I am happy to accommodate them

Wear a mask to keep me from taking disease home to my daughter on chemo. I explain to the patient and most understand. Work with many patients who cough in your face. Once that happens patient education about hygiene is useless. So maybe have that conversation with the masked people.

You’re using the term “mask” as an umbrella term but different masks perform different functions. I believe you’re primarily referencing the simple mask because the n95 respiratory has been used for decades and particularly in healthcare to prevent airborne transmission, whereas the simple mask will not.
This video was a total waste of time and misinformative for those who may not be too familiar with the subject matter. Definitely shocking to see come from someone terminally trained in healthcare.
