The PGA TOUR returns to the mainland this week for the 65th annual playing of The American Express. This event is the first multi-course event of the season. Justin Thomas will be teeing it up for the first time this year, his first appearance in La Quinta since finishing T7 in 2015. He’ll be looking to replicate the form which saw him claim three-straight top-fives worldwide after missing out on the FedExCup Playoffs. Scottie Scheffler will also be in California this week and has three top-25 results at The American Express in his career highlighted by a solo third in 2020. He also managed a T5 at The Sentry two weeks ago. Min Woo Lee will also like his chances this week in the Coachella Valley as he concluded 2023 as one of the hottest on the planet with a pair of wins worldwide highlighting a stretch of five-straight top-15s. Others to look out for are Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler and Will Zalatoris.

Best thing to happen to the PGATOUR in a long time
That's true 😢
All the best players going to Liv so an amateur can win?
Think you meant since 2019 when Tiger won the Masters!
@@facepalm-td9fb LIV players are soft and gave up their careers for a payday. This is real competition and history right here.
@@stephenlabadie8183 tiger just teeing it up in a tournament this year would be bigger for the PGA than this
Wish the blowup hole was shown. It’s an important part of the round and y’all just omitted it
Agree, without that the game would have been very different.
It really does make the outcome even more impressive. Most pros would have collapsed.
Pro tip: There are other videos on youtube.

@@omission6919 Pro tip: this is showing the highlights from the final round. It belonged here.
Watching him swing in the US Am was just perfection and seeing him here was even better.
Fantastic swing and incredible poise. This kid has a bright future ahead of him in the sport.
Good-looking lad as well. Wouldn't be surprised if he lands some serious sponsor money and gets promoted heavily by the tour. A star might be born,,,
Wish you'd told me that a week ago. How did you know?
@@FrankOBrien-ti7ny I knew after observing what he did in this tournament.
@@NicolasMogensen🌈
He went toe to toe with Justin Thomas and Sam Burns and beat them and a bunch of really good players. In my lifetime of 55 years this ranks up there pretty high with the most impressive things I've ever seen in golf.
How is a birdie fest impressive?
It’s no challenge for them whatsoever
Just target golf.
@@mattsturgess1545go do it then.
@@FirstNameLastName-lu5nr im a spectator and it’s boring to watch.
@@mattsturgess1545 He's an amateur dude so apparently you don't play or know anything about golf. Nobody has won a PGA tour event as an amateur since Mickelson did it around 1990
@@joeldriver-sp2rg it’s not an amateur as we know it , 15 handicapper slapping it about
He’s probably playing off like +5 as a guess
He as good as the rest , he just doesn’t get paid for what he does , because he’s not a pro yet
I’m not disrespecting him , I’m just saying , it’s boring watching a birdie fest.
I think if you can swing a PGA tour event as amateur you should automatically get your tour card. What an amazing accomplishment 😮
I'm pretty sure he will as soon as he turns pro.
invites will coming out of his ears
Amateur status doesn't matter. He gets a full 2 year card + a (roughly) 50% 3rd year card automatically. Even if he never makes a cut, he'll be getting into around half of the events of 2027.
That is exactly how it works, he receives a 2 year exemption
Agree.
JT is getting very media savvy, nice use of hat so know one could lip read when he was talking to Dunlap at the end.
He wanted a golfer from Alabama to win.
Anyone else think he’s already got a call from Greg Norman? 😂
Yes. I'm sure. I really don't like Greg Norman. At all. Sure, he was a great golfer. Not a particularly great guy though.
Anyway, congrats to Dunlap!!!!! So so cool!
The Adidas brigade have him storm trooping in full regalia
Hit the little ball to the amusement of his saudi overlords, what a sad life...
As another said best thing for the PGA tour in a long time!
That really had to be a roller coaster of emotions as it really looked like he was going to fall just short until 17 when Burns hit it in the water and then crumbled on 18. But finding out just prior to that chip on 18 that he only had a 1-stroke cushion and then pulling it off was absolutely clutch. And even after the great chip, had to make a 5-6 footer which normally, not a big deal but in that scenario had to look like it was a 20 footer. Well done young man!
Gives hope for all those who are also amateurs. Next thing you know, I’ll shock the world. I can easily put up 50… over par
Sucks cuz he doesnt even get paid at all since hes an amateur. That $1.5 mil goes to second place Bezuidenhout, he was probably thrilled he didnt have to fight for a playooff lmao. Either way great accomplishment and hes got quite the future. But like come on if you win you should get the prize regardless you still beat everyone fair and square.
