In 2019 I weighed 215 pounds, arthritis, asthma, hay fever, diverticulitis, internal and external hemorrhoids. I felt terrible. I went whole food plant based (McDougall plan). At 165 pounds my weight stabilized. Asthma GONE, Hay fever GONE, Arthritis GONE, Diverticulitis GONE, Hemorrhoids GONE. I feel 10 years younger and have energy. God bless Dr. Campbell, Dr. McDougall and all the whole food plant based Doctors behind this MOVEMENT.

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune which attacks both of my kidneys. About a year ago I adopted MODIFIED WHOLE PLANT BASED FOOD (MWPBF) for my diet. Guess what? After 1 month adopted MWPBF, from nearly below 30 eGFR went up to nearly 70 within 6 months. This prove to me that WPBF works in curing diseases such as an autoimmune. Thank you Dr. Campbell for sharing your knowledge and you have my vote.

I watched this video years ago and at the time it seemed to me that Dr. Campbell was kind of exaggerating. In those days, I was on a low-carb, high-fat diet, but after a while my blood cholesterol level rose to such a degree that my kidneys began to fail and I almost compromised the sight in my left eye. Maybe I'm a stubborn guy and that was a hard lesson that taught me to dig deeper before making radical changes in my diet. Now, I have been on a plant-based diet for several years and couldn't be in better health.

Most of history, animals did walk up to you be captured/killed, so if cavemen relied solely on meat, we wouldn't be here today (i.e. extinction). Think of the Native Americans, they knew enough not to hunt buffaloes to extinction, meaning plants were a big part of their diet. meat is not making us fat; we ate more of it in 1960s than today and it was fattier. It is the massive increase in consumption of HFCS and seed oils that is the cause of the obesity epidemic. Seed oils are not food (unlike fruit oils like olive oil).

@@80slimshadys meat is not making people fat. Keto diets and low carb diets work fantastic for weight loss with a not too smart population. Ppl understanding the basic ideas of thermodynamics could lose weight easily on freaking oreos. Protein and moderate fat is very satiating and keeps blood sugar spikes low moderate.
The issue is that those diets lead to massive increase in the alrdy nr1 killer worldwide. Atherosclerosis.
When those low carb ppl now eat even more fatty meat, while cheating way too often throwing bloodsugar double out of whack. It will lead to highway to heartattack at 50.
The main issue is processed garbage being full of everything. Yet adding sat fat to is a health diseaster.

Yeah sorry man vegans are completely delusional lets start with the basics:
Plants are not in the business of being nutritious, plants are in the business of inhibiting nutrition, cause physical damage, poisoning, messing with digestion, messing with hormones, messing with physiological processes, messing with fertility, messing with the thyroid, messing with the gut, messing with nervous system, messing with sleep, inhibiting calorie absorption, messing with the brain and messing with well being in general. Plants don’t want to be eaten and they are expert chemist.
      Then:
All plants are hard to digest, nutrient deficient, nutrient inhibiting, gut irritating, have bad bio availability, the wrong nutritional profile composition and ratios, have terrible absorption rates and are poisonous BY DESIGN. Animal food has no such issues.
      Then:
How can vegans not acknowledge the intrinsic problem within plants that they are full of plant chemicals and residue of chemical agriculture? What about: Phytic Acid, Lectins, Phytohemagglutin, Phytoalexins, Goitrogens, Oxalates, Tannines, Solanin, Salycalates, Sapine, Phytoestrogens, Isoflavones, Glucosinolates, Sulfides, Benzols, Glutamates, Protease Inhibitors, Gluten (celiac disease), Cystine Protease Enzymes, Wheat-Germ-Agglutinin, Cyanogenic Glycosides, Photosensitizers, Phytoecdysones, Aflatoxin, Ochratoxin, Clostridium botulinum, Acrylamide, Furan, and also: Pesticide residue, solvent residues, heavy metals, that accumulate directly into the plants.
How about the nutrient deficient nature of plants? Vitamins A, B6, B12, D, F, K2, DHA, EPA, Taurin, Carnitin, Carnosin, Creatin, Heme-Iron, CoQ10, CLA, Cholesterol don't exist in plants that makes the plants by definition the least nutrient food source on the planet. Thats not even factoring in that only animal foods have the correct nutritional profile composition and ratios while plants do not.

