Thanks for watching! Yeah in all honesty I don't think I've ever seen a slower start to a steelhead season. Hopefully we are bound to get more rain at some point.
Thanks for watching. This was on a section of elk. RN the conditions are very poor due to the high temps and lack of rainfall. Hopefully we get rain soon!
I've heard good things about this guide service here: www.madriveroutfitters.com/s-2-fly-fishing-guide-services.aspx I've been fly fishing for tarpon 2 times now and have yet to get one lol! Good luck out on the water!
Is it fly fishing only? or can you cast spoons? I want to go to Walnut Creek and fish but I want to find a spot thats not going to have 400 people lined up and down the channel.
So a steelhead is no different than a rainbow trout except it goes to the ocean? And I guess has a different temperment? The one you caught seemed aggressive.
@@cheechwizard6541if you caught an ocean run fish and a lake run fish with the same rod and same size fish blindfolded I bet money you won’t tell the difference
Well some run more than others from the salt and from the lake. Another factor is the environment, these streams are usually shallower and slimmer than west coast water
In two weeks i’m going up to erie, and i was wondering if you’ve fished elk creek this season? If so, are the conditions good? I’m a beginner fly fisher and I have 8’6 7wt rod. A lot of people say 10’ are good for steelhead. do you think i’d still be able to catch a lot with an 8’6 rod? Great vid man.
Yesh man u could definitely use that rod! I like longer rods as it makes it easier to mend line and fight fish but u could get the job done with an 8 foot 6. As for the conditions, they were prime last tuesday but can change very quickly if we don't get more rain soon. Good luck out on the water!
Steelhead fishing is tough man! It took me quite a few years to figure it out but once I started fly fishing for them using the jeff blood rig I have been having tons of success. Here's the rig explained in detail: ruclips.net/video/h0P3B2bYrHo/видео.html
That was the ONLY rain we got. Was fortunate to get up there that day also. But it's been rough since then, with no rain on the horizon!

@@jjz814 na it’s not fly fishing only. All type of tackle is allowed in the majority of Eries creeks. Good luck this season!
These are the days you dream about!! Awesome video👍

Thanks for watching! Yeah man, steelhead are basically just lake/ocean run rainbow trout. And yeah they put up an insane fight haha.
@@troutmasteroutdoorsThese fish don’t fight anything like a real steelhead from the salt.

@@alexstamop Well, you’d lose. Out here you can usually tell if it’s wild or hatchery before you get a look at it. These lake fish barely run at all.

You could definitely catch them with an 8'6.
The conditions are always changing. I fished elk the Wednesday. There was a lot of fish in the creek. But the condition will change with no rain.

Stay home. No rain has the worst steelhead season I can remember fishing the creeks. Lake shore is shoulder to shoulder when conditions permit.
Fish raccoon creek! Much smaller and less pressure!
@@anthony3603 I’ve heard good things about raccoon, I’ll have to give it a shot one of these years. Thanks for watching!
@@troutmasteroutdoors I know I have had a few epic days on that creek!
and advertising it here is sure to increase pressure.
@alexrocco5224 and by being an ignorant dick is definitely a good way never to get advice from people..
Went up 3 years in a row. 2x a year. Only got 1 fish.
