I started this series preparing to be underwhelmed. After the intro, I was intrigued. After the percussive section, I was charmed. After the ensemble section, I was blown away. What a lovely instrument!
Heartfelt thanks for this deep dive into one of the most unusual, beautiful and mysterious keyboards ever made. Whenever I play mine, I feel like I'm lost in the soundtrack for some 1970s Italian movie. This video captures the soul of the Lambda like nothing else I have ever heard.
1. great video, great sound quality (i used my tannoy studio monitors) 2. glad to see you back 3. this korg sounds great and id buy one right now if i thought my trident didnt sound so similar. 4. are you ever going to do a video on the korg trident or the Oberheim OB-8?
that is fecking amazing for something that looks like a shitty old home family organ.. please man, do more of these nuts parts indepths of old synth. you're the best at explaining everything. dig it.
Analogue synths don't sound that great on you tube compared to how juicy and fat the sound can be when you have your headphones plugged right in to the synth.
I think there are a few reasons I would prefer the streichfett over the lambda. But if I saw a lambda on Craigslist or a thrift store there is a good chance I could pick it up for super cheap.
Joe Cleveland As a physicist I hear energy and power signals. Please explain the definition of fat-/phatness. But I guess it's just one of those buzz words without real substance. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=phat
Christopher wootton A real problem with this old machines are capacitors. They age and leak and change the sound of your machine in unpredictable ways. Most of these old analogs just sound old and hollow and produce hellish noise. But we live in the age of analog hype. Maybe I should make a video about my mothers old home organ? It's fully analog!
When I say "fatness" I believe what I am hearing is the wide range of frequencies that the synth is making. Some digital synths sound a bit 'hollow' because they have very little bass and mostly high frequencies, where as with my Moog Slim Phatty one note has many resonant frequencies. This may not really but what is happening, but this is what my ears are sensing. As you turn the cutoff knob you can hear each part of the harmonic series chime in. In a way it is like the difference between listening to a quartet versus an entire orchestra, the sound is fuller.
Enough with this preset-organ-synth-wannabe already. Jeez ! This is not that interesting an instrument to deserve such an extensive review, is it ?! Anyway, not to my ears it's not... To each his own I guess.
AlainHubert Four videos is too much for you, Alain? Ha ha, okay. I'll need you to email me your expectations. Not interesting enough, huh? Okay... so... I guess I should have spent more time with the OTHER 3-oscillator string synths with doubly fully-articulated amplifier sections? Primarily, I'm hoping to show people that string synths like the Solina and the Streichfett really don't compare to something like this. You may not think that matters, and fair enough. But I do. In closing, thank you for being pretty much my only troll, Alain. Of course, I wish you'd bring more to the table, but... to each his own. ;)
***** I'm not being a troll. Not everything is necessarily fantastic and incredible in the synth world just because it's polyphonic and analog, at least not for everybody, Marc. But surely you knew that ? This is certainly no Korg PS3300, common !
AlainHubert Yes, absolutely. The world is brimming with people who don't give a shit about analog synths, and ultimately, many of them are extremely limited in functionality in comparison to what the software world has to offer. But the people who feel that way are plainly not me, nor do they comprise a large part of my audience. I expect that my audience is going to be as enthusiastic about these things as I am. And my expectations are almost always fulfilled. Yes, the Korg Lambda is EXTREMELY limited. Not really a synthesizer, if we're honest. It's a keyboard that uses technology found in synthesizers to create some preset sounds. It doesn't create, comparatively, a lot of sounds. But I'd suggest that comparing it to the most powerful polyphonic synthesizer ever built is not exactly an honest way of pointing out its limitations. Not everything is necessarily fantastic or incredible. But things that are fantastic and incredible to me are going to be described thusly on my RUclips Channel. And people come hear to learn about what I think is fantastic and incredible because my explanations are accurate and credible (between the overly enthusiastic adjectives).
***** I thought it would be limited, but after watching all 4 chapters I know it is not limited in different sounds only in tweaking, but you can combine! Also watched some solina, logan & streichfett videos, but no ne of them has that unique sweet fatness!

Wow, I'm impressed by this synth
This is great for panning stereo mix!🤖📡
thank you for this amazing review!!!

I really wanted to make these videos to combat the idea that this was a shitty old home family organ, so thank you! :D
Great sounding synth
oh this sounds great
with long release it sounds like a hall,
unbelievable that this is a dry sound!
It's Lamb-good.
It's Lamb-Shawarma!
NIIIIICE !
Is the distortion in this video from a hot recording or is it the synth?
UnchainTheNight1 I think it's the age of the synth.
Oh dear. Well it was a great video anyway. Thank you for sharing.
Any intentions of going through the new ARP Odyssey?
Christopher wootton I have every intention in the world. Just waiting for Korg to throw one at me.
I hear nothing my Streichfett could not do. Analog phatness? I think It's myth and nostalgia. But it sounds interesting.

I had no idea what the Lambda is until this video, and I'm glad I learned it now.
