As someone who was overweight almost all my life, don't have a lot of money and struggled with eating disorders for over 10 years, I must say: Bill is right. The world has become a very stupid place filled with oversensitive and stupid people.
I think that's what specifically he was referring to when he made his pro shaming statement. The man/woman that had been 50 lbs heavier than they wanted to be for most of their adult life isn't in the same same category as the 300 lb gluttonous person who tries to sell the delusion that they're healthy
I can see how you might misunderstand body positivity with “fat acceptance” but you’re missing the point. No one is saying to accept obesity, all anyone has said is that being obese/overweight does not diminish your worth and beauty as a person. And that the beauty standards of models and celebrities are not realistic for every person.
*I was wondering how Meghan was going to explain her weight issues after Sunny said that in impoverished areas it's difficult to find healthy food because it's not available so people there eat junk food. That certainly isn't Meghan's circumstances.*
yeah, like the other posters said, it is JUST an excuse. MY family NEVER goes near the PRODUCE SECTION much, and we have lived in Middle Class Neighborhoods forever. You can find the GOOD FOR YOU STUFF, if you WANT TO, and you can even GROW SOME YOURSELF if it isn't there. JUST RATIONALIZING JUNK FOOD ADDICTIONS!
Right? Like ....she would definitely have a career if she was slender. Also - some really exceptional points made here. My family is definitely around the poverty line but will eat out on some fried food on the daily, meanwhile bushels of kale are $1 and carrots are 1lb for 59 cents. I've spent a lot of time and effort trying to get away from their eating habits. Now, they're on medication for "diabetes" when all they have to do is eat less crap.
M Mlas I largely find Abby annoying, but her point was valid. She’s expressing how she’s always experienced life as a thin woman which has consequently created a bubble where she’s never had to think about the day to day struggles of being overweight. Pregnancy taught her the minutia of issues related to having additional weight that she would’ve never experienced without pregnancy and how it’s built a newfound empathy for the experiences of plus sized women. She’s also clear to say that the experience in temporary and she only got a glimpse of what it’s like.. Now only if she had that level of introspection & humility for poor/working class people and people of color
mbealhighjump I’m sorry but 9 months of being pregnant is not remotely similar to a lifetime of being bullied & chastised for being tubby. Just ask any woman who’s been overweight & been pregnant.
@@mmlas8683 she was empathizeing with the physical struggles of obesity though, not the mental struggles. I agree it was a wierd connection but we already know Abby is a bit of a scatter brain. It always takes a while to figure out what she's on about.

eisfresh obesity is a first world problem..the over consuming of resources is helping contribute to climate change that disproportionately affects the third world, river pollution, and often the devastation of communities through people who suffer from ptsd due to factory farming. I don’t think we should fat shame people but as a population in the western world, America in particular, we need to acknowledge that not only is being ok with being fat hurting individuals but more importantly it’s fucking up people’s live all over the world because people are being self-indulgent and have no willpower.
@@cmderp I don't even know why I'm bothering to respond to this, but here it goes... Firstly, there are many obese women who have kids and are in stable and loving relationships. Secondly, and I can't believe I have to say this, none of the things you just listed exists or is accepted because of population control. Just take a look at how many orphans there are. Maybe it would be good for some more people to adopt. And lastly, why is accepting people and giving women equality propaganda? This is just the most stereotypical homophobic patriarchic comment possible. I'm honestly surprised it didn't end with "yews will not replace us!"
@@cmderp Okay, I read it. But I'm not sure you understand it. There's a lot to criticize about it but those have nothing to do with what you said and besides the dossier was written 50 years ago and adopted by Gerald ford...

