One thing I totally love about this take on Alastor is that the voice actor clearly used transatlantic accent while voicing him and that makes him *so good.* For any of you who don't know, transatlantic accent is a special accent that mixes classic english with american english. It was used by almost all radio speakers in the 20s/30s (which is the same period Alastor is from) because the shitty radio quality made almost impossible to understand what they were saying.

A ton of the character's sinister charm was lost and the radio effect being toned down also brought the character down.
I honestly don't see a huge difference between the new voice and the old one. I agree that the slightly lower voice of the older one is overall better. Here's what I love about Alistor. He's practically one big contradiction. None of us trust a damn word out of him and that's probably the wisest course of action, but he is also shockingly honest when it comes down to it. He's coming forth to offer whatever assistance he can, but admits his primary motivation is watching everything fail. Here's the one thing I'm pretty certain of. Alistor cares about novelty. A friendly smiling demon princess who wants to see the better in everyone and help other demons go to heaven? You don't GET more novel than that in Hell. There's no question for better or worse he wants to be at the center of that because that's not something you get to be a part of every decade. Charlie represents a toy to him right now. A new doll. He wants to see how it works, what it does, how it responds to certain things. Which is probably honestly the best position for Charlie to be in other than 'off the radar' when it comes to Alistor. He's going to give her room to do her own thing, even if he stirs things up to test her, and he's going to make damn certain nobody else ruins his fun. This basically puts her under the protection of one of the baddest demons in hell, and arguably the one who will work with her most altruistically.
Giving him a transatlantic accent just adds so much charm to the dialogue. Especially since it's not a real accent, it makes him seem even more like he's just playing around

My problem with the new alastor is not the voice its how the new version of alastor presents himself. He seems more cocky and egotistical, while in the pilot it felt like he was psychotic or for lack of a better word felt like nothing could really harm him while also being happy and carefree unlike the show he felt free and unforced with his actions some of his moments in the pilot seemed genuine without tainting his whole image.

@caliqm2199 I know, I feel like people forgot or don't notice the subtleties of his mannerisms in the pilot or something. The new Alaster certainly has some good parts, (i love his part in Stayed Gone) but most of him feels too different, it's just a whole different vibe, I think it's a combo of the new radio effect, new VA and most of the diologue and how he carries himself and moves around, he's not as touchy-feelyand feels like he is trying too hard to be intimidating where it comes off cheesy also he's quicker to anger
Alastor oozes personality, charisma, and a slight unsettling air about him. He’s perfect for pushing the plot along because he’s so mysterious and capable.
I love everything about Alastor. His attitude, the wide smirk on his face and the piercing eyes when he talks menacing and devilish and not to mention his radio voice. My kind of guy 😈
Since we're all gushing about Alastor, I love how on the one hand, he's a charming, chivalrous ladies' man, and on the other, he's an unapologetic asshole who loves fucking with people. Vaggie is a perfect example. Alastor really doesn't come across as sexist or mysogynistic, but he "acts" that way towards Vaggie because he immediately picked up on that she's a very tense, angry person with a deep mistrust for men. He's also probably a little salty about her initial reaction towards him. Alastor, while not necessarily having good intentions, didn't mean anyone any harm, at least for now. Vaggie wouldn't even hear him out, she immediately went on the offensive, stuck a weapon in his face, and threatened and insulted him. He probably didn't appreciate that. So as payback, he fucks with her in a way he knows really pushes her buttons.