The winner if he’s an amateur doesn’t even get prize money for PGA tournament .No wonder it’s the same names year after year.
20 years old w/ laser focus, titanium balls and nerves of steel. Job well done!
-Max
not an alt-field event even. he had pretty much the entire presidents cup (both sides) in his rear view mirror and in position to run him down, and still got it done. ive never seen anything like this.
The PGA tour has competition coming 👍👍👍😎
That's because everyone's fooked off!!
Best Amex tournament I have ever watched!!!! Way to go brother!!!!🎉
PGA and LIV need to come to terms for the sake of golf. With much less competition and seeing the same names over and over gets boring because of the divided talents. Wouldn't be surprised if the actual viewership numbers has taken a nosedive. Sigh...
I can’t wait for golf digest to post a video about his swing
quiet hands... square at the takeaway... fantastic club delivery... wonderful finish 😂😂😂😂 insert all other overused descriptors
His Dad still has 21 subscribers, and posted this video of Nick 12 years ago:

Shame that Dunlap couldn't keep any of his prize money, but if he were to turn pro this year would he still get to keep his two-year exemption for winning a PGA Tour event?
This is incredible and inspiring
he has a nice compact swing. I think he's going to win a lot of tournaments.
the pure iron sound is just a music to my ears. Someone needs to make the pure iron sound a ring tone.
😂good idea 💡
PGA snooze fest. The best players have gone to LIV.
What a moment we had the privilege to witness live. One thing I always preach to my juniors is that in the end golf is all about character, and now I can talk about this young man's performance as Exhibit A!
So cruel to not be awarded the prize money but I guess the rules are the rules...
I am glad that his mom and dad made it to the tournament. They got to watch their son make great history with his win on the PGA tour This was fun to watch and I am watching the ending again~! Shalom
Looks like the product of a Justin Rose and Colin Morikawa baby
Does being an amateur mean he doesn't get paid a cent? Does his money go to second place?
Yes
I want to see kevin yu bro stop skipping him plz
27 under on the final round 😂
The reason why I don’t watch PGA tour 😂😂😂
-27 over four days
@@Troy-fv9uq yeah it’s a boring birdie fest 😴
Now go join LIV and make some real money!
I thought LIV had had all the has-beens. It's mighty funny that we have an amateur win a PGAT event. 🙉
Shhhhh don’t make them mad
Apparently when an amateur wins a part of the purse it is distributed among the rest of the field. In this case the second place players would get winning money? That seems weird to me, it should go to charity or back to the sponsor.
If JT had come in second im sure he wouldve given Nick some $$
@@markstewart7312 and with the new college rules now he cant get in trouble taking it
When most of us look back at our early 20’s it’s the absurd confidence that stick out to me. The world hasn’t yet beat you down and the potential for anything still exists.
Way to go, kid!
Life changing stuff right here!
Congrats, Nick.
You don't really make it until you play with the Good Good Boys. Stay tuned...
This just shows how backwards the pga tour is. When amateurs win they don’t receive the prize money and it goes to second place. What an absolute joke
Theoretically, someone who did a university course to become a professional could get more than an amateur winner.
The PGA tour gives him the break, the opportunity and the framework to make his way in the elite game. Watch and wait for LIV to circle though. The way this young man reacts to winning and NOT taking home the winners cheque says everything about what golf is and should be.
Amateur win pitch and putt. Tells you how hard the PGA sets up the courses
That's gonna be remembered for years, great performance!
Unfortunately he is an amateur so that $1,500,000 check goes to second place but very impressive nonetheless
Boy the pga will Dunlap this up
I wanna hear the interview.
Going to be a great addition to LIV!👍🏼
Only one driver swing?? 😂 so sick though
Don't leave home without that guy.
WOW!
Looks like a very humble kid who works hard at his craft
due to the best players dont play on the PGA tour anymore they are on the Liv tour, go figure...............
Is the world shocked? america might be, but I'm sitting here this morning in Britain and I just feel happy for the fellow.
i mean I'm also in Britain and I guess shocked is a bit overused in today's world of sensationalism however looking at his pre tournament winning odds (400/1).. it's a fairly shocking result.
When Mickelson won while attending ASU in 1991 I couldn't believe it possible. This proves anything is possible.