@@juliadabrowska8674 no ones saying its meant to be easy. Addiction and food addiction are mental health issues. But that doesn’t absolve you of your own responsibility in your weight. He only said what he said because there is a push for a "fat acceptence" while a lot of people dying from obesity. Being offended doesn't mean you're right.
I get the feeling none of the panellists actually watched Bill Maher’s show. His point wasn’t to “fat shame” people, but that democrats in the primaries will only address Medicare and not unhealthy lifestyles and taking responsibility. And no point did he imply that you should purposely insult people but that society has can gone to the point where you cannot say anything when it comes down to weight. That’s what I thought too…I bought fruits and vegetables(berries, peppers, bananas, etc) all of it was less than $15….I don’t get why people think medical reasons are good enough reason too…so if you have a condition especially women(pcos, thyroid, turners syndrome) you name it that means you shouldn’t take care of your body even more??
Yes the panelists didn't watch the whole show, because Bill DID address socio-economic reasons and food deserts in his segment. They kept saying it wasn't addressed because it wasn't in the little clip they played.
I agree, they just take his little clip, not the whole monologue. There are now more people on this earth that are over fed than underfed for the first time in human history. These bozos on the view would never take a fact like that into consideration.
I definitely agree with the negative aspects of shame, and that shaming doesn’t help people. What is completely ignored here as usual, is the fact that there’s an obesity epidemic and that we must do something about it. Stop the virtue signalling BS and address the issue with the supposed compassion you’re claiming to have.

But I get both sides of the argument and where Bill was coming from is that yes there is alot of body positivity but some people are so extreme with it that being obese is okay even though there health is in danger.
Agreed with James. Fat shaming isn’t the same as wearing a seatbelt or littering. Weight issues can be linked to severe emotional problems, and shaming those problems can continue downward spirals, which leads to increased weight.
Yes, obesity can be linked to emotional problems, but if you're honest, you know that is a very tiny portion of the fat popultation. It is almost exclusively about people making bad decisions and being lazy.
But also body chemistry can change and many doctors are not helpful to find the sources of problems, and worse, don't have a better answer than the chicken rice veggies 4-6 meal cut diet. If you're diabetic, or even borderline, each time you eat, no matter what it is, causes you to spike.

