    Great list! There must be something special about the 130+ proof JD Coy hills, because my 126 proof just couldn't match RR15. That said, my number one non-finished bourbon of 2024 was Bookers the Reserves. Blinded it against a bunch of LE's and it just had that special something that pushed it out on top. Also, it was only $130! I haven't side-by-sided it against 211 month Hardin's Creek, so don't know which I'd prefer. BtR was attainable on local release (in MD). That said, nothing this year matched that Rive Roots Port finished Bourbon hazmat Seelbachs pick #1 that came out in December 2023. But that bottle was a fluke and is now long gone, replaced by a far inferior pick.
    Anyways, looking forward to more reviews in the new year.

    • @bourbonbill
      @bourbonbill  Месяц назад +1

      I do think the coy hills vary I had sampled a lower proof one and it was oakier but less complex so I can see how that might differ. And sadly Pa sold out quick of bookers reserves and didn’t get a bottle and haven’t tried it either. I heard that river roots port bottle was a monster but haven’t tried it

    I've been keeping track of where RR15 has been winding up in the end-of-the-year rankings. Mostly I've focused on blinds because I have more trust in those. Chad and Sara Night just came out with their Best Of blind. They said that -- prior to doing the blind -- Chad had expected his #1 would be either RR15 or Heaven Hill 18 and Sara had expected her #1 would be either RR15 or Eagle Rare 17. You know where RR15 finished in their Top 10? At *#6* !

    • @bourbonbill

    Guessed all the top 3, just had RR15 in 2nd place..
    Got the RR10 ME17 & it tastes similar to my RR SiB Pick if it were at a lower proof & filtered.
    10yr is older than almost all of the RR private selections, but the added water & chill filtering hurt it.
    For $10 more, they could bottle it at 110P & NCF & make more money per bottle sold. But they don't, because it would hurt the sales of the Private barrels at $90+ & LEs like single rickhouse, RR13 & 15yr.

    • @bourbonbill
      @bourbonbill  Месяц назад +2

    • @motohead077
      @motohead077 Месяц назад +1

      @bourbonbill Interesesting. Yes I remember in your 1st vid review of the 10yr, you saying it was 80% of the experience of the RR15.
      Have not had any of the RR13, 15 or much of any higher end WT, just the 110P SiB Picks & RR10yr ME17. Both of those are considerably better than the 2024 Rare Breed, for me.

    • @motohead077
      @motohead077 Месяц назад

      @bourbonbill Oh. you could find out for sure, by taking a small amount of 15yr & cutting it to 90P, then blinding it with the 10yr ME20. Though, I doubt you'd want to do that, hah.
      Would need some accurate measuring devices & some serious compute-compute power to get that right.

      @@bourbonbill It seems so. If anyone has both, I believe them.
      Only had a 2/2024 RB batch myself & probably not even as good as 10/2017 WT 101. Not buying another RB unless find a 2020 or older batch at $50 max or the 1L NCF version.
      Know from experience that standard WT 101 took a huge dive. Don't know the exact dates, but can tell you the 10/17/2017 bottle of 101 is great & anything before it.
      The 1-20-2021 batch (same old label as 2017) to present, is half as good, at best. It can have nutty notes & harshness that never get on the 2017.
      Tried multiple bottles of the new/current label from 2022, '23 & '24 & all taste the same as the 2021 old label juice.
      So sometime between 10/2017 & 1-2021 & before they went to the new/current label, is when they changed the juice for the worse.
      WT held on longer than Knob & Elijah. They both started the lower quality in 2016 by dropping the 9 & 12yr age for core bottles.
      But when I found WT 101 1.75L $29.99 in 2024, it's worth it at that price.

    It's a shame that people are paying no attention to the JW 211, likely due to being out too late for 2023 lists and technically being not a 2024 release. I agree with your top ranking--GTS and RR15 rounded out my top three bourbons I own this year, but JW 211 was a runaway clear first place. I don’t know for sure but it’s odd to me how the top whiskeys of the year always include middle of the road offerings that most whiskey drinkers would say are good but no where near great
