I can only use 3 rods, so I normally throw out 2 set rods, and I have a few rods for artificial baits. I like to catch my own bait. I'm a bank fisherman. I have not had luck using shrimp. I know it works because I have had people around me using shrimp and landing cats. It was odd. I quit using the shrimp and went to cut Bluegill and started catching fish. People next to me were still landing fish from shrimp. We were sharing the bag of shrimp... odd . Great video!
I went fishing with a coworker years ago at a local lake. We were fishing for a while and I had caught a couple of blues and he hadn’t caught anything yet. He asked what I was using for bait and I told him I was using shrimp. He said he didn’t think shrimp would work because they aren’t native to our waters. I asked him what he was using and he said chicken livers 💀.
I couldn't find any shad so I grabbed hotdogs kool-aid and mixed them with garlic powder and caught my limit. To my surprise the cats were going crazy for it
Had one the other night in 23ft water on chicken with lemon jello (was out of cherry/strawberry and was going fishing lol), absolutely folded my rod! Sadly apparently there was a tree or coverage down there because he wrapped me around something and snapped my lead line... Only bite of the night, spawning season is rough, but nothing like sitting on a river bank under the stars! I have learned so much from this channel.
I have a big bag of raw shrimp split into bags of eight right now in my freezer. The problem i have is that the wind is gusting and giant waves are crashing the shoreline where id like to fish Plus i just got back home from vacation and none is thawed out. I havent checked the weather for the morning i may just pull a bag out.
I got a double over the weekend, had a bass on one rod and a catfish on the other In the same spot. They actually tangled up the two lines and I ended up reeling them in at the same time.
I live about as far from the ocean as you canbe in the USA, yet shrimp (raw unpeeled works best) is a top producer for not only cats, but big bass, at our local lake. In smaller ponds, liver works good, worms work almost everywhere, and live bluegills work especially well for Flatheads..
Thanks for bringing us along on the latest adventure! I usually have chicken, shad and perch out trolling for blues...never tried shrimp...that will change next time at the lake! Thanks!
When I use shrimp in my local body of water (tributary to the Potomac), all I catch is alligator snapping turtles (no fun!). Whereas when I use cut bait (chunks of fish) I get a lot of blue cats (a lot of fun!).
Question for catfishers. I have 3 or 4, decades old white Ugli-Stick rods. They are more flexible and better than the current models. All of them are for spinning reels. I now use baitcasters on my current rods. Is there any way to remove the guides beneath the tip and replace them with baitcaster guides, glued or clamped in place by me?
I was thinking of getting one of those big car fever rods but after they uped the price and after using the mad Kats rods I have to say the mad kats are just a better deal
Great video Dieter!! Absolutely Shrimp is awesome Catfish bait!! Here in Central Indiana my local grocery has sales on Shrimp when sale by time is up, my Buddies and I will buy a pound or pound and a half to use, the trick is to let them set out for a couple of hours before going fishing so they build up a little stink, we've slayed channel cat with it, Turtles too!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dieter, would you make a video on how you tell blue from channel?? Most of the time i have no problem, but every once in a while i get one that I'm not sure.
You can tell the difference between the two by the anal fin... Channels are more rounded where Blues is more flat... They have more rays on the fin as well... Dieter will confirm it... watch and see... if not, Google it... Good Luck
Could you check out the mad katz xalt 6550 im curious about them like if they can actually cast far i fish off the bank and i really don't want to buy another catfish pro they cost way to much lol
It’s funny, sometimes it doesn’t matter where I cast, that one rod will get all of the business while the others might as well not even be in the water.
I have seen guys go fishing for eater size cats using shrimp. I believe it would have been cheaper and a better use of time to just go buy some catfish fillets.
Every catfisherman needs some sewing thread in their tackle box. If you're having trouble keeping something like shrimp, hot dogs, livers, dough baits, etc. on the hook, just wrap with some thread
@@Aaron-jk5nn tubular gauze is actually best, make little sacs before hitting the water. Just grab a sac and throw on a circle hook. Spawn netting works well too
I was waiting for this comment which I've seen a thousand times, lol. Shrimp is one of the most popular saltwater baits, it definitely works in fresh water too
The beauty of catfish, is you can catch them on almost anything. Shrimp is a very good bait for sure!👍
Yup for sure,as a recreational cat fisherman

That’s how it is in some seasons in lakes but are you allowed to fish with all the rods you want in river all year long Where I’m at

Ive used shrimp in iowas small streams for years, at certain times theyre awesome. Theyre always worth trying

My biggest fish (14lb channel) was caught on frozen Walmart brand shrimp soaked in coolaid. That stuff works great.
I love those Piscifun Chaos XS Baitcasting Reels. That's all I use on my catfish rods now. I now have a box full of unused Ambassadors lol.
Works good on saltwater catfish for sure. Never tried it in freshwater. Kept getting hard heads this weekend on both types of bait I threw
I got a double over the weekend, had a bass on one rod and a catfish on the other In the same spot. They actually tangled up the two lines and I ended up reeling them in at the same time.
Shrimp is a favorite bait for many different fish in both fresh and salt water.

Ordered two of those piscifun reels and absolutely love them got the 40 and the 50 I bank cast and they're my best casting reels I have
Love the videos. I appreciate how you go out trying things and not trying to make “your way” work
It's always fun to play around

Love catfishing in MN.wish they were bigger
Great seeing you back on the water.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
In the 80s we would use night crawlers and the frozen shrimp 🍤 think the worms worked better but we would catch them on shrimp for sure.

I think they think it’s a crayfish tail…I use pieces for perch and bluegill they hammer it..also caught bass on shrimp also

I have good luck with shrimp in brown water in rocky areas. Thanks for another good one.
Great video Dieter!! Absolutely

Hey Dieter. How do you hook on fresh frozen head on shrimp? Headed out in the morning and I want a fair comparison with chicken.
great video thanks for all the useful info hope your doing well have a great day
Great video and information what about grass shrimp

That’s for sure!! Out of 4 usually 1 handles all the business

Where I live you can fill a cooler full of cats with a $5 bag of frozen shrimp 😅
@@mikecollins8241 that is cheap. I bet you could get discounted on some that was about to expire too.
What is that rig you are using???
What about using whole shrimp? More scent with the entire body and guts.
How come we never see you use the hellcat rods
Dude, I think I just passed you in Virginia. On I-77
Oh!!! It was you! 😆
They’ve been tearing up shrimp where I live
Ever used squid?
Only in saltwater

the old sewing thread trick!
Use pantyhose.... works better than sewing thread!

Why not learn how to tie a Egg Loop Knot? Then you pull line through the eyelet, wrap around bait, and then pull the slack through...easy peezy
@@goodymob9638 thread works better
Peel them it works better.
Noticed you are not fishing out of your LUND boat
She is down for maintenance....you must watch a lot!
You will catch a lot of eaters with shrimp.
and some teeners and 20's....
I don't know how much shrimp cost but I rather eat the shrimp them use it as bait shrimp taste better than fish does lol

A pound is about the same as a dozen shad....
Everything eats and likes chicken
What about shrimp in the kool-aid??
Definitely something to the strawberry kool aid
Thats on my list to try!!
Catfish are ruining our NC lakes. Sad
Catfish been in these lakes longer than probably any of the other species they evolved a lot longer ago
