Is Hazmat training required for a trucking company to give their drivers that already have Hazmat endorsement? I know that people that ship Hazmat are required to give their employees training. But specifically does a trucking company that hauls hazmat have to provide Hazmat training courses every 3 years to their drivers that have a HazMat endorsement? I worked at one place where we hauled pool chemicals and I thought they were just doing it to be thorough having us go through Hazmat training every couple of years. Can someone please clarify this for me
Per 49 CFR PARTS 172-173 Each hazmat employer must train and test their hazmat employees, certify their training, and develop and retain records of current training. Hazmat training must include, or be: • general awareness/familiarization; • function-specific; • safety; • security awareness; • in-depth security training, if a security plan is required; and • driver training (for each hazmat employee who will operate a motor vehicle).
