The two of you should do this once every 3 months or so. Alternate visiting each others shop. Epic drama of biblical proportions! The insight...the drama...the pride...the passion of woodworking! Watch it as it unfolds right before your eyes. ;) It's really great to see the two of you together. Thanks for sharing it with us!
You sir, are an inspiring good sport. Good on you! For the record, I pick and choose. Matthias has great designs, You have great designs. Whatever works best for the people building it. Thanks for all you do!
Ha! Watching you guys together is something like watching two mad geniuses geek out over each other's lab and experiments. I hope you guys can put your heads together and end up designing the worlds first double bladed bandsaw. A bandsaw with a wide and a thin blade so you never have to change blades for different applications. PLEASE, you owe it to the woodworking community! Use your powers for good not evil. Lol! Love you guys. Cheers!
Matthias examines my homemade steel frame band saw for the first time in person. My band saw build article: www.ibuildit.ca/band-saw-1.html Matthias's video on folding and unfolding a band saw blade: ruclips.net/video/ezbXdUPg6o4/видео.html
I LOVE the quarter table sliding away like that to access the lower guides. That's BRILLIANT!.... says the old guy with gimpy knees and a sometimes crusty back.....Seriously though. That's a pretty sweet idea.
I like the new blade guides, John. I also liked the idea of attaching ceramic tile as you did on your mill saw's guides. I once used a similar idea for the bottom guides of a large antique bandsaw I rebuilt for someone, but I attached case-hardened steel pads to them. If you wish to just use steel angle by itself, you should know that the steel angle from an ordinary bed frame is relatively high carbon and easily hardenable.
I made my 3wheel bandsaw of wood but in Finland the season related humidy makes really alot of thicknes change to the wood so I am planning to do my next bandsaw at least partly metal. Even my wooden tripod had fallen over by its own in the shop when humidy dropped due the frosts outside and heating the shop.
You can almost feel the tension.....(pun intended) :D This was actually quite fun to watch! You guys should do a bandsaw comparison/competition, like you both do a timed blade change and make a set of predetermined cuts, change the blade, snd make a few more predetermined cuts and see who does it fastest with the best results. Time stops when the wheels on you bandsaw stop!
And thanks again for the follow up. I watched you put it on there either when you built it or did some repairs (don't remember) and wondered how long it would last. Love your work. Glad you and Matthias had a good time.
As we all know a lot. I think John's bandsaw looks better and those couple details are very smart. But lack of tilting table is a drawback and cuts corners for the design. Wooden frame is ok, but I advice to not let the blade tension on. Under prolonged force wood gives in, steel doesn't.
+bekanav - a couple of points: a tilting table on a band saw is rarely used, if at all. I would judge it not worth the bother for a homemade saw, since it over-complicates the build for very little in return. I certainly don't miss it or regret not doing. You are not correct about a wood frame "giving in" from blade tension. A wooden frame can be as strong and stiff as a steel frame and stay that way.
You should come check out my bandsaw..it's completely invisible and takes up no space at all. Unfortunately it doesn't cut anything and is still waiting to be built. Ok..it doesn't exist. There...I said it, but if it did it would be just like yours.
apatientspider Well, you know this isn't TV - there's no crew with a dedicated sound guy hanging around with a boom mic. And take my word for it, it sounded a LOT worse straight from the camera before I spent HOURS working on it to clean it up. You're welcome :)
That's not the real Matthias Wandel in your video. Not once did I hear him say, "I found it in the garbage," like the real Matthias is required to do in every video.

I can almost hear the fanfare trumpets :)
It's the most polite trash talking I've ever seen! Lovin' it!
It's got to be a Canadian thing.
Another great video. I built Matthias's bandsaw but I used your idea with silicone on the wheels - it worked very well. Thanks!
I like the interaction between two very good woodworkers. Thanks for sharing : )

Is that where he cut his finger? I see blood @3:50... ;-)
John, I didnt even realise you had made your own too! looks really good! very well designed by the looks of things there
It is so nice to see you two, arguing abbaut your bandsaws...this meeting was really necessary for a long time! So nice ^^
It's pronounced "aboot"
I LOVE the quarter table sliding away like that to access the lower guides. That's BRILLIANT!.... says the old guy with gimpy knees and a sometimes crusty back.....Seriously though. That's a pretty sweet idea.
Do I hear "dueling band saws"? Really enjoy both of these guys videos!
I liked the "dueling band saws" comment.
No, that was the strumming of the blades to check tension. :-)
John I can tell he liked it. :)
I really enjoy when you 2 are together.