I think Bills point was misunderstood here. The US has a long history of overweight issues and it needs to be pointed out just as Smoking was or any other addiction, there are a lot of people who choose to be obese....
When I was kid at like age 10 or something, I brought a plate of chips in a restaurant to my table, and I saw this mother and father looking at it in sadness...I don’t know why I noticed, I just remember being self aware all of a sudden, and then asked my mother ‘do I have too many chips on my plate?’ She said something like ‘oh you do, silly, dont just have chips, try other things’ and ever since that day I decided to lose weight and by the time I was 18 I was the healthiest I’ve ever been. It’s painful to be shamed but it envoked me to do something about it because for a brief moment I realised I hate being fat.
His point is misunderstood because fat shaming is not the answer here. Is argument is weak. We blamed advertisement company's once we learned the effects of smoking. Nobody chooses to be obese. The diet industry is a billion dollar industry! Obesity became a problem when dieting became the solution. A meta analysis of the diets show a 97% fail rate. James had a real potential to actually make a difference here. 40 000 people die every day from obesity, and all of society are paying for it.
@@Dpumarino the problem is that 40 000 people die from obesity every day in america. I'm not saying shaming is the way to go, but that wasn't even Bill's original message. bball- I think the fast food industry is the problem for obesity in America.. I don’t remember the last time I’ve entered a McDonnels, Burger King, KFC.. etc.. But when I was working and only had a few minutes to eat fast food was my go to and I gained a lot of weight... Later I lost that weight and all I did was stop eating fast food , I didn’t even exercise
Don't know what everyone else thinks about this, but as a personal trainer it really gets under my skin to hear multi millionaires debating this issue and using it for ratings (on both sides of the debate). The vast majority of ppl are dealing with issues that quite honestly Bill and the panel on the view don't fully understand or appreciate. The answer to this question of fat shaming isn't one extreme or the other. YES, there are many underlying reasons for weight gain, (the community you live in, emotional issues, poverty, access to certain types of foods, PCOS, Thyroid issues...etc.). But also, NO, we should not just fully excuse all weight gain and treat it as an inevitable circumstance or be content with it. There are healthy solutions and personal responsibility will play a role. Many of the obese ppl I have trained and helped all felt a great sense of satisfaction once they developed the confidence to believe that indeed they did have some control over their weight and could manage it.
You'll get somebody telling you how they went healthy and didn't lose weight. But those stories always tend to be about ppl who didn't try for long enough & were expecting instant results, or ppl who are simply not being honest about their caloric intake. If you burn more than you consume, you will lose weight. That is just your body works (unless you are on some sort of medication that makes it hard, which is NOT THE MAJORITY of obese people). Yes, people have different metabolisms and lose/gain easier, but as you said, it is ALWAYS possible to lose the weight. For 99% of the population of obese ppl, you just need to be putting in the effort. And no, you shouldn't be bullied for being overweight, but we need to stop acting like it's perfectly fine when you're really just shortening your life and don't feel like addressing the problem. We have commercials that literally make smokers feel like the worst people on earth, but say anything about somebody needing to lose weight and you're the worst. And I am speaking in terms of being unhealthy & your doctors telling you that you have a problem. Of course there are ppl that are bigger but not unhealthy. The rebuttal always seems like we are trying to force everybody to look like models or something,
Well stated. Myself I lost weight but started picking up fat as I began to lift and build. I am focused on some weights and cardio. But yeah I think a little cheat I can work off like a donut or ice cream. Its finding food I feel gives me energy and I dont need too much of is the struggle.
Yes and if people would wake up and get a whiff of reality and realize there are so many symptoms to being obese or overweight and living a sedentary lifestyle.
@@Ray03595 The way smokers are treated is pretty messed up to. James Corden's response was really good. It acknowledged that being overweight is unhealthy and that a healthy weight and lifestyle is something that people should try very hard to attain and maintain. The point is that nobody outside of Sumo circles wants to be fat. Everybody who is fat is already ashamed of it and they're either already working on it or sinking into despair born of frustration. Either way, fat shaming is not going to change their behavior, it's just going to cause them additional emotional pain.
@J Leicht Nothing original here. As if you pay enough taxes to support your parents who raised such an idiot, never mind diabetes medication. How many people would you say that too that have lung cancer and are dying in hospitals?
Obesity is what Bill was talking about. There's a difference we have the highest amount of obese people than any other country in the world. The problem is people are fat in this country because are government is trying to kill us. It's socioeconomic yes but also they want us fat and sickly to benefit big pharma, the "healthcare" system the fast food industry etc it's disgusting. The people aren't to blame but the government isn't helping. This obesity problem only exists in America why is that??????
Raph Sherman, that's awesome that you can LAUGH and not get all butthurt over Bill's piece. I think his MAIN point is very much to make sure we are not sending out very bad messages, or glorifying, obesity.
You are a person who is truly happy in their body. So-called fat acceptance advocates go off the rails if you ever so slightly hint at mentioning fat people. Hardly happy in their bodies if they react so fierce
