    flair just loves the sound of his own voice, wanting to interrupt Roddy and speak for him all the time. Flair is a self indulgent man who thinks everyone else was crap compared to him. He only ever stared in ONE Wrestlemania yet when you hear him talk you would think he was in like 10 of them all in main events

    @joeybrabham I hated the Hulkamania thing. But yes, you are absolutely correct. And the fact that he was a main event, provided a stage for others to do something if they were talented enough. And if they were talented enough to be matched against Hogan, they hyped the hell out of it to the point that his villain had a lot of notoriety.

    The week it was released it was the #1 grossing box office movie in the United States and #4 the second week. A very successful movie and not really a "B" movie at all. It grossed over 13 million back then when gas was 77.9 cents a gallon and in today's standards that is around 40 million, which is very successful for any movie. I loved the movie myself. Thanks for the reply.

    @AAORD1 I'm saying this as a massive Bret Hart fan. Jim Cornette put it best when he said in Flair's book "There were guys who were better in ring performers, there were guys who were better on the mic, and there were better guys cosmetically, but nobody could put the whole package together like Ric Flair". I think that's what most people are referring to when they talk about Flair being the best of all time. I agree he couldn't touch Hart's in ring performances though

    Making pennies in movies is more than wrestlers made back in those days. Flair said his biggest year prior to 1995 was $600,000. Roddy probably got that signing for one movie plus he had a successful wrestling career too. Are you forgetting "They Live"? One of the most successful movies of 1988 and it was directed and written by none other than John Carpenter.

  • @homerguy4444
    @homerguy4444 12 лет назад +1

    roddy is bret and owens cousin. When flair said bret tried to get publicity over owen's death, that was low. I never understood why flair hated bret, bret said in his book, when he won belt against flair in saskatoon, canada at a house show., it was the greatist moment of his life.

  • @wilbert916
    @wilbert916 15 лет назад +1

    It's all a work with these guys. Like Flair said. "he made bad business decisions." The man needs the money. And dirt like this sells DVDs. This takes nothing away from Flair. He's the best in the business and in some ways gives him a the right to talk as much smack as he wants.

  • @bull864

    I'm a little torn because I'm a big fan of both Bret and Ric. I wish these two would sit down and have a few drinks so they can work out their differences. They were both such big icons in the business...it's sad that they have issues.

  • @rmathew2

  • @Corndog0202
    @Corndog0202 15 лет назад +1

    That is pretty sad and even Bret will admit he is not perfect, but I seriously doubt Bret would ever stoop to Flair's low and hang out with his ex wives to get dirt on him. Obviously Roddy showed some class and just kept his mouth shut.

    That is what I meant, I am sure Piper could tear Flair a new hole. It's amazing Piper is still married to the same women after all of these years, and reportedly never cheated on her. He just did boatloads of drugs and alcohol. It's also funny that Piper and Bret are financially secure, while the two top stars of the 80s, Hogan and Flair aren't fairing so well. Obviously Flair more than Hogan, who made 1 million to $500,000 every year since 1985.

    @mazzaroti Hogan and the WWF had lots of competition in the 80s' NWA and the AWA was huge in the 1980's....Wrestling today is not like it was back then, they wrestled every night, running three towns a night, always selling out. I'm glad you brought up the internet...because back then when WWF was running its hardest there was not a 1000 channels and the internet promoting it. The world was more aware of the attitude era...which i still don't believe it out sold the hogan era

    I don't know about that; Piper had Ric Flair induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame, and Flair's also recognized in a positive light on Hot Rod's web site. If Piper didn't respect him, I don't think he would have done either of those two things.. Also, if someone DID manage to piss off Piper, he'd definitely let him know; Piper's a lot of things, but he certainly isn't a coward. That being said, I do see your point.

Bret and HBK never drew a lot but they were the right guys to have on top during the period between 94-97..but the point i am getting at is Hogan is the Man, He Made wrestling with Vince it was a team effort..Like Fred Blassie said 1 could not have done without the other..so i stand corrected it was vince and hogan together...

    And all those wrestlers have made offhand comments about his lack of proper business ethics. Simply because they like him does not mean they respect his business ethics. I forget exactly what shoot Mick in particular mentioned how he felt about the Montreal incident and how poorly it reflected on everyone involved. Piper himself HAS commented on Bret's love for the title. Sorry I can't cite sources for you, unlike your meticulous research.
    I will also add Bad News Brown to the list.

      @666Hellmask Roddy has been in at least 45 films; many of them very good. If the only film of his that you have seen is 'They Live' then please allow me to recommend some of his films to you that I think you will enjoy. Check out the following films: 1. 'Hell Comes To Frogtown', 2. 'A Gothic Tale', 3. 'Sci-Fighters', 4. 'Tough & Deadly', 5. 'Back In Action', 6. 'Immortal Combat', 7. 'Jungleground', 8. 'The Green Fairy', 9. 'The Bad Pack', 10. 'Dead Tides', 11. 'Last To Surrender'. Those are my eleven favorite films of his, in addition to 'They Live.' Roddy also starred in a couple of low budget sci-fi/horror films that he's great in but almost no one has heard of, much less seen: 'Alien Opponent' and 'Portal To Hell!!!'

