  • In this video, Ernst Wilhelm discusses the multiple ways to calculate the D10 (the Dasamsa) and the reason for each calculation. We also talk about the use of vargas (divisional charts or harmonic charts) to make better predictions with transits.

    Thanks for referencing me Ryan. Ernst and I have discussed many fascinating astrological ideas over the last couple of years. But here I need to point out though that it is the research of astrologer Rok Koritnik that really opened my eyes to the difference between parivritti and irregular varga theory. Also the connection between the parivritti drekkana and the navamsa came through his research, which then resulted in Ernst programming the parivritti drekkana for the Yogada calculations in Kala.

    I enjoy and learn so much from each video on this Channel and Ernst as well.
    I do have a question that it has me feeling confused. What is the difference between Vedic Astrology and Vedic Tropical astrology?
    I got a chart from a Vedic Astrologer and my Ascendant based on that chart showed to be Capricorn. However, when I use the website in this channel to calculate my birth chart, Aquarius shows as my ascendant. I would love if you had the time to explain what the difference is or which one I should be following. I would also be very interested in a reading if you are offering these.
    Thank you so much for your time and for all the work you do.

    As a quick clarification, judging the transits in a varga: Say Saturn is in Pisces in the sky, we look at Pisces in each Varga to see how Saturn is affecting that varga? Thank you Ryan and Ernst!

    • @RyansVedicAstrology
      @RyansVedicAstrology  6 месяцев назад +1

      Almost. If you make a chart for THIS moment (with Saturn in Pisces), then look at the vargas from THAT chart of this moment. It will tell you what Saturn is doing by transit in EACH varga.

      There is generally a lack of empirical research in astrology. Myself and a few friends of mine have put many of the ancient techniques and concepts (both Western and Indian) to test and I can say without any reservation that a lot of them don't work, no matter how hard we try. A lot of ancient astrology is mostly theory. Just try Jaimini's svamsha techniques with both tropical and sidereal Zodiacs. Most of them don't work at all no matter which concept of svamsha we use. Just poor techniques with below 45% of accuracy.
      But, there is some stuff that works really, really well. It's just that we need to distil the stuff from the old texts, use what works and expand on it. Also, expanding horizon by studying ancient western astrology and also some modern ideas is beneficial.
      As an astrology skeptic who practices astrology I say to myself many times: "What if it's all bullshit?" But then astrology finds its way to surprise and amaze me. There's more to it than study from a text or a teacher. It requires inner commitment and deep contemplation of fundamental principles, plus, finding the techniques that resonate with you, techniques you're able to wield effectively, because you really understand them. Also, without a systematic approach there will be no repeatability and reliability. One needs a system and this is especially true for the vargas. Most astrologers use vargas in a chaotic, haphazard way. Most modern jyotish theory on vargas is rubbish. Most modern jyotish which unnaturally puts together Jaimini, Parashari and Varahamihira's (Yavana style) jyotish has no order and is more chaotic than western modern astrology is. It's just one big mess and no wonder it comes out as just theory. Even a poor one.
      Nowadays I only take seriously astrological research based on empiricism, which means testing techniques on lots of charts, systematically with obligatory test for false positives.

      What makes me sad about this comment is that astrology has gone over so many people’s head, just like religion. I mean, I understand, it is our egos desire to control our lives and to feel prepared for the worst- but the truth is that the zodiacs and its planets were designed to hold the human evolution. Hence even the word “Grahas”. The universe is a “story” that writes itself every day.
      Jyotish- Science of Light.
      As in “matter”.
      Mater- mother ;)
      It’s a “language”.
      Of “Time”.
