FROM IMPERIAL FLEET TO BUNDESMARINE: How the German Navy fights in sea battle | Full Documentary

- The history of the German Navy begins after the founding of the Prussian-German Empire around 1872. Initially conceived only for coastal protection, it grew in a few years from the turn of the century into one of the strongest fleets in the world. Nevertheless, it could not prevail against the British Royal Navy in the First World War. In the Second World War, too, the Reichsmarine and its feared U-boats had no chance in the battle for naval supremacy. Today, the Bundesmarine is embedded in NATO and fulfills its highly specialized tasks within the defense alliance.

In World War Two, considering how heavily outnumbered it was, the German Navy fought very well indeed. The same applied in World War One.
Yes it did, those u boats did alot of damage! Without the US russia would have lost to them
Hmm now you no who is nazi

@@peterbaker8443 Without the large equipment aid to Russia and uk from us, they would end up like poland.
In case you forgot, the UK ruled the seas during WW2.
I find the timing of these military documentaries comedic.
Germany today is a major naval power that builds all types of vessels to many countries. Respect!👏
Finally another documentarty🔥🔥🔥🇰🇪
It's good to see the mighty German Navy rebuilt! It seems that not so long ago, I saw documentary that implied that Germany had few sea worth ships and no seaworthy submarines!
Well, it's a little complicated.
The german navy has great ships with up to date technology, but about ten years ago, the government decided to no longer keep a large storage of spare parts for the ships. They thought it would be too expensive to store all those parts. they decided to just order new parts from the manufacturers if a new part is needed.
Meaning, the manufacturers have to produce every single needed spare part from scratch and on short notice, which is expensive and takes a long time.
In conlusion, many ships are not seaworthy, because they lack the necessary spare parts.
Luckily the government seems to slowly realise, that this policy is inefficient and more expensive than just keeping a large storage of spare parts. (took them long enough)
In case of the submarines, an additional factor comes into play.
they too were dragged down by the faulty spare-parts-policy, though the major problem in recent years was a substancial lack of personnel. they werent able to staff the submarines.
So as you can see, the german navy has great potential as a solid partner in NATO, but the problems described above drag the navy down.
Hope i could help you and anyone interested.
Have a nice day!
@@thefacer3279 The main marine problems have also been at a series of new hi-tech corvettes Type K130 €240 million per ship. The gearbox had a problems and had to be replaced by all 5 ships, wich lasted. The submariner have indeed young people problems as there are also many well paid civile 9-5 jobs in Germany on offer and only very few like to work in a crammed can. But the personel problem is also a problem of the whole German military since the abolishment of the compulsory military service. A German NCO OR-6 earns ca. €38.000 p.a., but the most civile family friendly 9-5 jobs offer the same or more.
I think germany should learn a lot from the french when it comes to the millitary. They are the only european nation that produces everything a millitary needs from nuclear aircraft carriers to small arms. Though a EU-army would be a nightmare for most superpowers though that will not happen.
@@BS-vm5bt The fact an EU army would be a nightmare for most superpowers is precisely the reason why we need it; they consider it a nightmare because it would make the EU a lot more capable of being a force to reckon with on the international stage, and they much rather would like the EU be a toothless bureaucratic organisation instead of an economical, political and military superpower. We've seen all too well how Russia, China, but also the US are trying to screw us over, and none of them can be trusted or are our friends. All the more reason why us as European nations (minus the UK, they left the EU and are much too close with the US anyway) should try to put aside any differences and focus on our similarities and collective interests. If we would be able to accomplish that the EU/European community would be one of the 3 greatest and most powerful blocs on the planet.
@@pieterveenders9793 I know we need it but it will not happens because we are too internally divided. The eurosceptic parties that are in charge of some eu nations would block it directly. Stupidity has always a tendency to win that why we wont federalize. Even though it would benefit us.
It would also benefit the US and NATO as well since they would not need to defend europe since we could handle it ourself. We could also increase east asian security aswell. It a win win.
No matter what you want to call it. Kaiserlichmarine, Reichsmarine, Kriegsmarine or Bundesmarine the German navy has always been fascinating to me. Germany is more known for its army and yet the navy has had an amazing history.
One thing I love about the German navy is it's adherence to tradition.
Your a moron, they murdered millions of people, and ur little pee head is trying to glorify those things
@@noahmizrahi9834 He is fascinated by the navy and its tradition. I am not aware that German sailors killed millions of people in concentration camps. We're talking about the Navy here, not the SS. The tradition of the German Navy is also somewhat older than the period from 1933 to 1945.
@@callsigndd9ls897 The problem is that, as a German you apperantley cant be proud of your nation and heritage without being called a nazi. German history goes back hundreds of years, but all these keyboard warriors only think between 1939-1945. Its really sad to be honest, coming from a German who is simply porud of our history before the world wars
The modern German Navy and it's predecessor, the Bundesmarine trace it's lineage all the way back Imperial Navy. It does not, however, include the Kreigsmarine in its lineage or tradition.
@@Rob_F8F Yes I know, they've been saying that since 1955 when the German armed forces was restored. However, despite what they may say, the culture and traditions of the German navy didn't just skip over the Kriegsmarine era. They have remained nearly unchanged for the past 120 years.
Thanks we need more military related
44:14 He was smiling!
A number of historical distortions from those interviewed. For example, the annual German fleet visits to Norway before WWI were not resented. In fact the Norwegians made money off them and both upper and lower class Norwegians were eager to socialize with German Naval personnel with numerous social events ashore and ship visits planned. Sad to see a descendant of Kaiser Wilhelm II maligning him, but that was probably what he was told and embraced as the truth so that he could not be accused of defending him, as well as a way of saying "I'm not like him. Don't hate me too." This ancestor hating is a common phenomenon in modern Germany where people want to distance themselves from the country's past. While admitting one's ancestors might have made mistakes, vilifying them them to the point of distorting the truth, and allowing others to do so, serves no purpose other than to display a deeply engrained self-loathing.

