It's important to the character because it's something Murphy would do and Robo doing it means some element of his psyche has survived on a subconscious level
And it was a nice small touch that they could do without needing to make a whole special scene about his history as a competition shooter or anything. It keeps the story moving and doesn't waste budget.
In fairness, the Beretta 93R was from the 70s, back when people still thought machine pistols were awesome and not unwieldy bullet hoses. It's supposed to be used with a foregrip and even a wire stock to make it somewhat accurate, but even then, it was pretty terrible.
@@sevenproxies4255 The funny thing is? Not really. The reason for using a gun with a high rate of fire is to have a better chance of hitting difficult targets in a small window of opportunity. Murphy is *so* accurate, he wouldn't need more than one shot to hit his targets. Might as well save on ammo.
@@watchm4ker I disagree. Murphy doesn't just arrest single perps at gunpoint. He's acting like a nearly invulnerable one man SWAT team, like in the shootout at the drug factory, going up against some 20-30 heavily armed, resisting suspects. In those situations it would make sense to want to get a double tap effect on every single perp that's shooting at him. Also, while his legs may be slow, Robocop has very fast reflexes on account of his servo augmented arms and waist, so he'd be able to fire his Auto-9 in full auto bursts and have every single bullet of the burst hit their intended targets, even down to getting each single bullet hitting their own targets.
@@sevenproxies4255 But he's still as accurate as a computer: watchm4ker's point still stands and your own points actually reinforce his. Robo only needs one bullet for any one human target: head or heart, and if he's one bloke going up against whole gangs as you say, then watchm4ker's point of conserving ammo is even more valid. He doesn't need double taps or three round bursts. He's a computer with machine aiming. And if he needs a second round for some reason? It isn't like he's a human who's going to be taken out by an only-wounded dude shooting him in the back. If Robo can get "each single bullet hitting their own targets" on full-auto as you say, then he can certainly get the job done with single bullets, or do what you just said! No need for 2 or 3-round bursts. At all.

It kinda looked like the back end of a revolver and the front barrel of RoboCop's piece combined, but instead of bullets it was powered by some kind of energy cartridge that lasted for quite a while before needing to be replaced.
