Probably just a double octave effect (one octave lower and also one higher) and either a Fuzz or an Overdrive. The key is to also have a clean Bass signal behind everything so you don't lose too much low end. So if you did this live you might need two amps and a splitter. I recorded to pro tools so I was able to record to two tracks at once, one with the effect and one clean.

The 'unplugged' version is tuned down a 1/2 step. The 'Nevermind' version is tuned down a whole step. :)

The Bass is tuned down one whole step to (D,G,C,A). Then play on 3rd and 4th strings at frets 7, 8 and 9. :)
