  • In this first of two videos, I demonstrate how to work through the Siemens Simcenter Testlab Structures Modal Analysis Tutorial (which can be accessed in the Support Center for Siemens Digital Industries Software products). I access the solution through the UTS WorkSpace and give some commentary around Testlab in general in terms of management of the project, data, Add-ins, Workbook configuration, displaying data - particularly for geometry.
I process the FRF Set collected with two shakers attached at two corners of the test component (a 530 x 320 x 23 mm acrylic aka "plexiglass" plate). I work through the Modal Data Selection, looking at the FRF data, then complete a modal analysis in both Time MDOF and PolyMAX, showing some of the differences and talking about how the results are generated and visualised. I ultimately create a geometry display in the Navigator workbook, include various visualisation enhancements, talk about using ActivePictures for effective sharing before animating it and exporting to an MP4 for future use.
There is an additional video that follows on from this on completing the rest of the Tutorial exercise on Modal Synthesis and Validation: • Siemens Simcenter Test... . Please also note the complementary video on completing a very quick SolidWorks Simulation ( • Using SolidWorks Simul... ) to determine comparable frequency and modal information for the same structure.
This video is made in support of Computer Lab based exercises on the Dynamic Systems and Control B (43018) subject offered in the Faculty of Engineering and IT.