No idiot its meat that is deficient and poison to the body. It is loaded with
      Cholesterol
      Saturated fat
      Protein
      Has no
      FIBRE
      VITAMIN C
      VITAMIN A
You could live on just potatoes and water for a year. As a man did. And was in good health.Try living on just steak and water for a year and see what would happen to your body.
      Everything about plants is SUPREME.
Superior balance of the major macros. And phytonutrients. PERFECTLY BALANCED.
Too much protein compromises the kidneys, liver. And the uric acid dissolves the bones. Which is why many forms of bone degeneration is PROLIFIC in the west. And hardly known in parts of the world. Where carbs make up over 80% of peoples diets.
B12 is not made in animals. And even meathead fools like you can become deficient. In this modern bacteria obsessed world we live in. Everyone should be supplementing B12.

Mr Westman is using people's lack of knowledge about how it all works to his advantage. When he states that carbs are not necessary, he is misleading you. Glucose is what's necessary to fuel us, and it's so necessary that the body has intelligently figured out how to turn ANY of the primary macronutrients into it. Carbs happen to be the most efficient for conversion, a strong indicator that carbs are our natural food source (along with many, many other strong indicators). Additionally, if you look at the studies he refers to, many have been funded by interested industry, and quite honestly, should not be allowed to be published due to conflict of interest. He also talks about the total quantity of sugar in the blood, and states that 100 grams of carbohydrates in a day would far exceed the amount of glucose that could safely be in the blood, again, playing off of people's lack of understanding on the matter. When the water and fiber is present with the carbohydrates (ie whole food), there is a slow release into the bloodstream. If your insulin and and insulin receptors are working properly (which they most likely are if you're on a low fat diet, and therefore not clogging your insulin receptors) then that glucose in the bloods stream would be getting delivered to all the places where you'd want it, like the brain and muscles. He seems to be implying that it would all just accumulate in the blood stream and cause a glucose overload (certainly a possibility with refined carbohydrates, but not with whole foods). I personally was part of the big low carb experiment about 20 years ago (following Atkins!) before I spent years learning anatomy and physiology. I became ill within two months with inflammation of the kidneys, and going vegan immediately started reversing it. A lot of people became ill at that time as Atkins was the fad diet then, although the reality is that correlation does not prove causation, and therefore the debate continues, despite the obviousness of the results. It's so sad to see people like this gentleman intentionally misleading others for fame and fortune. My experience is what lead me to learn as much as possible on the subject. Learn from my mistake please. Dr Campbell is a doctor with integrity, listen to him. Forks over Knives offers a great synopsis of his work.

The definitive treatment would have heart transplant, not coronary artery stenting or bypass. He fell on the ice and had a traumatic brain injury. The subsequent therapy with high dose prednisone (to reduce brain swelling) caused his weight to balloon in the final week before his death due to fluid accumulation, not fat. This is a common result in the treatment of traumatic brain injuries. His admission weight to the hospital was under 200 lbs.His death offers little to the discussion of the value of low carb diets. This just proves the whole misconception that leads to these "carbs are bad so avoid them at all cost" diets where people associate refined sugar and gain as being the holy grail of what carbs represent. What complete nonsense! My guess is he wasn't addicted to anything found in a whole food plant based diet. The issue really comes down to fiber. Our body needs it for proper digestion, and refined carbs and animals products are essentially devoid of it. Follow the fiber and it will lead you to the proper whole foods we are designed to eat - fruits, veggies, beans, etc.

