The kid on the bike is Gian Sammarco. Those of us of a certain age will remember him as Adrian Mole in the early 80’s. He actually retired from acting after this role and became a Nurse.
Such a great video. This is one of my favorite serials. Clowns in hearses, Gods, memorable characters... I loved Mags and really wish she got to have an onscreen adventure, as she would've made such a great companion. Thank you for making this video based on my comment. I really enjoyed it so much and you've done an amazing job.
Another great vid. Very meta and a story overshadowed by others in this season. Yes McCoy started at this point to come into his own. First hints we start to get of the old times and that he is more than a time lord. Really fleshed 7 in prose once the show went off air. Sure done a great job with the budget at the time… I believe they erected an actual series of tents in bbc television centre car park.
The ONLY thing that ever bothered me about this story was the "The Gods Of Ragnarok" were never clearly explained-- who they were, what their motives might be, what the Doctor talked about refering to some warring in an ancient arena, etc. Too many stories from the era were over-written and then cut to the bone, a sign of a story editor & writers without enough experience in television to get such a "basic" thing right. DESPITE this, it's one of my favorite McCoy stories. Another thing, and I got this from the magazine... season 25 was designed to run in a particular order, but a SPORTS event screwed that, and it's been run out of sequence EVER SINCE. Except when I watch my videotapes. SO MUCH makes more sense, as far as the development of the characters of The Doctor and Ace and their growing relationship,, if you watch them in the INTENDED order: Remembrance of the Daleks The Greatest Show in the Galaxy The Happiness Patrol Silver Nemesis The season starts out with a bang, then like many music albums, SLOWS down for the 2nd act. Then it builds and picks up speed right to an insanely-frantic final act. On a personal level, it's just about halfway thru "Greatest Show" that the Doctor & Ace really begin to trust each other and grow in how much they care about each other. By "Happiness Patrol", they've become a well-oiled machine. This is LOST is the story is bounced to the end of the set. (I've had people ARGUE this with me over the years, but I've come to feel some people HAVE to argue about everything, even when they have nothing valid to say.)
That eye opening in that pit in response to the Doctor experimentally chucking a bowling pin down there was _very_ surreal and frightening for kid-me. As far as things went for an eighties kid, this serial did its job well, _and then some._
"I don't need to tell you your own life." OUCH! Kinda true since I watch a serial then go watch commentaries about it. I did not really enjoy TGSITG and thought it shoulda been a three-parter. Drop the fruit lady entirely. Weregirl Mags mugging for the camera growling and slashing went on way too long! I admit I completely missed the metatextuality (real or imagined) and looking back it makes sense and does lend the serial some substance. The nerdy kid was supposed to be a Who fan? Missed that, but why would JNT attack his loyal fanbase? McCoy was excellent as always and Ace is slooowly growing on me. I'm still pining for Peri! 🙂Excellent and expedited commentary I enjoyed over a coffee break. Thank you!
A recap of Invasion of the Dinosaurs. Elizabeth Sladen's first appearance as Sarah Jane Smith. Perhaps you could delve into how Liz was cast and why April Walker the first choice for the character of Sarah Jane Smith was paid for time and replaced with Liz.
Captain Cook and Mags as an intentionally stale symbolic stand-in for the Doctor and Ace never occurred to me. This story was ahead of its time in being cheekily self-referential and taking an attitude of, ‘Bugger it - we’re probably bowing out soon anyway, might as well pull out some extra-bizarre stops!’ irreverent.
this story rightfully deserves reappraisal. i’ve seen people simply pass it off as ‘silly’ i’d definitely love to see stories like enlightenment and frontios get the same type of reappraisal too
I would apply the same sentiments to _Delta and the Bannermen,_ which I recently had a retrospective re-view of. I don’t know why it was so maligned, including by me twenty years ago when I viewed it for the first time as an adult in my very early twenties . . .
Objectively, I consider Remembrance to be the best of Season 25 -- a story for old and new viewers alike, even if they are blind to Classic Who. However, Greatest Show is my favourite of the Season, and the one I'd recommend if people enjoy a well balanced meal containing darkness, quirkiness, insanity, and the simple concept of being based on Doctor Who itself -- spliced with great characters, good acting, nice dialogue, and very memorable moments. In short, top tier Doctor Who if you scratch its surface.

The psychic circus could have been the basis for an entire horror franchise in my opinion!
easily one of my favourite Doctor Who stories from my favourite doctor
One of the best Doctor Who TV stories of all time and that includes both Classic & Current Who

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Likewise, thank you for the suggestion. I had a lot of fun with this one. 🙂🐵
The Doctor's apparent modesty about being picked out was all part of his plot to uncover the truth and defeat his enemies.
Do black orchid please!
I like it because there are no aliens but it doesnt feel out of place at all and shows that pure historicals can work
This is one of the first classic who stories I ever saw and I've always loved it. Great analysis!
Thank you.🙂🐵

Thank you for the great content as always. McCoy is one of my favorites.

Excellent video! Great insights which are very relevant today.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.🙂🐵

In the top 5 of the McCoys

I always thought it was called _Delta and the Brannerman_ and I was so confused as to why isn't there a bloke called Brannerman in it

do 4th dimension theory from 1st doctor era
i second this.
I'll check it out.🧐🐵
ok
That would be Rememberance of the Daleks
My least favourite Doctor, but one of my favourite companions.