Raph Sherman and what do you say to someone who’s also fat and didn’t find it funny? I get you found it funny and all power to you, but you don’t know everyone else’s situation. How about you get to know someone first before ‘shaming’ them for being overweight. Why not help them in a way that’s actually beneficial to the person instead of just assuming that shaming them will automatically work?
TheFallofTheEleventh I found humor in a comedian and political commentators words! Why do people get so overly sensitive to issues! Say whatever you want I'm over it!
They didn’t take him out of context. Yes he did say other stuff but he ultimately did say that fat shaming is a good thing and that is not being misrepresented here.
Fun fact: In my early 20s, I was fat for many years. Then it was discovered that my heart and liver were failing from a congenital disease and I was actually a skinny person carrying 50-70 lbs of water weight. A heart transplant and several diuretics later and the water weight is finally gone.
Better to clean your own house before shitting on someone else's. Let's check out what's wrong with you. I bet a lot, even more if you think bullying is ethical.
The most important part of Bill's speech is: "Shame is the first step in reform. It's what goads people into saying 'Maybe I can do better' as opposed to 'I'm always perfect as I am. How dare you.'" I agree. If people tolerate negative things around them, those things will become the norm. But if the community lets you know that your behavior is not acceptable, you get pressured into changing what you do. I'm not American, some of the people I saw when I lived in the US were shockingly huge. Seeing them eating greasy food and drinking sugar water out of small buckets was offensive to me! Sure, overweight people don't want to hear criticism or get stared at in a restaurant. It is a sensitive matter. But to accept certain things just because we want to be politically correct is also not right.
@Jo Sephine No, the easiest is to be passive and not speaking up. And americans as a people aren't speaking up, both on a political and personal level. You clearly need reforms when it comes to food, because it's obvious you can't be trusted with your own choices.
I mean no offence Jo, but have you tried changing the diet, drinking only water instead of fizzy drinks etc? Trust me, if your diet is light, you will even loose weight without working out. Are you trying to compare yourself to an alcoholic who's dependent on ethanol to carry on? Yes, you are dependent on food, but it is your choice what you eat, and since then it is totally up to you how you maintain your weight. Try to go hungry, grab a fruit and stop telling everyone how rude they are for stating the obvious. NOONE ever would say you are fat to insult you, but rather to hint you that you must do something to change it if you want. If you don't stop caring for others people opinions and carry on. Isn't that about how you feel with yourself?
I can not take Abby seriously on the view, she always say what people want to hear. And Bill is very right, James shouldn’t be so easily trigged.. I guess he’s becoming more American 🤷🏻♀️
I'll repeat what I said many times on Twitter about this issue: In response to 'fat shaming,' I feel the only 'other person' who can comment on a person's weight is their doctor. Alone. In their office. And with sensitivity.
Honest and facts with sensitivity dumb arse or you can’t read between the lines? Are you one of those kids in school they had to take to special ed to slowly and loudly explain what 2 + 2 is?
What about countries that do have public health care?? Everyone's paying for them. Diabetes is practically guaranteed to follow obesity. What if you're a friend? Do you want to have them needing a walker at 60, simply because they'll be unable to carry their weight? Do you want them to be bedfast for two decades, until they can finally die?? Why does that cheap rush seem to have so much more life qualitiy for them, than what they're giving up?? And what about all that money, do some people actually gorge themselves into debt these days?? Maybe someone just has to give them a good shake now and then, and maybe that's Maher's approach really.
"With sensitivity" you fucking pussy. What happen to real men with thick enough skin that criticism isn't fucking sobbed over, but rather used as moments of reflection, AT LEAST briefly after the initial sting and anger fades? We live in a country where accountability is an endangered idea.
@Jo Sephine Did you just say that people in poor countries are obese by choice but in America obese people are obese because of capitalism? So America, the wealthiest country in the world can't control what they eat and yet in other countries where famine is a real issue, they should be held accountable for their food choices? Please understand that in Europe, most people aren't obese, poor and rich alike. The fact that people can't stop eating fast food is not a money issue. Even if you ate only fast food. McDonald's has healthy options. In fact, nearly all fast food joints have healthy options now. And look at Meghan McCain and James Corden, I would say they are doing well financially. So why do they eat the way they do? The fact is people will eat what they want to eat.
Today I saw an anti-smoking PSA that read "make your parents proud: quit". That is literally shaming people out of smoking- a vice people have for the same reasons they over eat. So why do we shame one vice but coddle another?
Shame is the least effective and most damaging emotion. His ideas are based off ignorance (like genuinely not being educated on the psychology and fallout that would come from his suggestion) and superiority
"In August, 53 Americans died from mass shootings. Terrible, right? You know how many died from obesity? 40,000." - Bill Maher You know what, if shaming people manages to skew this number? Then I'm all for shaming. Secondly, it's only damaging to the weak willed, and emotionally fragile. I was actually made fun of for the opposite, of being too skinny (which I was) when I was a kid. So, I took up more athletics, and put on some proper weight. For every story someone will tell me of shaming being "so bad", I'll give them 10 of it being "so good". So really, take your tender feelings, and throw them out the window. They aren't doing you any good.
@@datriaxsondor590 That wasn't a fact. 40,000 people died from obesity? How exactly do you die from obesity? A fat person falls on you? They might have had an early death, but usually nobody dies from obesity.

