Thank you! Sometimes it really is a matter of timing, being in the right place at the right time. Gosh knows I’ve had many days when I couldn’t buy a fish!
Hey dude I love the video and your tips! I’ve been intimidated at the thought of using two flies, but I might have to give it a try next time I’m out since the fish have been so scattered lately on my local creeks. I’ve been struggling this winter season but can’t wait to get more flies in the water! Tight lines 🎣
I think that’s the biggest key when using two flies, just use them when fish are scattered. And the tandem rig is so effective because it allows you fish multiple levels simultaneously, on the bottom and then slightly up off the bottom, which is where most steelhead like to sit. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Great video, Ralph! You caught good numbers of big, strong fish that day. Pursuing steelhead on Lake Erie tribs is something that I have not done. I tried once and did not find any fish. And, this was coupled with frigid hands and frozen toes! Looks like a blast and your talents were surely exhibited in this video. I need to give it a try. Nevertheless, you know me well along with my affinity for baby wild trout! Nothing else brings upon an ear to ear grin than landing a 10" monster wild brown or native brookie on an isolated and rugged Class A! Again, great job, buddy!
Thanks Justin! I know very well your passion for wild trout, but I would like to get you to Erie at least once to experience it at its best. At the right time, and with the right conditions, it’s a spectacle you won’t forget.
I just started working on my Euro nymphing game this year. I’ve dabbled in the past, and got pretty good at tightlining. Euro nymphing is definitely effective! Thanks for watching.
Water levels have been so low the past few years that I haven’t had to worry much about split shot. I usually just increase bead size/weight and that’s enough to get me down where I need to be. In this video, I started with a size 12 Y2K, switched to a size 10 Eggstasy, then a size 14 Sexy Walt, and then a size 14 Y2K. Basically, as the water got a little clearer, and I’d been fishing over them longer, I had to drop in fly size to continue catching fish consistently.
Yes, the video was filmed November 30th but the fishing does stay good clear into spring. From reports I’ve seen, this month has been on fire, and as long as water levels hold up, March should be really good too, at least early in the month.
Grew up there for 34yrs fished every inch always fun no matter season or weather back in the 70s actually found gold flexs just screwing around in the upper patr
Cheers
Best of luck on the water!

Awesome! Glad to hear the fishing is still good. I’ve seen a lot of positive reports lately. Best of luck if you get up there again this season.

You need to do some videos on the equipment you use for steelhead.
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll definitely do something in the near future!
Heard you mention flies used but what about split shot ? Of course it depends on the flows etc. what sz sexy Walt's worm and Y2K?

@@darkskiesflyfishing thanks,
Did you say last week of November? Do they run through February?
Your video was posted on the 3rd so I thought it was recent.

Pay to play
No, not at all. This was all on 100% public water that’s open to everyone. Thank you for watching!