    @DeepSouthWrestling1 How would you know this about Martha? Do you know her? If both of them are writing the same thing, wouldn't you think it's probably closer to the truth? Do you think they collaborated on each other's books even though they don't talk to each other that much anymore? I'll take Bret's book over most others because his stories are based on stories he recorded on a machine after they happened, when memories were fresh. Not from someone remembering 30 years ago

    @86Stooy The reason he became a billionaire in the late 2000 is because he has 12 pay per views a year now at 50 dollars a pop back when Hogan was really rolling with the WWF it had 4 and gradually moved up. Two different brands on television....In the early 90s he tried pushing Hogan away, while he was making several million dollars a year, and trust me other superstars weren't that far behind him....superstars today ain't pulling that in plus everything so damn expensive now!

    Does anyone here have the full story as far as Bret's falling out with certain members of his family?
    I picked up Bret's book awhile back and he seems to reference the falling out had something to do with him siding with Martha Hart after Owen's death.
    He also mentioned that Ellie and Diana really tried to sabotage his relationship with Stu in Stu's final days.
    I believe Bret mentioned somewhere recently that he has spoken to either Ellie or Diana in over ten years. Sad any way you slice it.

    I question Flair's remark that territories were overrated. Compare the number of guys who made their living as full time wrestlers through the territories to the number who do the same today. With territories, there were more employers and not every wrestler had to be a superstar (like the WW "no room for jobbers" E). Flair's idea of "hard" must be working for anything less than six digits a year if he thinks territories only "worked" for guys like him and Roddy.

  • @SuperDj316

    @joeybrabham Austin is at least equal with Hogan, he saved WWF, and dont say "it wasnt just him" because it was, he defined and was the PIONEER of the attitude era. Pioneer is the key word. Ric Flair said it himself at his induction I believe. Regardless he said it, I know the video is on youtube somewhere.

    @jdbankshot I love Piper, just as much as I love hogan. In fact, I'm going to meet him in august and your right that it takes a great heal to make a great face but they could put Hogan in there with Earl Hebner and would have sold the same....People need to get real and give Hogan his credit. Okay Piper help sell Wrestlemania. Let's look at Wrestlemania 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and even 9. I'm not downing Piper he's the greatest heel that ever lived.

  • @TheLeroyMoon
    @TheLeroyMoon 14 лет назад

    @DeepSouthWrestling1 The product was superior because the wrestlers truly wanted to be wrestlers and nothing else. I've heard my share of weasel-like promotor stories, but I think there are as many today with all the indie promotions that sprout up only to leave town on a dime. From the 60s through the 90s, I think a good wrestler could make a steady living so long as he dealt with only well-established promotors. Though not all of these were fair, at least they all had something to lose.

That is also true, from what he said in his book and the things they have done it seems like Bret's sister have been much more harmful to him than his ex wife. He really doesn't bad mouth his wife and his wife does pretty much the same. I think after reading his book, his wife just couldn't deal with all the times he cheated on her.

They sure weren't concerned about Owen and his family during the lawsuit, which is something you would think family members would be behind, so why should she talk to them now? I wouldn't. The wrestling connection doesn't have any bearing on it.

    @DeepSouthWrestling1 I highly doubt scott steiner was jealous of flair. I think scott spoke from his heart and I always wondered why he dispised flair soomuch, but judging by this vid u can kinda see why. I think flair is still bitter from losing the wwf belt to Bret. Bret even thanked flair for the opprtunity in an interview after the match. In my opinion Bret was a better wrestler than flair. It has to look real and some of flair's in ring stuff was over the top/not to convincing. 3 steps fall

  • @cheux1
    @cheux1 14 лет назад

    Yes Flair has gotten goofy over the years & certainly takes himself & his role in pro wrestling too serious these days. But Bret Hart, for as good as he was, is not in the same class as Ric Flair. Bret was great w/ the Hart Foundation & his in ring performance w/ guys like Perfect & Michaels was fantastic. But he had to be matched with an equally great opponent or his matches were just OK & robotic. Flair (pre flair-flop-corner-flip ad nauseum years) was not limited like that.

  • @joeybrabham
    @joeybrabham 14 лет назад

    I can't believe yall said that Vince took the belt off Flair because he could not draw. It's all about building story lines and emotions. He has always been a draw. Back then the WWF always had the baby face champion...if a heel ever had the title it was only for a short period of time...the business soared because Hogan was in and out of Wrestling. Bret was a great wrestler but not no big attraction like Hulk Hogan or even the Ultimate Warrior...(YES I SAID WARRIOR...HE WAS A HUGE DRAW!)

  • @fundyspokerblog
    @fundyspokerblog 14 лет назад

    @DeepSouthWrestling1 Well, if anything her and Bret write in her book are even remotely true then I would keep the kids away from them too. Now that Stu and Helen have both passed, what good are the rest of them as it pertains to her life or her kids? I will agree that the lawsuit is pretty ridiculous and she needs to come to terms that the reason she's had a decent living while Owen was alive was because he was a wrestler. That being said, she probably should get some sort of royalty...

    @joeybrabham McMahon had the talents to make WWF/E what it is. Hogan needed the big stage McMahon offered to get over the top. No VKM, no Hulk Hogan that we know.

    Maybe because Bret has pissed and moaned about how he was screwed by Vince and Michaels in every interview he has ever had for the last 10+ years. He was the one who should have not been so damn selfish, and just drop the fucking title.