In fact, this is not true. At first glance, you can see that she moves the moment the deal shines, but yes Charlie is stronger than Alastor and possible.
Alastor in the pilot and Alastor in season 1 are so different, i can't see them as one character. And it's not just about the new voice and animation. In the pilot, Alastor is more playful, energetic, talkative and friendly, he has a variety of facial expressions, eyebrows and smile are constantly moving, even the look is different, he seems more unbalanced, abruptly changing his cheerful and friendly mood to a cruel one, whereas in the season he is more self-confident, proud, arrogant, emotional (his real emotions are easier see) and short-tempered, less mobile, less artistic in him, which was in the pilot. It's a pity that they decided to change the character like that. (Sorry if there are mistakes, English is not a native language. A translator was used)
Pilot Alastor soloes tbh. I feel like they gave him an ego to nerf him, but honestly I liked the narrative better when he was bored and goofy. Imagine the episodes we could have gotten with bored Alastor just screwing with people
@@roxycauldwell544Yes, that's for sure. When I watched the first season, I realized that in many moments the pilot (original) Alastor would not have done what was shown, especially in episode 5, i just stupefied an open conflict with Lucifer, Alastor's mate and his aggression. The mystique around the character is gone too, as is his pilot charisma. It's not enough to just say "how scary he is", you need to show it.All Alastor's attempts to seem scary in the series annoyed me. In the pilot, Alastor seemed like a charming psychopath, rather than a typical cliched petty manipulative villain. I don't understand at all how anyone can believe his "manipulations" if all his negative emotions are written on his face. I also thought that Alastor would be the one who would influence Charlie's personal development, it was through him that she would understand that not everyone deserves forgiveness, that people like him do not deserve redemption, that they are deserve in Hell. But no. I have a feeling that he will actually get redemption in the end, which would be idiotic considering he is a serial killer and a cannibal. Why can't Alastor be made really bad and heartless? I think the authors flushed Alastor's full potential as an interesting character down the toilet in favor of a new plot. After all, 4 years have passed, a lot of things have changed and the concept of the characters too, I think. I'm so hurt by the way he was shown in season 1. And about the power. The authors have missed so much: scary radio interference and sounds, voodoo dolls and shadows, etc. Alastor could be made into a truly frightening character with these abilities, an unnerving smile and sadistic tendencies, what would contrast with his gentlemanly nature and aesthetics of the 20-30s of the last century. It could have turned out to be a real horror. The fact that they decided to simply increase Alastor in size and add tentacles to him is not scary and uninteresting, the authors did not want to apply fantasy. When I watched the pilot, I thought that, based on Vaggie's story, Alastor would be made into such an "anomaly" of Hell: no one knew where he got such power from, what is the nature of his voodoo powers (Are they Gods? Or perfume? what would also be ideal for revealing the world), any electronic technology went crazy next to him, what is the limit of his capabilities and whether he is a human at all. But they decided not to do this. Not only did they change his character, making him more arrogant, which infuriates, but they also simply put him on the rank of an ordinary overlord. And what is the mystery here? It would be better if they just said that the degree of his strength is unknown and it is impossible to determine him by any rank. That's it. This would preserve the mysticism. In the pilot, Alastor is called one of the powerful demons, and in the series he became an ordinary overlord. Why do that?Especially when the authors emphasize that Alastor is not like everyone else. The angular drawing of the season does not suit him either, but only makes him more angry and nervous (as well as his behavior), which does not correspond to his personality of the charismatic and charming showman from the pilot, which should constantly distract us from the evil and selfish intentions of Alastor, what does not work in the season. And the flexible, smooth animation of the pilot suits him better. About the smile, they also changed it. In the series, it's clear that this is a mask (even bluntly stated; during the deal with Charlie, his mouth is sewn shut, which means that he is forced to smile; I don't like this moment), whereas in the pilot she seems sincere and part of his personality as showman. The radio is also a problem. In the pilot, you can believe that Alastor is really from the 30s of the last century because of the strong radio filter and transatlantic accent that were at that time. Not in the series. I understand that the author originally planned it with such a voice and it's really good, but that the voice acting, that the design is not chosen for beauty, they should talk about the character, reveal his personality and all this should be logical. Alastor, for the sake of a singing voice, lost his zest, for which many people loved him, like me. And additionally. The radio, in the series, does not feel like a part of Alastor (a cheerful radio host), but as if it was put to him purely for the sake of beauty, because Alastor does not live up to his name as a radio demon, he does not have the personality of an attractive showman, as I said before. The story that someone owns Alastor's soul was also invented later, after the pilot, I think. I don't like this topic at all and the fact that Alastor has started to get used to the hotel residents. The entourage of an antihero or villain immediately collapses. I would like him to be like Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls, a character who has his own selfish goals for fun and other things and he is not someone's "dog", but in himself, indomitable, unknown, scary, dangerous. Such characters have their own charm, I would like to have more of them. Uh, well, I wrote it. I'm sorry about this essay. I just expressed my feelings and that's what happened. (Once again, I apologize for the mistakes. A translator was used)
@ВоробецНаталья agreed with your entire assessment. The whole point of Alastor was that he was so likable that he could easily manipulate people and that's how he gained power. All of his rizz just got demolished and I don't see how he got to his level of power with the way he's written now. And you're so right that Vaggie hyped him all the way up only to nerf him in the show. I don't really like how she bosses him around so easily. I also hate that the writers took away his holier than thou smug humor and turned him into a Stan twitter villian. Now he's a sassy and petty yassqueen rather than a snarky shit starter that had zingers which worked way way better for him

One thing I totally love about this take on Alastor is that the voice actor clearly used transatlantic accent while voicing him and that makes him *so good.*
For any of you who don't know, transatlantic accent is a special accent that mixes classic english with american english.
It was used by almost all radio speakers in the 20s/30s (which is the same period Alastor is from) because the shitty radio quality made almost impossible to understand what they were saying.