Medication, genetics, metabolism do not make you fat! Sounds like your friend is full of excuses. Fat people tend to make up excuses instead of taking responsibility for their obesity that they choose to put on their bodies!
VIRGINIA DELGADO no not true. The start of the dialogue was about the Dems not addressing one of the major problems with our healthcare system in the debates. It’s about the crap foods we eat that contribute to obesity. AND while posting pics of these same candidates take huge bites into these same processed foods that contribute to bad eating habits. Then he goes into his diatribe about fat shaming. But the major takeaway people only see are the jokes about fat shaming and NOT the criticism about the root causes of it OR the irony of the Dems talking about what healthcare policies we should adopt INSTEAD of rooting out the cause of poor health from the beginning (poor diet/poor food choices). Are you sure you watched it in its entirety?
VIRGINIA DELGADO I disagree. There are people that understood. The problem is most people that don’t watch the entirety of things and base their opinions on 15 sec Instagram clips. That’s why Donald Trump and make his BS claims of fake news and people DO stop and question news sources. The cast here literally criticize Bill by rehashing the same causes of obesity that Bill himself criticizes the Dems for not addressing in the debates. I humbly disagree with the cast of the view on this. I think anyone that fails to grasp the larger issue being addressed by nit picking the smaller points of the message are doomed to be their own roadblock in life. James Corden struggles with obesity are a problem, no one argues that, but the same way we criticize addiction, recognize that it’s a problem and encourage people to go to rehab to beat it, we should do that to people while are obese. Instead we tell people it’s ok and others are wrong for fat shaming them. Fat shaming a women who has a voluptuous body type and claiming she’s not skinny enough to be a model and criticizing a man that is three hundred pounds and eats 4 Big Macs and a large Diet Coke are two completely different things. The man has no excuse and telling him it’s ok and no one should fat shame him is BS.
Comedy can be crass, which is meant to provoke controversy. In conversation, Bill would’ve worded that differently. While I agree with James to some extent, obesity is glorified. So, Bill made some fair points too.
Body shaming is a gray area. Many former overweight people have said it works. However it can also develop an eating disorder in others. It did for me. I guess it depends on how self aware and resilient the person is.
Exactly. It didn't just happen one day. You picked up bad habits. I don't think shaming helps too much, but teaching people better eating/exercise habits is the right way to go. Acting like everything is fine about your body is just being in denial about reality.

