- The Tar Heels overcame a tough comeback effort from the Orange to take their second road victory of the season, 72-68. Pete Nance paced the Tar Heels in scoring with a strong 21 points to go with 4 rebounds. Caleb Love had 15 points on an efficient 3-5 from beyond the arc along with 5 assists. Armando Bacot had 18 points and 8 rebounds in the win. For Syracuse, Joe Girard and Judah Mintz combined for 35 points.

UNC and Syracuse is always a great game!
UNC and the Refs against SYR is not so great. 23-3 at the line. Mintz driving to the basket in open court with the defender backtracking all the way and Mintz gets called for a charge. I can respect a fair loss - heck Colgate played an outstanding game destroying SYR earlier this season - But the way the refs are working so hard to keep UNC relevant in the ACC is just shameless.

@@MrMelomalo I bet you say the same if it was Syracuse and Duke playing. Yes there was missed calls but there missed calls on Syracuse too. The refs have nothing to gain if one team wins or lose. If the call is outside of the circle and the defender is in front of the player, it will be a control charge foul call 9 out of 10 teams especially that far out from the circle.

You know that was not a charge. That was one of Rj's many flops. Look at .13 in the video. She started off flopping and ended the game on his back. I don't think the NBA scouts are excited. I would hate for SYR to win like that. All ACC coaches need to get together and put a stop to this. There's plenty of video evidence.

Note to self: put ESPN on mute when Rece Davis or Debbie Antonelli are calling the game. As commentators, that was some hot garbage. They got shrill with glee anytime Syracuse made a small play or UNC missed a free throw. Felt like I was listening to the official Syracuse commentator broadcast on every official review. Terribly disappointed in them as professionals and ESPN.

Oh please. He probably added extra to the flop. He'd started the game flopping. Look at .13 in the highlights above. He and Mintz charges to the basket in open court and he ends up on the floor and get's the call in his favor. Flopping like that, he should have went to Duke in the 90's.

Also, there supposed to be a no flopping rule, why was that not called at .13 flop.
Flagrant fouls usually mean intent, like when RJ reached across Mintz' arm to stop a layup but was called only a regular foul.
On Mintz' elbow to RJ's head, was there intent to hit him? Of course RJ stayed on the floor for a full 10, milking it. I don't know if he was milking it for sympathy or still being a slopper flopper. He should have stayed there on the floor until someone showed up with a wheelchair. Maybe he could have gotten the flagrant and a tech on top of it.
This game was garbage and CUSE loss their fair share of games this year so we can take an L. But this was more than an L it was sad to watch and a lot of fans and even coach B has something to say about the officiating.
SYR 38 points in the paint with no fouls. I guess UNC let SYR shoot. 23 to 3 on the foul line. You already know the deal. Seems like the same advantage on the line UNC had against NC State. At some point the other ACC coaches will get together and complain and there's a ton of video evidence to support their claims.
When the Tar Heels were up by nine in the first half, SYR had more foul calls in their favor. When the game got tight int he second half, everything went the Tar Heel's way. The numbers don't lie.

Free throw disparity has very little to do with the refs in most cases and more to do with defensive formation and offensive aggressiveness. You have a team that plays perimeter offense (like state or cuse), you won't get a ton of FTs. You have a team that balls down low, you might get more. As I said, questionable calls on both ends (the couple charges on Love were weak, for example). You want to blame someone, blame Girard for saving the ball on UNCs baseline. They teach you not to do that in middle school and that (literally) gave unc the win. Can't put it all on one or two plays though

L. Black played 36 min. and contributed 4 pts 2 reb 2 ast while getting abused by Girard on the defensive end. smh
He also didn't have any turnovers, shut down Girard when he had to at the end of the game, and helped his team get 20 assists on 26 made field goals by being in the right places at the right times and not holding onto the ball when it came his way. Sometimes the stat sheet is a fickle mistress.

I honestly don't remember Gerard scoring that much after the halfway point in the second half, but maybe I'm wrong. Seems like you didn't most of his damage in the first 30 Minutes when the game wasn't really on the line

UNC looks disinterested like they did last year around this time. The loss of Manek has been huge not sure if Nance will be consistent enough when it matters to step up to make a difference.
The heels are actually better at this time then they were last year. Winning at Dook was the single reason why they made the NCAA

no worse than the 2 called against Love. It was funny how the announcers clearly sided with the Love charges, but not the 1st Mintz charge. At least pretend to be objective if you're calling the game.

Now college hoops is completely corrupted! I was willing to let go of the complete one sidedness throughout the game and then the last twenty seconds happened. Edwards never made contact and only grazed the ball, Mintz was driving while the defender was in his face and backtracking the whole time, and Love cleared Mintz and pushed him to the ground. Which one of those isn't true? They are all true! Carolina was gifted six points on those three plays. The rest of the game was a joke as well, but wow were those last twenty seconds absurd! The corruption in sports is ridiculous. There were so many absurd one sided calls, but the Mintz play towards the end says it all. Are you not allowed to go up for a shot if the defender is in your face? Can you only shoot from the hip or underhand the ball? What a joke! There was another Mintz play earlier where he should have had a three point play and they called similar nonsense. If a team needs this much help do you really want them in the tournament?

As usual there were questionable calls on both sides. I am so glad my HEELS were able to get another win!! Syracuse is always a tough team to play especially on their home court. Heels led most of the way, but Cuse didn't give up. It went down to the wire and l'm so happy my HEELS won. Good game. Hope RJ will recover with a week before our next game. He was constantly being hit in the face, knocked down and numerous other attacks. Never can take a team for granted. Cuse made some excellent shots, their zone defense was tough and they never backed down. It was a good game. Great to see Caleb hitting his 3 pointers tonight. All in all we were able to keep the lead throughout the game. Jane Riggs go heels!

23 trips to the free throw line for UNC to Cuse’s 3….. that’s a bit heavily in favor of UNC. UNC is a good physical team but they do NOT play that clean. Nobody does.
Only 6 less fouls called on UNC. Carolina was getting in the paint, and Cuse was shooting contested jumpers. That being said, that freshman of yours is legit and gonna be a problem. He's the only reason ya'll were in the game.
