In today's NFL it is a proven fact that you need 2 Good RB's. You don't want to wear down your RB1 to the point where he's not effective late in the Season and is injury prone. You Need Both Jaylen and Najee. I doubt if Jaylen can handle a bell cow season. It's not an effective Stragedy.
Najee had 3 straight 1000 Yd season despite a below offensive line and NO Offensive Coordinator. With this Much improved OL, both Najee and Jaylen will get 1000 Yds. Mike Tomlin Loves Najee on and off the Feild. Najee will get an extension 3 Year 24 MIL.
The Steelers have roughly 20 MIL in Cap Space. Cut Holcomb and Herbig will save 8 Mil, then you will have 28 Mil in Cap Space. Go and Sign/Trade for DK Metcalf or Courtland Sutton, Sign Justin Simmons or Stephen Gilmore and Sign Calias Campbell. These additions win the Super Bowl.

First off, we don't know if they have plans of trying to resign him to an extension before the season starts.
Also, we have Warren sharing carries, so maybe they think more highly of Warren than Naj.
Or, they could be thinking that this is a way of motivating him to play his best because he'd be playing for a new contract next year.

I apologize for speaking of Pirate problems but I have been a Pittsburgh fan since 1965 and would catch a street car behind St Anne Elementary School in Castle Shannon to watch Pirates at Forbes Field. We have been trash for 30 years so perhaps others might be sharing my frustrations. The Pirates have now crashed after starting fast. Drafting Henry Davis 1st overall even though he was only a top 10 prospect at best. We were told it was smart to spread the money around. At this point Henry Davis, Jack Suwinski, and O'neil Cruz should be sent to AA instructional league for 3 weeks of hitting and a sports psychologist. Then send all 3 to Indianapolis AAA to regain their form. Bring them back at All Star break. If they still fail release them.

The Najee disrespect is insane. Bringing up the SB RBs but let's bring in some context, yeah Pacheco isn't much of the cap but they also have the great Mahomes, reliable Kelce and a lights out defense. As a general rule, you shouldn't draft any position other than QB ( If you dont have a Franchise one) Tackle, WR, CB and at a push Edge... If you dont have anyone in those positions then trade out.

Najee, for most of his career, averaged under FOUR-yards-per carry!!! Najee was a first round pick. Jaylen Warren averages more and the Steelers got him off the street UNDRAFTED. Now to put this in perspective, Ezekiel Elliot in his prime averaged over 5-yards-per carry. THAT is what a first rounder is supposed to do, even with Matt Canada as the not-do-good offensive coordinator and the inside line troubles. Now, THIS YEAR, with the interior of the line fixed and no more vilified Matt Canada Najee has no excuse. If he averages 5-yards a carry, THEN sign him to an even better deal. It worked for Muscle Hamster Martin a few years ago. They declined his 5-year and he had a great season and got a big contract. Najee needs to do the same. No more excuses for him, or anyone else on that offense now.
    Great show. Thanks, dude.

IMO if Najee hadn't had ran to the press and complained about stuff that was going behind the scenes they would have exercised his option. Look at the guys we brought in. This is the first time I have seen an entire draft class have nothing but high character values. Their past coaches love them. Past teammates. I haven't seen anything but guys who are workers and are selfless according to everyone who has spoken to the press. The one place where it historically has been a thorn for us is the WR room. But I have heard nothing but rave reviews of what a class act Roman Wilson is. I really like how Omar is constructing this team. Not just from a talent standpoint, but also from a maturity one. So when you factor in Najee's words and his is so-so production you can see a picture forming as to why. The only time I can ever remember the team ripping up an extension to sign a multiyear deal because the guy outplayed his contract, was Cam Heyward. I have only seen that done one time. But that was all done very quickly. Could Najee be a second recipient? Maybe, but I doubt it.

It’s honestly a smart move by the Steelers if you actually think about it. Let him prove that he deserves a big contract. If he balls out which I think he will behind our upgraded line the Steelers will pay him what he deserves. If he doesn’t improve or ball out then we’ll let him walk, Jaylen can be rb1 and we can draft a rb round 2 or 3 next year. Also they get to save some money to pay a wr they bring in if they do trade for one. I get why people are upset about this but it’s a smart business move.

If I were Najee Harris I would walk into the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and asked to be traded ASAP and if the report is true about Justin Fields he should do the same. He doesnt have the size to be taking an extra 100 to 150 runs. Theres a higher chance. jaylen starts getting injured the moment his snap count goes up. You dont see small running back be as durable as backs like Henry or Najee or Chubb. Their more prone to getting injured.

We had a 3 headed cancer: Harris, Johnson, and Pickens. The idea was to purge all 3. There will be a trade soon.

Running gaining 1,000 yes is the least a running back can do nothing special especially when teammates didn't vote him a team CAPTAIN

Have one bell cow doesn’t really work good for long term deals in todays NFL because you would wear them down to much and they probably wouldn’t finish their contract vs the money that would need to be spent to retain them.

I never understood why we let Edmund’s go. He was a good player and sines he left minkah’s been stuck filling the hole he left. And can’t play his game.

Hopefully the Steelers r working on a cap friendly deal with Harris so that they can resign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

From a LEVERAGE perspective, Najee is in a bad spot.
If you beef up your OL, you don't need a great back. Add to the fact that its a passing league, that backs can be found later in the draft, that they have short careers (wear and tear) = it all points to backs not being valued highly.
Even if he tests the market, he'll have to decide if the amount gained is worth taking to potentially be on a lesser team?

They are going to give him a contract extension. He's too important to the team to let him walk after 4 years.

    Deke,
You're making this out with Najee to be a lot of things it isn't and likely isn't. As you speak, you make it sound like just because they didn't take the option, he's automatically out for next year. You don't outright say it, but imply it with a lot you say. Secondly and this I don't know absolutely because I don't claim to have any inside knowledge but I do know how the Rooney's have traditionally done business, ESPECIALLY with players that are GOOD FOR THE BRAND, fan favorites. I highly doubt that Najee was completely blindsided with this news. This is the kind of thing an agent is working on. The fact that he was a first round pick as a RB, he's already being paid well on a Rookie deal. I have to wonder if DK is correct, he is reporting that they want to have a new contract for long term by mid summer.
We haven't seen Omar get it wrong yet. Even the players he has let walk. The only one I have argued we should have offered a better offer than we did was Spillaine. And he continued to prove that last year in LV. Outside letting him go, any other players, it has worked out for us. I don't believe that to be the case here but if it happened, the way this off-season has gone. They've got some damn creative script writers this year, hope the season and games match 🤣😂.