Scott Verplank won the Western Open in 1985 while attending OSU. Were you unaware of that fact in 1991?
He really has an incredibly smooth swing
Is this Scott Dunlap’s kid? What a player!
No, it isn't Scott Dunlap's kid.
Now he's gotta go back to carrying his own bag!
Great future ahead for this young man!!
I'd tell em, Amateur Spamateur where's my check?
Perfect time to join LIV Golf.
Watching the emotion pour over the kid at the end…look on his face was “did I really just do that?”
Shows how in the moment he was the whole round, incredible to watch.
Now I ask. Do you want to watch a bunch of overpaid contract players who can NEVER miss a cut, OR do you want the best player of that week, an amateur doing the impossible?
Wow!
-20s everywhere... must've been a tough course..
..
Dunlap's performance was amazing but as a neutral I must point out that NO achievement on the PGA & DP tours has merit anymore for me. only majors where LIV is allowed (wrongly) twisted view but echoed by many fans
Every player in the top 10 of that tournament who doesn’t wire him at least half the difference of what more they made because he’s an Am… is a p.o.s. I guarantee you JT is gonna write that kid a cheque, as they all should. Stupidest rule in pro sports ever. If Ams are allowed to play the same draw, they should be allowed to get paid something big if they T10, ESPECIALLY if they WIN.
Love his golf swing. Great win.
"BEST TOUR PLAYERS GO TO LIV" ONLY 7TH AMATEUR EVER TO WIN. Hmmm weird NOT
I just hated when S. Burns started to entertain a conversation with Dunlap on the 11 th hole …..Pro tactic to get the young amateur out of focus….he made to bad shots immediately after but recuperate well thereafter….instant karma when on Burns …he shot twice his ball to the beach with two bad shots and lost the tournament …just compare Thomas attitude he spoke with Dunlap ONLY on the final walk to the 18th green …..a gentleman stays a gentleman bravo Dunlap and Thomas .
Great win but poor video, no storytelling, it just a random collection of shots, very lazy editing
Doesn't look like a driver there at the beginning, yet the figures say 275 yd carry.
Don’t change your swing! Don’t even think about it.
Say what you may about LIV, but it has free up space for many other players to be PGA superstars. It's been great.
Did he get any winnings for this, or because he’s an amateur he doesn’t get anything?
Loved watching him taking over at last 3 holes especially. I am pretty damn sure this experience will be his biggest asset for his golf professional career to come!
Amazing play by the young man. And can we just all take time to appreciate JT. Taking the time to make sure Nick is able to calm down, finish and then relish in this amazing accomplishment. Love to see it!
What sucks is an amateur can't take the prize money...even though he smashed them!
Why would people use “kid” ? come on, respect please.
I heard his putting has been fantastic for the past year and a half. Too bad they didn't show his putting.
I mean, what da hale happened to sammy burns, I guess he got burned.
While a great win for this young man we are starting to see The LIV effect on the PGA depth and talent pool
This is awesome
very nice win, but it would have been okay to show the 7th hole and a few of the putts he missed. The guy is human but the video didn't want to show it.
What happens with the prize money cause as an amateur I believe he is forced to turn it down
Final Round - Amateur in the hunt. Where are the fans?
Anyone know if he is Scott's Son?????
That’s what I was wondering. I’m guessing he must be.
@@joshgarbemusic he isn't Scott Dunlap's son. Nick's father was there and his name is Jim.
Refreshing. Well done sir
Dunlap making the Ryder cup team
Elite ball striking from the young man. Can set his tempo to a metronome. Congratulations Mr. Dunlap!
definition of a pure ball striker
Sport is so boring football and nba run this world.
it would be sweet if all the others that collected his money gave it back to him as a gift, then he could legally collect it lol
Can’t see this on the LIV minor leagues
Good ole, home-schooled boy from Alabama.
Does his caddie get to take any money home?
Inspirational. Good for him
This guy was +250000 to win omg
All the golfers went to LIV🤣🤣
God his ball striking is so clean, congrats on the win 🥇
Would he have won if there was no LIV Golf and all the top 50 players were playing in this tournament??? Probably not.. but a win is a win on PGA Tour.. Can't wait to see him play more against top players.. Winning after shooting a 70 won't work all the time...
Only in golf can you win something and have to give away your prize money due to your status. Must not need the money that bad.
That was magical
Nick to join LIV next week!!!!
