thats assuming the robotics are on track. Unless there is some kind of hall sensor auto-orientation system (idk there might be something like that on this) it is always possible that mechanical error could cause it to deviate from the expected pattern. This is a universal problem with all robotics and there are some ways to counter it, but i honestly doubt the lowest bidder making these added that function lol.
@@oceanbytez847 You know these are used to shoot out missiles from the skies right... And are used to protect the most important things, so whatever you think should be added, has already been done.
If you can find a person who looks at you like a CWIS looks at an aircraft, that person is a keeper. (Edit: I can bother to write this sentence but can't be bothered to change CWIS to CIWS.)
It's not that accurate. There are much better CIWS in other navies, such as the Goalkeeper. There's actually a video on RUclips of a live fire excercise where 2 missiles with dummy warheads were fired at a Dutch Royal Navy ship to test the Goalkeeper, and which was all caught on ultra-slow-mo camera. You can actually see in the frame for frame replay that it took just 2 shots to shoot down that missile, all the rest that followed were for redundancy. That's TWO SHOTS, not two bursts or strings of fire, it already scored a kill in a few tens of milliseconds.
@@my8myths695 That's pretty dumb then. Needing a barrage of bullets to shoot down just one missile or aircraft doesn't matter if that's the only thing inbound. But what if the enemy has fired half a dozen missiles at you to saturate your air defences? It would mean that you might have ran out of ammo before you could have shot down all missiles, let alone the fact that even with such a high fire rate at an average of several hundred rounds needed to down a missile it still takes a decent amount of time to shoot down half a dozen of them, which are rapidly closing in and use sea-skimming and evasive trajectories.
@@kenny8343 its a possibility but id often assume it won't be likely because of the M.A.D. doctrine and everyone would just be duking it out with drones and small or large scale attacks

@@somethingsomeonesaid6455 To a hipersonic missile reaching mach 8 your rate of fire means nothing. And it's 4500 rounds per minute not 400 FYI. As I said , it is the last form of defense and it was designed to be used in a multi layer defense system for a reason.
I my brother in law told me a story when he was working at an airport, a Cobra helicopter stop to refuel and switch pilots. The copilot, also the gunner in the front, was staying on. One of the civil attendants started driving the fuel tanker out. As he approached the helicopter, the front mounted .50 cap swings over towards him. He jams on the brakes and sits there. After a little the machine gun turns away. He sits for a minute and then proceeds to drive closer and again the machine gun swings around. He stops the truck again. The keeps going a few more times before the copilot realize what’s happening and takes his helmet that controls the machine gun off his head. He was looking at the truck every time it moved and the gun followed suit.
@Commenter2 you underestimate the pure amount of hate that this thing can dispense, and it's locking onto the aircraft, not the missles/bombs. It's a russian bird buzzing an American ship, if he wanted to hit it and start ww3 he'd stay much further away
@Commenter2 one turret can drop a good few missles. Russian aircraft light up in the sky far too easily on radar and infrared. The f35 that is being copied has about a humming bird sized blip on radar. When actually picked up. The f22 has a smaller size that doesn't really exist on radar. The Russia current aircraft fall short of keeping up currently. And most of them are built for dog fighting.

I wonder. This is not a missile and I'm pretty sure the gun other than it's visual does not give you any cues on the fact that you are in front of it's barel.
Newstory I’m fairly certain (but not positive) that the white “silo” looking thing is the radar unit that guides it. Fighter jets should be able to detect threat radar trained on them.
@@PJMontoya Interesting, I thought it would have more like a centralized radar unit on the ship, considering a ship might have multiple CIWS gun systems, scanning the area around the ship and feeding all key information to the guns aboard. But then again, I have no idea how radar works, I would imagine it can go 360, but I guess that's not how they work at all. Though it remains a question, but I don't think the jest is capable of distinquishing between a normal radar and a radar connected to a barrel. So I don't think you would neccessarily see warning screaming all over your plane, but probably more like just detecting the waves and updating the map with a dot signaling there's a source of radar waves. But hey, that's all just my guess, as I don't work in military nor have any experience with the tech other than video games.
Newstory I don’t know how (probably frequency or signal strength related) a jet can differentiate between friend and foe radar signals, but they can. Otherwise threat warnings would be on all the time and therefore pointless. Each gun uses their own radar so they can act independently if the main ship systems were damaged.
Let's also remember that this system has to use a fire control solution during its aiming. In other words, it tracks target speed and distance, knows the speed of its bullets, and actually leads the target to ensure a hit. Same as missile interception. Pretty cool!
It has two radar systems, search is under the big dome on the top ,target/track is the cylinder. It (if it’s an early model) only cares if the speed and trajectory of an object could potentially hit the ship and is fast enough to be a threat, it will search and track automatically it doesn’t care if it’s friendly or not, but it will only fire on the target if it’s set to do so and has ammunition. R2D2 does have to have a babysitter at a control console somewhere or it can create a lot of paperwork, there’s been a few instances where they’ve fired on countermeasures before.

Designer: how accurate do you want it to be?
USA: Yes
Pieter Veenders it’s the US military I’m pretty sure they don’t give a shit about ammo

@Commenter2 That's why you slap even more CIWS down.

@@newstory1074 These units have their own guidance systems and can operate independently from the ship radars.
Newstory I don’t know how (probably frequency or signal strength related) a jet can differentiate between friend and foe radar signals, but they can. Otherwise threat warnings would be on all the time and therefore pointless. Each gun uses their own radar so they can act independently if the main ship systems were damaged.

You are not brave, Aimbot are brave
Let's also remember that this system has to use a fire control solution during its aiming. In other words, it tracks target speed and distance, knows the speed of its bullets, and actually leads the target to ensure a hit. Same as missile interception. Pretty cool!
So trigonometry?
The bullet knows where it is?
Because it knows where it is not
And at the same time it knows where to go
It has two radar systems, search is under the big dome on the top ,target/track is the cylinder.