We now know the secret is to eat a high fat diet, zero carbs, and ONLY enough protein to keep the body intact and functioning. The body appears to be designed to subsist on fats for energy (and making brain, nerve, cell membranes), proteins and minerals for structure (including enzymes). The fact that we have molars does not mean we were evolved to chew on carbohydrates. People chew on meat with their molars too. The fact that we can't make ascorbic acid from glucose doesn't mean we aren't basically carnivore. The fact that we need a lot of Omega 3 and cannot really make it ourselves again indicates we are carnivore. Fish, grass eating animals seem to be our basic diet. Organ meats of wild animals. Nowhere are exogenous carbohydrates indicated. In fact, in the case of vitamin C, glucose competes with it in absorption. There is no evidence that the body evolved to live on glucose, and plenty of evidence it is a ketone using body.

Fasting blood sugar levels after taking 60-70 units of slow release insulin at bedtime, were always around but above 130. I also took straight insulin after every meal and always needed more if the meal contained carbs. Usually a lot more.
Eating carnivore my fasting blood sugar taking NO insulin is around 160 and stays between 130-170 all day. Given all of the dangerous side effects of high insulin, which I was NEVER warned about, beyond being unable to lose weight or keep it off when I did, I believe high insulin is a greater health threat to me these days than a consistent blood sugar level of 160. That’s converts to an a1C of approximately 7.5.
Taking up to 200 units of insulin a day, while eating carbs, my a1C was between 6.1-6.7. Eating carnivore my insulin intake is less than 10-20 units, and sometimes none, a day and an a1C of 7.5.
I’m sticking with carnivore for another month and we’ll see what happens.

A gorillas' digestive tract converts leaves into saturated fat and protein. We can't do that. We need to eat saturated fat from meat in order to feed our large brains. Even if we ate plants 14 hours a day, like gorilla do, we'd never get as muscular as them.
And, if our ancestors didn't become hunters, we'd have never obtained enough fat to grow our large brains.

The Womens Health Initiative "low fat" group only had 2 - 3% less saturated fat intake compared to the regular fat diet, and an increase of only around 2 grams of fiber (what foods contain carbohydrates but no fiber? definitely not whole plant foods...) which is why they found no benefits for the "low fat" diet. In total there was around 7 - 9% total fat intake difference, but if you look at the correlation Dr. Campbell presented with plant fat sources and cancer, plant sources did not correlate. So the few % points of reduction in poly and mono unsaturated fats as well, will not cause a massive benefit, so really it's mostly comparing 2 - 3% less saturated fat intake between groups and finding no significant benefit. I mean c'mon, you can't expect such small changes to be significant. I actually liked Dr. Westman before he used this point. But using that study to prove this point is so disingenuous imo...

I cut all processed foods and reduced animal foods to 1 time fish per week, 1 time meat and 1 time egg per week in average. No cow milk. My cholesterol is at 105 and my other blood values are perfect. So I have also my B12 , a bit more calories , protein. I don't see any health reason to be 100% vegan. This sort of treatment is of a kind which you would not accept for yourself. Non human animals do not want to be mutilated, tortured and killed even once per week, as I'm sure neither do you. If you stray from Keto for a week you need to undergo a painful withdrawal period, a sickness, for at least a week. Life is for living. My issues with keto are a) no longevity data, b) sky high cholesterol, c) they’re mechanistic, meaning their whole case is based on a few known chemical reactions. But each plant and animal contains thousands of chemicals, our gut contains thousands of species of microbes - we haven’t even scratched the surface of all of the interactions and permutations of different diets.

NOBODY who actually experiences REAL health EVER gets ANY of those symptoms in decades (yes DECADES!) when they eat a proper diet. What the heck kind of "health benefits" is this guy talking about? WTF? I would LOVE to challenge this dr Westman and ANY doctor or nutritionist who prescribes a Paleo diet in an ACTUAL metabolic ward study for five years for a group of 20 people; ten on each side of the "debate". The "winners" who have ELIMINATED all chronic inflammation (see the above symptoms for a short list of the 100 symptoms that a proper mostly raw 100% whole food plant diet eliminates, including of course the major AND minor cold and flu suffering) get five million dollars. In fact I have had similar challenges such as this in the public domain for ten years and so far these people are all talk and no action. Sorry, but talk is cheap.
