Haha it's amazing how more upbeat you sound when you review episodes you like. Incidentally I briefly had the best part-time job in the world at uni, doing proof-listening for audiobooks, checking for errors and such, and I got to check the Audible version of The Greatest Show In The Galaxy before it was released (narrated by Sophie Aldred, natch). 15 years later and that's still a career highlight. Fantastic video Jack!
I remember this being one of the first classic who episodes I watched on britbox and I absolutely adored it! It felt like this episode could be released today It's even better then lots of new who episodes
This is one of my favorite classic Who episodes. Mark Ayers soundtracks have always been amazing. In the final parts of the episode when Sylvester is walking out of the tent and it explodes, they got a bit carried away with how much stuff to use that it caught the back of his jacket on fire. Sylvester being a badass, kept on walking because cool Doctors don't look at explosions... Also, he knew there was only one take.
Also the fact that Captain Cook is named after…Captain Cook…does help with that whole “explorer with colonial connotations” Good video, looking forward to the next one in [insert time frame here]
Great review and glad you're back but wish you'd talked more about how fuckin scary this episode was and how uncomfotable and unnevred it left you feeling.
There's a real dirge of proper Classic Who analysis on RUclips, that actually puts effort into analyzing themes in the writing or the directing of an episode, so I want to say I really appreciate this one. Hope you do more, going back to maybe the Hinchcliffe/ Holmes era or, if you're feeling particularly brave, go the whole hog and try to explain Ghost Light!
I can tell you had a lot of fun making this video! Wonder whether it will create a new fanbase for the Sylvester Doctor? I was never that much of a fan (I grew up with Dr Baker) but maybe I need to revisit this incarnation.......?
I just wanted to say that when you were self-conscious and doubting if you made any sense, you made perfect sense to me. You are eloquent, you make wonderful videos, and it's good to see you back. I hope you post more soon, but if you don't, that's OK too. You do you
Doctor Who putting out a scream of rage about its current deteriorating situation but still taking time out of the day to call the fans speccy nerds is the most iconic thing ever. Also gotta disagree about the part one cliffhanger. The hard cut from Mags screaming silently to the Doctors nonchalance is actually what hooked me on the serial the most
I first saw this when our local Doctor Who broadcaster put a bunch of classic Doctor stories from each Doctor up on their streaming service as part of the 50th anniversary celebration. It was the first time I’d ever seen McCoy and Ace, and I was HOOKED. He’s become one of my favourite Doctors ever. Can’t wait for the season 25 Blu-ray set (but I have to!).
I'm glad I'm not alone in loving this story. Yes the end is a bit weird (with the magic tricks) but come on, people are raving about The Giggle where the villain is thwarted with a game of catch!?!
I wish the new shows did post Apocalypse like this as that planet is like a warn out hole as a planet sometimes the new show can't seem to do much like Terminus or Warriors Gate the concept of a worn out used universe
Happy 35th Anniversary to one of my favourite Who stories!

Thank you! I had a lot of fun talking about this one
Glad to see someone else picked up on Captain Cook! Easily one of my all-time favorite Doctor Who episodes. Great video! Love the Chrono Trigger music
I love this style of video. Please do more.
I'm glad your back!
Thank you! I will

Good point!

It’s got a wonderful atmosphere! I feel like I could make a whole follow up video discussing more parts in detail

This, along with Protect and Survive by Johnathan Morris, is why 7 always will be one of my favourite Doctors.

I really like this story too :) It's got good vibes
I love when the ancient circus collapses at the end, surprisingly well realised considering the small budget!
Really missed your Doctor Who content. Loved the review!
Thank you so much! I've got more videos planned, including a look at the 60th specials!

Wait...is the ringmaster Ricco Ross of Aliens fame (Private Frost)? Amazing.
Yup that’s him!
Good to see you back
Definitely in my top 3 of all Classic Who.

I loved the first three episodes, but despised the final one. Let's see if your review changes my mind lol
yay welcome back bro
It's about time somebody said it!!

you should do doctor ranking videos as well they would be cool
don't denounce your heritage by saying 'jello'
Greatest Show In The Galaxy is underrated. It’s a brilliant story.

I’d love more variety of planets and spacescapes in the modern show
I understood the Fisher Price joke!