Two of my favorite RUclips content creators in one location at the same time! Nice!
i think Mathias is pleased. And secretly jealous of your sander too
I was thinking your bandsaw wasn't homemade, it looks so professional.
It`s ncie to see how you two guys get along, making jokes about each other and tools you make. Keep up, subscribed you both.
The greatest Canadian rivalry since Kenny vs Spenny!
Funny, I was thinking about that show while I edited these videos :D
You're Kenny! haha! I'm thoroughly enjoying these videos!
The only other thing that would of made it more Canadian is if they were wearing tuques and drinking beers...eh
OMG. Your ceiling camera sliding dolly is freaking amazing. Please for the love of wood do a video about it.
I did find John's post on his site about the gantry; www.ibuildit.ca/other%20projects/camera-gantry-1.html
Freakin awsome watching these woodworking titans
Love the measuring contest bit.
Two great woodworkers, both subscribed to as am sure many here are too.
High praise indeed!

Even my wooden tripod had fallen over by its own in the shop when humidy dropped due the frosts outside and heating the shop.
After seeing both I would/am going to be building mine with a steel frame.
Nothing to say. Everything is done perfectly!
so cool... my two fave woodworking youtubers together in same vid... wow... like an avengers movie... lol
fun stuff...
thanks guys...
Saludos desde Argentina son los dos Maestros de la carpinteria q mas admiro m alegra mucho q se conoscan Bendiciones.
Did you forget to put magnets on the table pull-out section? He was actually drooling over that and the blade guard.
I was wondering when you two would meet and trash talk each others shop. Woo
You definitely gotta do a monster video with him. I have watched both you guys for awhile.
You can almost feel the tension.....(pun intended) :D

Love the music at the end!
How can you not like the friendly rivalry between these two?
Great music at the end.
Great stuff.
I was chuckling at the banter going on between them...
Man, that was GREAT!!
Amazing
I like creative people like you so smart
You two are an interesting pair!! 👍 Ron, Littlewierdshop
A bit like Stravinsky and Miles Davies.
I am a big fan of Matthias
Was that mostly just...actual compliments from Matthias?! :O
You guys should just do a show together from now on haha This is great
Prime time CBC
how cold is there , ? are you the only two canadians that are not taking sun down in centro america ? , great to see you two fellows on a video
wanna go to Canada and meet these guys hehe
Love it!
hmmm, superior paint colour choice...
Just an Idea. Why not turn the bearing from being sideways to straight into the blade. Great video
Excellent
quite the comedy team
I'm more surprised with the silicon caulk not wearing out after one short use than I am with particle board wheels.
Silicone has been on there for more than a year and holding up great.
And thanks again for the follow up. I watched you put it on there either when you built it or did some repairs (don't remember) and wondered how long it would last. Love your work. Glad you and Matthias had a good time.
"...it's better than yours..."
Them's fightin' words...!
My bandsaw the. Back wheels. Is parelell to back of blade. Which do u prefer
Nice
I thought you bought new camera for first few seconds :)
Thanks to Matthias' video, we know how he got those cuts on his finger. =)
David Taylor and
u should try building a wooden lathe
Has Matthias met his match? John makes some pretty clever tools. Just saying
hey great video but I think there is something wrong with the mic on your camera that guys voice was very muffled
That's called mumbling - no mic is good at picking it up :)
cool
1:59 Matthias is actually Rick Sanchez
he is green with envy lol
Would that be the same shade of green he paints his machines? :-)
"I think wood works just fine"
Yeah, but... how much wood did you have to use on yours?
As we all know a lot. I think John's bandsaw looks better and those couple details are very smart. But lack of tilting table is a drawback and cuts corners for the design. Wooden frame is ok, but I advice to not let the blade tension on. Under prolonged force wood gives in, steel doesn't.

I think he liked it...... I think😁
1:36, barnacle board, lol.
Your microphone didn’t pick up his slurping sounds after his sentences...and you call this an audio channel ;)
The video length isn't a coincidence, is it? :^)
4:19.. what coincidence?
cicada 3301..
Tony Its 4:20 for me...
You must have a sad life, dude..
god love PL Premium.

Ok..it doesn't exist. There...I said it, but if it did it would be just like yours.
You two are clearly Canadian. Hilarious. Eh?
what went wrong with your sound?
What are you talking about?
I, for one, found it difficult to make out what Matthias was saying several times in the video. No problem hearing your commentary though.
apatientspider
Well, you know this isn't TV - there's no crew with a dedicated sound guy hanging around with a boom mic. And take my word for it, it sounded a LOT worse straight from the camera before I spent HOURS working on it to clean it up. You're welcome :)
ahahahha stanlio and olio ! .....
i like you all
could have done a better job of picking up matthias. should have put a lapel mic on him or something.
Heardem say neat . he likes yours better. O_0
Its not painted baby shit green so yours wins John.
That's not the real Matthias Wandel in your video. Not once did I hear him say, "I found it in the garbage," like the real Matthias is required to do in every video.
How shitty Mathias?
more of this please !
Another tomorrow and Thursday. Last one on Friday on my main channel.
