I had ducks in my classroom for 1 day, just to babysit. When I tell you that my students with challenging behaviors and trauma sat with the ducks, fed them, nurtured them, and protected them, I was floored! I had never seen my babies like that! Get those ducks into nearby schools! They are a great strategies for kids coping with trauma. In addition, they are great for environmental and health lessons.

I was in an advanced learning class in elementary school. One day, a lady came in and taught us about silkie chickens. I was about 9 at the time and I fell in love with silkies. The lady had an adorable white silkie hen. I'm 18 now and I have 11 chickens in my back yard. I have a white silkie hen named Genos and her husband is a black silkie rooster names Merlin. They had 6 babies together but one sadly died. I also have a game hen, two buff orpingtons, and a buff orpington x silkie cross. I had an orp named Fat Chicken (she was fat) and she bred with Merlin, sadly she died before her baby hatched. Her baby is named Honey and he/she is still alive. My orps and the cross are still babies and they are adorable! They love watermelon! I live in the city and we are not allowed to have roosters but we have an agreement with our neighbors. If we give them freshly grown tomatoes and eggs, they won't turn us in! Silkie chickens are absolutely amazing.

It's actually more interesting than that. The Chinese used to have a method of incubating eggs, hundreds of years ago. I imagine they only stopped using it relatively recently. Initially they would pack the eggs in warmed rice hulls. After a certain point though, the developing embryos start generating their own heat. At this point they bundled the eggs together in large quantities and insulate them with blankets, turning them as needed. The eggs basically incubated themselves. Sounds like that's basically what happened here. Unfortunately the decline in health is probably due to lack of turning and proper humidity and so forth during the accidental incubation.

They should do fine. All they need from here on out is warmth and food. They will be better off if they are adopted in small groups. I used to raise ducks as a hobby on a farm, ducks and geese. I was a real live “goose girl”. Every day my job was to take the baby geese and ducks out during the hours of daylight, and take them walking around the yard and garden so they could find bugs and food. I spent many hours on a blanket reading while they roamed around getting food. I always had to keep an eye out for predators, too, as babies are always a quick menu item for animals that live in the weeds.

Farm fertilized chicken eggs don't hatch that easily I've never had it happen. They have t o be rotated several times a day & chickens need 99° constant temp.
If you don't rotate stored at room temp eggs I've not had any hatch in the 3 years I've had chicken.
She may have gotten eggs mistakenly for hatching for that many to hatch...
You have to rotate eggs if you think you might want to incubate at a later date
Then the 99° &;freq turn schedule. Non stop for the incubation period has to be constant..

If the eggs weren’t squished, the ducks wouldn’t have been squished either. The pallets are locked in place and no baby duck would have the strength to lift it out of place.
Their health was what would have got most of them. Sadly even in best conditions, some birds just don’t make it and these baby ducks could have been unnoticed for hours.

Ducks have a good survival rate, these didn't due to bad husbandry (care). Baby birds need a large enclosure with a heat lamp on one side set to a specific temp. They also require fresh food and water on the warm and cool side. Since these ducklings were unplanned, they didn't have good care.
Also, there is a high chance that your baby duck will survive. I've had 2 clutches of chicks and only 1 died from each clutch. My first clutch was 8 silkie eggs, 6 hatched and 1 died. They were born outside on a cold winter night without me knowing it. The next morning I noticed the babies and I rushed them all inside. My 2nd clutch was 4 eggs, 2 buff orpingtons, a game chicken, and a silkie x orpington cross. The game hen died at about a month old sadly, the little guy became lethargic one day so I put electrolytes and probiotics in their water, sadly the baby died the next morning.

Opinion. Send them to Northern California, the area full of grasshoppers 🦗. Ducks 🦆 will eat them, even when grasshoppers fly. They can fly at maximum 20 mph. But, this is too slow 🐌 because a mallard can fly 100 mph, fast as a fastball from Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, et al.
Ducks 🦆 can also hide in water 💧. Then, they can fly to eat grasshoppers.

@@Gemma_626 Birds close to hatching even peep in the shell to communicate with their mother and siblings, at 18 days they have fully developed nervous system and are aware of their surroundings. So they are literally boiling birds alive with no way to run.
If your comment is a dig at abortion then I have to burst your bubble but at 3 months old the human fetus does not have developed nervous system and is not aware of its surroundings.

The warehouse would have to have stayed steadily at the right temperature and humidity for weeks past the use-by date for balut for them to hatch.

Tf you on about. Balut is done with chicks being 18 days old, ducks hatch at 28 days. They were literally ten days "over" the balut use date because the chicks are nearly ready to hatch when that shitty food practice is done. Or you think the chick grows half way then stops and waits weeks to "catch up" before hatching? 🤣

Do you think eggs hatch in uncontrolled environments without turning, proper temperature, and the right humidity? Even in the best conditions, hatching eggs is challenging. These are ducks, not turtles or insects.

There are ducks all around my neighborhood. I would say out of every 10 duckings that hatch, maybe 3 survive to adulthood.

    Ducks make great outside pets-
You won't have any snails in your yard w/ducks!!