Too bad they didn’t keep him 😔
His best quote so far: “If I wanted to hurt anyone here... I would’ve done so already...”

@johnnyzzxd YT yeah but if he were to actually harm Vaggie it'd be a given that Charlie would not go along with what he wants so he's kind of forced to just constantly push her aside so that he can insert himself into a position where Charlie i listening to him instead of Vaggie.

Vaggie did warn her not to make a deal. And when he asked if it was a deal, that was an instant red flag not to shake his hand.
Considering he definitely heard her he probably actually had that in his favor. If she had made a deal then she could have at least set conditions but when she didn’t take the deal she wasn’t able to set conditions. He could very well use that in his favor

A ton of the character's sinister charm was lost and the radio effect being toned down also brought the character down.
Honestly I disagree I think the new voice is superior
I honestly don't see a huge difference between the new voice and the old one. I agree that the slightly lower voice of the older one is overall better. But given that the show is partially a musical, I feel as if the new voice actor is slightly more fitting due to his range in the category.

I miss Pilot Alastor. I wish he didn't change for the rest of the series
Alastor is such a fun character, his energy, his humor and the sound feedback makes him truly unique
Alastor maybe your radio deer demon but do not lay a hands or mess with him because he’s got a deadly powers that can kill anyone who lays hand on him 8:09
0:38. Alastors best scene demonstrating his raw power. Without even trying to, he’s casually warping and destroying reality. With a flick of his finger he can summon tentacled creatures. Imagine what he could do if he actually used 100% of his power…
*shudders in fear and amazement*
….anyone willing to start a religion for him? 😀
He’s doesn’t outright destroy reality. However, he does create and erase stuff from existence which is a lower level reality warping. But the fact that he can warp reality at all makes him highly intimidating.

The fact that Angel Had The Courage To Say That Line To Alastor Was Epic.

It's creepy suits him well
I have counted alastor swearing once, and that was in the comic. Kinda hope they keep up that trend as him being the only one who wont swear.
wait where can the comics be found??
What would it mean if he ever frowned. Does that mean he's in trouble or everyone else is.
@@battlefrontgameplay1388 considering he thinks of it as weakness, I'd say he would be in trouble. When everyone else is in trouble he has that huge grin on his face

THATS SO CUTE
The facial expressions Angel Dust has are fuckin amazing
OMG I thought I was the only one who noticed
Holy shit I've rewatched this so many times and never noticed that
i just noticed that XD
I just realized something... Alastor, so far, is the only character that hasn't used any rude, disrespectful and derogatory words or curses. Or at least other than Missy.
I don't know why, but that plus the fact that his literally a power house makes him even more unique.
Alastor doesn't feel the need to
He feels that a confident smile is enough to intimate his enemies and make them seem small
I’m sure that aside from his power it’s also at least partially because he was a radio host in the ‘30s.
man's got the confidence and power to back it up, he knows he doesn't have to curse to get what he wants
Uhm, about that…
This hits different now knowing that Alastor's page on vivziepop's wiki says his Canon height in his base demon form is 7 feet tall.
Jesus.... Imagine Angel!
@@sumrando9203 Angel is 8 feet tall while the tallest character of the franchise is valentino who is 10 feet tall
Out of all the characters my favorite is Charlie because of her personality and as much as I love the idea of her being at eye level with me (5'10) I keep forgetting that she is at least 6' high!
@@wolfiedabrony1802 it's easy to forget that demons are Divine creatures, meaning they are not bound by the laws of biology in the same way mortal creatures are. So they can be as gigantic as they want. Though I did read somewhere that angels and demons are just as much flesh and blood creatures as we are but I don't know the legitimacy of that claim.

@@elanpacholka1685Maybe you're right. I always saw it as he's pleased his effort was appreciated.
4:09 this particular shot shows Charlie not being as affected by Alastor's power as Angel and Vaggie were. I think this shows that Charlie has strong demonic power and I hope (if the show starts to actually be made) that we get to see her strength and power as the show goes on.
A translator was used)
I wholeheartedly agree with you
Pilot Alastor soloes tbh.
Now he's a sassy and petty yassqueen rather than a snarky shit starter that had zingers which worked way way better for him
@@roxycauldwell544 Yes... It's all very sad...Such a character's potential has been lost...There was so much that could be done...

From my many times of picking apart this episode frame by frame I have never noticed that. So cool!
He has a lot more dimension, with that richer radio voice, saturated colors, and much less intensity, compared to now. Has a lot more 20's personality versus the absolute demon strength he flexes constanly against others.
