The detailed videos are great, and it is nice to see the short version tie it all together. If I were to tackle this build, I would watch this short, complete overview first to get the big picture, as they say, then break out into the previously recorded detailed build segments. Thanks for spending the extra time to make this compilation available!
The whole project is way beyond my capability to do it myself but always enjoy watching Matthias project. So many detailed troubleshooting, fine adjustment, solution on spots. Thank you!
Your grandchildren will be able to watch this video on how the bandsaw that was passed down to them was made. Such a cool thing. Nice job Mr Wandel. :)
This guy has literally built all of his tools out of wood. I watched one video, and he pulls out sophisticated tools and they're all made of wood. Very cool.
Really not sure if I just watched a woodworking RUclips video or a Master Class in shop tool design and building. Well done! I appreciate the detail to safety when designing your tools.
Yes, the closure. That is one of the most important parts. I brought home a used bandsaw once and was so excited to use it, but the guards rattled ALLOT! Naturally, I just took them off. It worked so well right from the get go that I had to share the experience with my wife so I called her in to my shop and said watch how well this thing cuts! I was cutting a rocker, for a rocking chair. I fed the front part of the rocker into the blade watching the point of contact with the blade and NOT watching the back of the rocker. I unceremoniously fed my ring finger into the blade on the backside of the band wheel. about 3/4" deep. I filleted it neatly, almost professionally, against the bone. Yes,we do need The blade guards.
Amazing work!!! I bounced around an idea of building a 10" after I got a craftsman 10" because it still needed a few parts to make it work. After seeing this video I'm seriously considering building a big one rather than buying one simply for the price of buy one is ridiculous. You are amazing man, keep up the great work.
Mr. Wandel you are an amazing, unrepeatable, exquisite, insurmountable wood worker-carpenter.Everything you present to us is unique. Thank you very much, I bow. Greetings from Greece. Always be well.
!!! Found ya been awhile since l,very had 2 heart attacks we chatted so getting to the point awesome build going to try again got wheels started so hopefully this old heart can keep up and build what you have made for us keep them coming ya got this thks for sharing your project with us proud to have been able to watch a master at work thks again
And that is why I subscribed :). I really appreciate the short overview first instead of the other channel videos with "genius ideas", that start with cutting boards and in the last 1 min you figure out what was build. Thanks again for making our life easier :)
Saving some money so I can buy those plans, it'll probably take a whole year to buy everything to build one myself but I believe it'll be possible. Explendid job, u are a mastermind. Thanks for sharing all that knowledge.
Tried to watch, but couldn't because I remembered every detail and word. That's not a complaint, but a tribute to Matthias' excellent presentation. There is none better on YT.
WOW! Matthias you did an outstanding great job on building this bandsaw. I recognize and appreciate all the attention to details, even with the seemingly small parts. I like that you have three different sized bandsaws. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to seeing more of you builds on video! -Rob in Tennessee
I have to say,you are a genius sir, I take my hat off to you.Your thinking method excels anything on here, the items you build are amazing, I am guessing you have an engineering background, thanks for posting from GARRY IN THE UK
@@matthiaswandel My old bandsaw is a 80cm(or 31inch)-dinosaur. But I think, that doesn't count, because I didn't build it myself. My sawmill has only 55cm or 22 inches. So, yes: you have build the bigger one;)
I love the irony that you need a band saw to make a band saw... Also loved that you used the saw to make itself... I showed this to my wife... "lets build a band saw".. You already have a band saw... Ya but this one is way bigger and is really cool... She suggested I finish my old Camaro that is filling up the garage first.
Hi, I love your videos! For me you are like a little boy who is always inventing something and has a lot of fun with what he does. I love It. Greetings from Germany, Volker
Matthias Wandel, nice to meet you. I see that you have built about 5 band saws. All of his videos are very impressive, and I watch them over and over again from start to finish whenever he uploads a video. My workshop is too small to make large works like Matthias Wandel's, but I try to make small works with a lot of effort. I will continue to learn from your videos and try my best to have a large workshop one day. I look forward to seeing your videos.
U have created a brilliant design here my friend. I love the 14" Bandsaw I sw on ur website. I think I'm going to invest in the plans. The 14" is the type of bandsw I wanted to buy on AUK Tools website in the UK but they're charging a small fortune. What u have managed to produce here is just sublime if I can use the word t describe the saw. U defo got some proper building and design skills. That's where I lack skill but I'm working on it. don't use software like Fusion 360 or SketchUp, etc to draw2 up plans beore I build. I simply draw out what it is I want to build and go ffrom there. My issue is drawing out the seperate parts and this is where ur plans will help me to hopefully get to grips with layout for each part from now on. Brilliant build again man. I keep uing the word brilliant but I can't think of a beter word for this Bandsw. It's simply just that. I look forward to watching more of ur videos soon. I wonder do u have any other builds in ur shop? Have u ever designed and built a drum sander or anytig of that nature?? Keep up the awesome work my bbro.. Salute from Dublin, IRE.
Hi Matthias, like always you did a wonderful job. It's a pleasure to watch your videos. Very inspiring despite the fact that I think I will never reach your level.

I wonder if you could mayhe a bandsaw not using large wheels but a series of gears stretched out horizontally in an arch since what your interested in is the span of the blade 🤔 think like the wheels that drive the tank without the tread. Woodgears would be best able to test this out
Very nice job. My Grandfather was a cabinetmaker. He also built his woodworking machines (about 80 years ago). You may be interested - his bandsaw was made by using bike wheels.
Merci pour cette vidéo, vous avez fait un sacré travail! Ça c'est de la machine! Tous ces détails, waouh, c'est époustouflant, vraiment! Ça donne envie de reproduire la même! Bravo et bonne continuation
I have a smaller cheap brand bandsaw, and the tyres have perished. I have tried using tube rubber as a wheel tyre but it didn't work. I have been wondering that if I 3D printed a tool so that I could easily apply polyurethane (from a tube) as a semi-permanent tyre to the wheel would work as a replacement. What do you thing, Matthias?
I love everything about everything about this. I want to build one now! Unfortunately it seems like a band saw, sure is handy when building a band saw HAHA.
I admire the passion, but kind of reminds me of the plans to build a CNC table recommending you use a CNC table to build many of the parts. I'll just save up the money and buy one, but really enjoyed the video.

What is the advantage of a larger wheel size for the bandsaw? Can't help noticing you used a bandsaw on a trolley during your construction. What bandsaw did you use to make the earlier bandsaw?

This never gets old! I've seen all the build videos and can watch them multiple times.
First time I've ever seen someone move a bandsaw across their material, rather then the other way. Interesting build. Cheers!
You can buy portable bandsaws such as Mafell they use them in oak framing a lot where the timbers are to heavy to lift on to the machine
Your grandchildren will be able to watch this video on how the bandsaw that was passed down to them was made. Such a cool thing. Nice job Mr Wandel. :)

I orginally discovered your work from a old posting about making a commodore 64 wooden joystick. You are very creative and make it happen.
I liked the way you used a homemade bandsaw to build your bigger bandsaw...

Good idea to sum things up like this... btw: after reading the tumbnail I had to go to my bandsaw with a measuring tape.
how big is yours?
