Just recently it’s been exposed that La Barbie was working with the CIA, nobody knows for how long tho prior to his arrest. He knew the game was basically over when The Sinaloa cartel betrayed the Beltran family. He went independent but knew that couldn’t last bcuz he had little power and was eventually going to get killed, but he got lucky and got arrested instead.

You’re right he went independent for a little bit but like you say he was small compared to the other Cartels, he didn’t get “lucky” and get captured.He knew he would get killed by the other Cartels, so basically turned himself in, he, another guy and a woman got in a car and were speeding somewhere in Mexico, when he got pulled over by the Mexican Army (during this time the Army was doing most of the policing in Mexico because Mexico was basically a Warzone) he told them right away he was La Barbie and told them about the drug deals.He was smart you know why? Because La Barbie is an American citizen, he knew he would be extradited to the US were he would be in prison but safe from brign killed by the other Cartels, if he was Mexican he would never be safe in a Mexican prison

Z-9 was also declared dead until he spoke out that he was just locked up this whole time. There's also Z-39 that created his own cartel and he cooperates with several cartels at once, money wise not violence. He's just about his money and he is probably the smartest of them all for being low key and not so violent. All original zetas also took a business class in Texas to learn how to run a business, then each one of them had to use that knowledge in expanding their monopoly on crime.

They thought it was before, and only at the border regions, sometimes violent, but no wars or massacres on the daily. The funny thing was that they, the Mexicans in Mexico city (28 million people DF), we're oblivious about the murders and war taking place in their own country, life is good in Mexico city, no doubt. They didn't get the info, or it was covered by the 97% of other Mexican news on tv. We abroad got 100% of the specific information. They don't, if it's a zero point % of daily existence and news cycle. You prioritise differently. Well that state of blissfull ignorance and not involved crashed 2 years after my visit.
When the realiteit and war landed there too, straight in their city and right on their doorsteps.
