Saw this show in November 1988. It was one of the best concerts I went to. Roth was the complete showman. He didn't have the greatest voice, but what he lacked in vocal chops he made up for in sheer entertainment. The show had everything. He would never have been allowed to get away with this had he still been in Van Halen. But because he was solo he could do what the hell he wanted. I reckon that was one of the reasons he left Van Halen - too many restrictions for the things HE wanted to do.
My first ever concert in Shreveport, La. It was amazing. I remember him riding a surfboard over the audience to California Girls and Poison opened. My mind was blown. I think tickets were $15. Wow!
@castletriglav My, how times have changed..! Dave and Van Halen just did two sold-out night in Madison Square Garden -- two nights in Boston, Chicago, and LA on this tour too. "A Different Kind of Truth" might be the best rock comeback album ever made... I'd bet Dave is pretty happy.
@@jqzIII faster pussycat opened for them a few times on this tour. I know they opened for them in Peoria Illinois. Faster pussycat was pretty good, almost fought a guy in the audience.
Only thing i hated about DLR his live singing always seemed to be a half beat behind everyone else and he deviated too much from the albums vocal flow.
I saw this Show in New Jersey in 88, I was shocked at the time how bad Roth Sounded that day, but once youtube came out I realized he was just flat out pathetic as a live singer and the albums were manipulated. Actually shocking how someone could become so wealthy and popular with a karaoke caliber voice.
that's why diamond dave is one of the best frontmen ever, showmanship at it's finest

Steve Vai playing Oh Canada! brings a tear to my eye.
I was at this show with my brother. He was chatting to us in the blues while he climbed into the ring.
Fucken Rock On!!!! Thanks for sharing this rare gem. Van Halen forever!!!!!
THE BEST SHOW I EVER SAW , IF YOU MISSED IT YR LOSS ,
Just listen to that crowd in the break of the song
Steve Vai was the closest truly to EVH. Steve's awesome!!!! GO VAI!!!
I was there in Donnington August 1988 . Great couple of DAZE
Just to add, this was from the Toronto show which explains why they played Oh Canada as he climbed the ladder.
Vai might be a technically more proficient player, BUT in my ears Eddie´s tone just sounds better!
Way better!
Was at this tour in Portland Maine
