FYI, I use a heat gun on the backup valve ring and it will unscrew effortlessly with your bare hands

I just replaced my back up valve. First time it cycled. It also failed open. Took both old and new apart. And they both turn fine. Put them back together and both fail first time they cycle. Any other suggestions.
When you say they failed, I am assuming that the gears stop turning. I am wondering if you are not allowing it enough time to complete the cycle. I think it cycles every 1-2 minutes
