I don't often leave comments on RUclips, but this video really stood out to me. Very well executed in the filmmaking sense but even more so in the athletic sense. I started cycling recently and you've truly inspired me! I really hope you keep making content like this. I'll be looking forward to seeing more from you! And congrats on your achievement!
I was truly inspired by this video, recently I've been feeling emotionally challenged at work and I've also taken to cycling as therapy, the feeling of getting on a bike and being out in nature is amazing and I look forward to it every chance I get.
Thanks a lot and im really stoked to hear that this has been of help to you. Cycling is amazing therapy right. The feeling of wind in the hair and endorphins running through the body is hard to beat! Keep up the great work
Matt Forest thanks a lot mate. My old man feels like a best mate. So lucky to have this relationship with him. Stay well dude and thanks for the kind comment ✊🏽✊🏽
Jack, what an inspiration you are! I feel the same way as you judging from your thoughts on your videos. I did another Everest the other day and it gave me time to think about life's ups and downs, twists and turns, mistakes and gratitude. I don't feel the need for money as well but experience. I went through divorce recently and basically lost all financial achievements I had,but I still have the love of my kids, the same happens to so many men I know, the whole process is depressing as you lose so much of your life in certain ways. Your videos encourage us to push on through whatever we are going through, thank you for that and I wish you well on your journey of improvement, self discovery and inspiration...🙏✌️🌱😊
Extremely good indeed. I live in Taiwan, I've done that climb, my 16 year old son has done it 3 times (not in a row). Good that you can manage depression through cycling. I use it to stay mentally stable. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more of your films.
I know I'm not alone when I say it takes such courage not only to do these incredible feats of endurance, but to also reach out for help. This has inspired me to do so as well. Cheers Jack. Thanks for sharing your story. Keep on keeping on.
eveanddell thanks so much mate and kudos to you for finding the courage to reach out. It’s not easy but it’s the first step and so I wish you the very best 👊🏽❤️
Inspirational stuff Jack. Kudos for speaking so candidly about life. It confirms my own feelings about what riding my bike does to help me get through life. Your ability is only matched by your humility and you also have the time and good manners to reply to peoples comments. Happy travels.
respect how you are building a brand here, the quality of the videography and storytelling is top class! I have no issue showing support to someone trying to build their future through something they love.
i don't think this video captured how brutally steep this climb until then end when you see people walking their bikes and grinding. crazy achievement jack.
As a Taiwanese, I am very proud of our kom challenge, and I am even more proud and honored to have cyclists like you to join this competition !GREAT VIDEO !
First things first..... Congratulations Jake for achieving your goal at the Taiwan KOM. Amazing achievement!! I'm a mountain hiker turned cyclists and I enjoy both because it means I can do them alone. I often would hike to high altitude with a tent and be with nature for many days alone, just reconnecting with myself. As a cyclists I commute to work everyday but my weekest point is climbing steep long grade on a bike. However although I've never competed in a cycling event, I registered to compete in the 7 day Haute Route Pyrenees event next year (2020). Why? Simply for the challenge, to feel alive, and to push my limit. Now I have a goal I train on long climbs(which I often have to stop to rest) and I strength train in a gym. I watch many videos and found your story. It's given me strong focus and inspiration to keep pushing towards my goal. Jake.... thank you for sharing your experience. Your story is touching peoples lives and making a difference. Keep pushing forward and enjoy your experiences.
Beautifully shot and produced. Very honest and heartfelt. I feel lucky to have my bikes to help with dark times and places. You're not alone mate. Well done.
You're an inspiration to a cyclist like me. I feel you & your motivation everytime I'm in the saddle. It gives me a little push to push myself more. Please continue sharing your experience with us by putting more great video quality content. Much love bruv
Pride! Live authentically. You deserve the best version of yourself. I'm inspired and wish you many more years of happiness and pursuing your dreams and your passions. :)
fantastic achievement and a very calm modest tone with the whole approach...great to hear you open up about depression and your mechanisms to deal with it. The KOM is on my bucket list but once I am sure will be more than enough.....kudos.
Thanks for inspiring Jack! You're a great advocate for mental health and how finding something that lights the fire can keep your head up. Congratulations. What an accomplishment.
I'm relatively new to cycling, doing it because gyms are closed and i'm the kind of person who will rot if i just stay at home doing nothing. Started with just a trip around neighbourhood for 5KM ride 3mths ago turns into 25KM every morning. There's just something pulling me in doing this, the pain, the fun, the view, the struggle everything. I understand a bit but maybe not as deep as you who'd go on cycling at 2 AM lol. What you're doing is inspiring and hoping nothing but the best in chasing your dreams and success in life to fulfill your passion. Cheers mate
Thanks a heap mate and great to read of your story. Keep up the great work, keep pushing the boundaries and stay safe while doing it. Your mind and body will love you!
Very inspirational and touching. I'm contemplating doing a long-distance event tomorrow here in Taiwan but with tired legs, I'm leaning towards the shorter 320km as opposed to the 520km version. Even with the shorter version, I'm mapping out my bailout plan in case I haven't the will or the legs to finish. I just happened to stumble upon your video right now and it had me asking myself why am I foregoing this opportunity to see where my limits are. I will be doing the 520 tomorrow morn. Your message struck a chord, thank you!
I finished the 520k with one of the fastest times on the day. My legs were sore at the start. Hadn’t recovered from some interval sessions, but I took that as an opportunity to challenge myself. To see you ride the KOM 4 times is testimony of how far we can go beyond our perceived self and only bounded by limits of our dream.

Hi mate! I just found your channel. I’ve been in a really dark place. Should have returned to cycling then. I have since. Praise the Lord I’ve not been back. Bike geek question for you, what greats did you have on your bike?
Hey @Jack Thompson incredible strength, I wonder if people without similar affection for addiction can push themselves this far! May I ask if there's a reason the bike was equipped with a campagnolo groupset? Rarely I see bikers of your level riding that gear, which i think is really unfortunate.
Thanks a lot dude! Sure thing, Campagnolo were a sponsor of mine at the time. To be honest, the Campagnolo disc brake hoods wern't very comfortable for long distance events and so I've reverted back to Shimano since we shot this video.
@@jackultracyclistofficial Thank you for getting back to me. Oh thats unfortunate, hoods are almost like saddles I think. I for one do like them very much. But I'm spoiled since I like to support smaller brands. Shimano is quality no doubt, but they are just the industry standard now a days.
Thanks mate! To be honest, I actually forget! From memory I ran a 50x34 on the front and an 11x34 on the rear. Just enough to get up the final walls at the end of the climb!
Absolutely amazing brother! Love to see you smashing your goals! Can’t wait to get back training with you in a few months after Uni is done ✅ 🚴🏽♂️❤️🤘🏽