The history of the German Navy started with the (then failed) revolution of 1848/49. The first modern elected all-German parliament that had its seat in Frankfurt (Paulskirche) provided the means. When that attempt to unify Germany had failed the ships were sold. Its flag? The black-red-golden ensign of the German democratic movement. What else was in it except the three stripes? The black double-headed eagle of the bygone Holy Roman Empire ) with red claws and a red tongue set against a golden background. That is where the German colours come from, by the way. Why was that navy founded? To cut a complicated (hi)story as short as can be, there was a war with Denmark going on all those years about the incorportation of the Dukedom of Schleswig in that iprjected unified German state. Schleswig had been Danish throughout its history, but when the King of Denmark had become Duke of Holstein as well in the 15th century the two Dukedoms had more and more merged into one union. Demographic changes had turned the southern part of Schleswig more and more into a German-speaking area. So-called "National(ist) Liberals" on both sides were uncompromising about that matter. When the revolution that had started in France in February 1848 had come to Copenhagen around the 20th of March the liberal movement in Schleswig-Holstein decided to take up arms and declare all of Schleswig a German land. They would accept the King of Denmark as their Duke as long as he and his son would live, but for the future a German sideline of that family should reign them. The Danes defended what they called the historic right of their country to see Schleswig as part of their country only.
So, why is that German Fleet (Bundesflotte) of 1848 almost forgotten? Well, it was too democratic. Unification of Germany came in 1871 under very authoritarian circumstances and anything that was somehow black-red-golden was looked down upon or deleted from political memory.

That would be nice to see but they have corvettes that can carry more weapons than the newest Indian navy destroyers. Once they are going to rearm the frigates too it will be a good navy. They need more submarines and heavy frigates.
🔥☠️🔥
Why not showcase Destroyers instead of Corvettes??
Because Germany has no destroyers anymore
Germany officially only have frigates. The last destroyers were during the cold war.
The f125 is basically a destroyer its so huge but they still call it frigatte idk why
@@philipp4131 we so have destroyers. they're just called frigates. Destroyer sounds to bad, angry and hostile. Frigate sounds more friendly. The Sachsen Class frigates are basically classified by all maritime experts as destroyers.

Why are some Germans wearing balaclavas and others behind them not?

The modern German Navy is no doubt high-tec
and extremely professional, however if push came shove,
it might have some worrying weaknesses.
On top of the list I'd put the reluctance to really give the ships some teeth.
I'm certain that's mainly a political problem, not one of Engineering skill,
but even their biggest surface vessels AND those on the drawing-board
might be in trouble, if pitted against (actually fully functional) Russian Frigates
and perhaps even Corvettes.
That the people in Berlin would have HD pictures and tons of data on the missiles
that just blew up Ship would probably be of limited value.
Secondly: ASW.
Sure, as long as they have a Helicopter in the Air, or 212 nearby sending data, they'd be on point,
but virtually non of their Front-line surface ships have a build-in Sonar.
Yes, Those are expensive, but here one might be able to learn from the Russians:
If you can't afford high-tec, make it loud.
Passive Sonar is an elegant weapon, but if the gloves are off,
I'd rather be on a Ship that can at least actively ping the living daylight of the surrounding Ocean,
instead of one that couldn't spot a Whiskey-Class if the weather is too bad for flying.
It sure made the American Submarines scared of the Kirovs and Kutznezov.
P.S.: I'm no Russia fan-boy and very much aware that a lot of their stuff is more
show than anything else, but that doesn't mean they don't have good ideas.

Germany is going to rearm and rather quickly. No nukes, no aircraft carriers but more of what you see here already. Definitely a larger navy is needed by any trading nation. The US navy can't do it all themselves nor should they have too. Time for all NATO nations to pull their own weight in accordance to their economic capabilities.