I’m not trying to call you out or anything, I just wanted to say this to make you think about how much worse things could be fire this planet. We could all be dead right now.
If you think people applauded Corden for saying he was fat, you're oversimplifying things just like Maher. Corden admitted it was a health issue and something he's still trying to change. There was not a single moment in his rant where people applauded fatness.
Yes there are. It's not every overweight person of course, nor maybe a majority of them. But there are people who are overweight from medical conditions, from genetics, or from things other than simple laziness and unhealthy eating.
After years of depression and severe obesity. I had weight loss surgery still the scale didn't go down like it should have, a year latter I FINALLY have answers. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Diverticulitis finally I'm on the right track and started a new diet I already feel so much better. I honestly cried when I found out not from sadness but so much happiness it's going to change my life.
Bill is half right, and The View panelists are half right too. So what’s the middle ground? As Bill pointed out, shaming has its useful place, to shame people to wear seatbelts, to shame people to not be racist. But what he failed to distinguish is that those examples are of things people have *control* over but *chose* not to do. In instances of bad choices shame can work to get people to do the right thing. But not everything a person does is based on a choice, as pointed out by the panelists on The View. But the problem with the opinion of the panelists on The View is that not everything is beyond our control either. Yes, being fat is not a choice for everyone. I would say it is a choice for some people. But it is not a choice to be fat for many people, because individual genetics play a huge role in SOME people (not all, but some). An entire ethnic group is even predisposed to being big (Pacific Islanders evolved from Austronesians, and are essentially genetically modified versions of Austronesians who are predisposed to being really big). Being gay is not a choice. You can’t shame someone into being straight. At the most, a heteronormative society might be able to shame bisexual members of its society into acting only on their heterosexual urges (because for bisexuals who they are attracted to is a choice, so they can chose to act on one or the other), but that won’t work on homosexuals in a heteronormative society because that choice is absent for homosexuals (they’re only attracted to the same sex), so the expectation that homosexuals can be shamed into acting out heterosexually is misguided and harmful. So yes, shaming has its place, for those instances where things are being done as a bad choice. But shaming should be avoided as counterproductive in instances where there is no choice in what you or any other person might disagree with, such as being fat (in those it it predisposed by genetics or ethnicity or disease), or in certain instances sexuality, etc.
Couldn't have said it better myself. We do however shame people into being straight and it 'works'. As in, people try and be straight even though that's not what their body is telling them that they should be. The same way I feel about bigger people. Your body's genetics are telling you be this size, so why are you fighting it and being balemic so that you can be a smaller size? Because of the shame. And that's the consequence of shaming things out of your control. You control if you put on your seatbelt. You control if you smoke a cigarette (besides addiction taking that control away from some people). But that's not the same argument when it comes to how much your body absorbs and discards things that you eat. It's different for each person.
Their is a positive way to encourage people and then there are ways that don't work. Listening to his entire part it was kinda rough. An james is right its bullying
ExPFC Wintergreen v2.0, i agree with that sentiment, however, whether we were made addicts was originally done on purpose is debatable. Why? Because the human body evolved to crave sugars and fats precisely because they are the best and most efficient sources of energy. The problem, however, is that we humans relatively recently in our evolutionary history found a way to manufacture sugars and fats artificially in amounts that have never existed in nature. Our hunter gatherer ancestors needed as much sugar as they could get. So we therefore evolved to crave it. But sugars in their natural sources and in their natural states always come in small quantities and always accompanied by other things, preventing overconsumption. Fructose exists in fruits, but you would have to impossibly consume a whole bag of oranges to get the sugar found in one glass of orange juice. There’s just too much fibre in fruits that eating them itself prevents you from over consuming sugar in its natural state from natural sources. Yet how easily do some people drink a quart of orange juice? And that’s pure orange juice without added sugars. Now imagine artificial orange drinks with added sugars. Now imagine soda pop. You would have to drink an impossible amount of milk to get fat from lactose (the sugar found in milk). There’s just too much protein and whey. We evolved to crave fat. But how many animals would we need to hunt and devour to get enough fat on its natural state from cuts of meat we eat, or how many olives would we need to eat to get the equivalent of a teaspoon on oil. But how easily do we now consume the oils we press from olives. Or margarines. We’ve even discovered how to extract the fat from milk to make butter. We evolved to crave all the things we require to survive. That craving evolved because we needed a reason to seek it out in nature in enough quantities to meet our requirements. Now, however, we have learnt to manufacture it all (changing our surrounding circumstance) but our craving for it has not had the time to evolved to crave it less given the vast artificial availability of it all.
Bill is right. You're outlook on fat shaming is not his outlook on fat shaming: hes making the point that no matter what you say about somebody's weight, now a days it's considered "fat shaming". what hes trying to say is STOP trying to make it normal and ok to be overweight/obese and unhealthy.
Defending obesity is encouraging it. A perfect example of the insanity going on these days. Just like parents encouraging gender re-assignment when their child is still a child.
Thank you Whoopi for bringing up thyroid issues being a real reason some of us are bigger. I suffer from hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's disease. The struggle is real.
Everyone should go watch Bill Maher’s response on Joe Rogan’s podcast. He has great points. The panel in this video is saying the simple answer. It’s much more difficult to state the facts although they may be hard to hear.
Shame does not put someone into a mindset of “I need to change.” It puts people into a mindset of “I’m terrible.” You don’t put in a negative and expect a positive.
Thyroid problems can really affect your weight. I've struggled all of my life with obesity. Last year I was getting treated for a work related back injury and had to take a blood test. Found out my thyroid wasn't properly functioning and was provided with treatment. Even with my active lifestyle coming to a halt because of the pandemic lockdown, I dropped over fifty pounds! I'm still obese, and I need to keep managing my weight, but it was incredible to find out that something so small could affect my weight that much.
They made bill look like way more cruel than he was being he isn't talking about 50 lbs overweight hes talking about the 400 lbs people who are doing nothing for this world and the points The View brought up were stupid if you can afford McDonalds you can afford a salad and even if u HAVE TO EAT McDonalds maybe don't have it for every meal lmao like just don't eat as much lmao
There are Native American tribes that are obese due to White European culture forced upon them and their traditional food sources taken away from them. Genetic differences.

