    One of the rarest plastic tanks around finally arrives. I only found one in the world and this one happened to be in the Califorinia USA and it was in pretty poor shape from chemical paint and hot sun. Can I get it back or will I fail!
    Watch as I learn from my mistakes in all matters Honda CR500r!
    So another worthwhile project hits the screen. No less the beast, a 'Mans bike', Cancelled in the name of safety, What ever you want to call it. This is the last un-restricted crazy idea from Honda to make a bike you simply can't use to it's full potential so they canned the class and for what? Dull 4 stroke restricted racing that still sees the CR500 2 stroke competing and winning in many cases after 20+ years of so-called- development. I want one. I want it in a glass case just to know I have something that belongs to another age.
    Lets see if it is up to the hype..

    I watch these when I put my children to bed and wait for them to fall a sleep.
    I love this project so much. And I love how the music in the background indicates how time passes between clips.
    These videos are simply therapeutic after a full day at work. Thank you so much!
    Did I hear some Zappa this time?

    On black plastic we use Solution Finish or Gtechniq c4 ceramic trim.

    163 likes for someone trying to save one of these beasts with as many original parts as possible is crazy low in my opinion. Love the videos. I've watched the full VFR series at least 10x. Keep up the awesome work.

    I like your channel and your ethos of trying to save as much of the original as possible. It would be great to see you grow via your work on restoring bikes via RUclips. Hopefully getting you more tools etc. in the process to make your restorations less labour intensive. I watch a channel called RCC restorations and love his work. I am a Patreon member of his too. I like his work, because he has the same ethos you do and only replaces things if they have gone beyond repair. He has a patreon channel too. This could benefit you in being a revenue form to provide you with new tools. Have you considered this option? Kind regards, John D. P.s. I would love to be doing what you are doing. Keep up the great work.

    Still loving the warts and all approach to this project. That cylinder head looks to be putting up a good fight but I’m sure you’ll get it apart. It’s your project but I would probably ignore those dented frame rails. Work on the plastics and footrests is amazing. Even love next weeks teaser 😉

    Cant wait to see the final on the tank. Not looking forward to restoring mine. I know im looking at 40 plus hours of hand sanding.

      …I feel your pain TNTMOTO. Been soaking this tired plastic in GT85 so hopefully it will polish up when I get to the other plastics!

    The chassis one is difficult. As a structural engineer I wouldn’t say the strength was particularly compromised by the dents, but equally the frame’s not got the original design capacity either, anymore. From the point of view of originality, you should keep it, obviously. However, it’s going to look quite poor, as you make clear. Options then are fill (!), replace or repair. Replace is going to take a lot of internet time, probably. Repair is going to involve cutting open the frame to re-round the tubes, then shutting it again, over custom machined internal ferrules/lugs as the tube walls will probably be too thin to butt weld. However, it might be worth cutting open the frame tube at a weld to see how it’s been done originally: I note that there are some welds that look like butt welds near that rear dipped area. Might yield some useful intel.
    Lot of work.

    The plastic repair stuff is quite fascinating, but I would be daunted by rebuilding the metal on the engine. Well done you!

    Not sure if someone else has mentioned, use paint striper and blast off using pressure sprayer mate. You might have to use a few applications on the next part needing paint removed plastic aluminium ect even rubber. Works awesome and saves time and money. Ryan from Australia very nice build brother well done 🦘🌏

    • @MyRestoration1
      @MyRestoration1  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks buddy. Under normal circumstances I would have done it with stripper but the plastic underneath was brown and flaked deep into the tank. Worst I’ve ever seen. The only way was to scrape and shape. No choice! 👍

    Helo there how to deal with ethanol/ flex fuels?

    • @MyRestoration1
      @MyRestoration1  8 месяцев назад

      It’s polypropylene plastic so no problem but over time any fuel will effect plastic due to its absorption percentage. Run it dry

      @@MyRestoration1 but wat about the rubber in carbs?

    • @MyRestoration1
      @MyRestoration1  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@melbinthomas1659 the best solution is never let any carb sit with fuel in it for long periods of time. Eventually rubbers will perish but that’s normal. Static ethanol eventually turns to gel and blocks jets, that’s the real problem! Thank you for you comments

    Its not the extra work just the fact that the impact of too aggressive sanding will shape the plastic, rather than just refine the surface. I machine polish paint...