@@johnnycombs7459 America's food industry is the reason so many people are fat, I'll give them that, but if you can shame people for touching kids and being racist, which people don't openly do because of fear of being shamed then maybe you can do it to fat people and stop egging them on to stay fat.
He was both right and wrong. Sometimes, it is good to shame people because that is the extra push they need in order to get better. But honestly, fat shaming is bad all around. It helps some people lose weight but it also does a lot of damage to their self-esteem. For instance, a person can be shamed into loosing weight but then he will spend the rest of his or her life being self-conscious and afraid of gaining weight. That's not a good thing. You should be more tolerant and understanding. Moral of the story is, fat shaming is fucked up. It might work for some (although it does more damage) and it might not work for others.

Spoken like a true, unbiased expert. Thank you for the weigh-in.
Fat shaming doesn't work because most Americans have no shame.
Aint that tge truth

James Cordon said that perfectly. I appreciate that he admits that he doesn’t want to be fat, too.
I'm fat and laughed at Bill Maher's piece! I thought it was funny!
I know they didn’t listen to Bill’s entire commentary.

Well, she IS a lawyer, whilst the others aren't.
Bill Maher was taken out of context. We have a health problem in America and we need to acknowledge that.
We get it. Some people really do have medical conditions that make them overweight. The vast majorty do not.
I don't agree with how Maher delivered his message. However, I do agree with his core message.

The most important part of Bill's speech is:
"Shame is the first step in reform. It's what goads people into saying 'Maybe I can do better' as opposed to 'I'm always perfect as I am. How dare you.'"
I agree.
I agree with Bill Maher
I can not take Abby seriously on the view, she always say what people want to hear. And Bill is very right, James shouldn’t be so easily trigged.. I guess he’s becoming more American 🤷🏻♀️
I'll repeat what I said many times on Twitter about this issue:
In response to 'fat shaming,' I feel the only 'other person' who can comment on a person's weight is their doctor. Alone. In their office. And with sensitivity.
@Jonny Tainment How about honesty and facts instead of sensitivity?
That’s not shaming lmao. You’re living life on easy mode if you think that’s shaming.
I agree with Bill Maher. But then again I watched his entire show.
Shame is the least effective and most damaging emotion. His ideas are based off ignorance (like genuinely not being educated on the psychology and fallout that would come from his suggestion) and superiority
"In August, 53 Americans died from mass shootings. Terrible, right? You know how many died from obesity? 40,000." - Bill Maher
You know what, if shaming people manages to skew this number? Then I'm all for shaming.
Secondly, it's only damaging to the weak willed, and emotionally fragile. I was actually made fun of for the opposite, of being too skinny (which I was) when I was a kid. So, I took up more athletics, and put on some proper weight.
For every story someone will tell me of shaming being "so bad", I'll give them 10 of it being "so good". So really, take your tender feelings, and throw them out the window. They aren't doing you any good.

Rah Digga he didn’t get his message accross because of his stupid decision to encourage fat-shaming.
Rah Digga what is it to you if you shame someone? You must be pretty perfect to dare criticize anything else but your own reflexion...
Comedy can be crass, which is meant to provoke controversy. In conversation, Bill would’ve worded that differently. While I agree with James to some extent, obesity is glorified. So, Bill made some fair points too.

*Stop making fun of fat people!*
*_They already have a lot on their plate._*
There aren’t “ just big “ people Whoopi !
The modern food industry has profited from turning consumers into addicts by use of salt, fat and sugar

Traditional foods haven't been taken away. They simply chose to eat modern American foods.
Raja1938 ........when native Americans were put on reservations the US government had to PROVIDE foods for them to eat and those foods were high in sugar, starch, salt, etc which is a huge reason why Native Americans have the highest prevalence of diabetes
@Veganism Kills I'm skinny as a rail, my mom was and my one kid is. No matter how much we eat, we can't gain weight.
Lynn Appleby oh my, please don’t embarrass native Indians , they are noble people who do not need excuses made for them by a melt
@@nationstates7699 it's not an excuse. It's a physiological, historical fact. The consequence of US government policy that was devastating to people's culture, their livelihood, way of life, hunting and their food system. Their genetics from thousands of years.
He's right but people won't take it well because of the way that he said it, especially these days.
Shaming someone for any reason is bullying. It's meant to embarrass and humiliate. Its not right. Health imsurance will help with just about anything. Stop smoking, erectile dysfunction but not weight loss.
@@johnnycombs7459 America's food industry is the reason so many people are fat, I'll give them that, but if you can shame people for touching kids and being racist, which people don't openly do because of fear of being shamed then maybe you can do it to fat people and stop egging them on to stay fat.
Bill Maher was right. We should also shame soft and weak behavior.
How stupid.
Fat shaming and fat acceptance both lead to more obesity and I hate it
Count calories. Eat less. Move more. It's not that hard.
