So much virtuosity overflowed that the first row can now play the violin too
youtube comments never cease disappoint me :D
plot twist: the first row comprises an already splendid congregation of acclaimed violinists who decided to see for themselves the mad virtuosity of Roman Kim
I love the liberties he takes, it's so free spirited. It's pretty awesome to see someone do what they want unapologetically in this very judgemental world. Good luck on your future endeavors, Roman!
I mean who's gonna stop him💀
@@samgaccione1516 Oh, I didn't think that was a question at all, I don't remember bringing it up. You make a good point... no one, I guess? Maybe ourselves, sometimes we can get in our own heads - be our own worst enemy. Good luck to you and your musical exploration
he made sarasate sound like a beginner mozart warmup. he's a genius
Brilliant. seriously. one of the best interpretations i've heard.
Modern day Paganini. A true phenomenon. The whole world needs to witness this genius.
This man is a phenomenon, and I agree, he should be world famous in all the great concert halls and with all the best recording companies. Roman Kim is a true example that the greatest are very often overlooked. And, he certainly belongs amongst the greatest we have playing today,,, perhaps even since Paganini himself! Could he be a re-incarnation??
Maybe. He composes like Paganini. I’ve listened to fiddle players for most of my life, and I’ve only known about him for the last couple of weeks, because of RUclips.
Nobody like him is popular because people would rather listen to junk.
This has to be my favorite version of this song! Roman Kim’s musicality is insane!
All gifted with the ability to skillfully discern that Roman Kim and his gift to perform, compose, and master the art of the all encompassing challenges of a violin agree on one thing as fact. That fact is, Roman Kim is one of the few rare gifts more than adequate to consider a historical genius contribution to the art of music and the violin specifically. My question is, are there any people reading this who know him and can explain why his name, his history and his career is not a world wide leader in music today and touring with the greatest orchestras, making recordings and with a great label? This is beyond me!
Because he chose a different creative path from his contemporaries but one that will ultimately lead him to a historically great and immortal figure and recognition. You can hear from Roman directly what he is all about in this interview m.ruclips.net/video/f8bZWV-XGTo/видео.html
And frankly people like Roman really scare his performing contemporaries but excite other non-performing musicians. He's bad for overall business.
Aside from composing new and unique original music, and perfecting his technical facility, he also uncovered a new violin technique 'forced harmonics' or 'Roman Kim harmonics' that make notes ring crystal-clear like a wind/flute and allow you to play scales faster than regular way (due to the fact that burden shifts from pressing strings to bowing, allowing you to press notes lighter):
1. demo m.ruclips.net/video/tAJaz4v1jZQ/видео.html
2. lesson m.ruclips.net/video/gQhQ06kXt0g/видео.html
This feat alone points to his dedication to his craft and his genius to be able to discover and perfect something new on an instrument that's hundreds of years old and that has had many great masters in its rich history.
I totally agree, the MOST UNDERRATED violinist.
@logiotek's answer to your question - namely "Because he chose a different creative path from his contemporaries" - is entirely false.
The simple correct answer is that the powers that be have thought that the best of Roman's contemporaries perform standard works in the repertoire better than he does.
(As for the complicated correct answer, I don't know. I rarely listen to e.g. Ray Chen, Bomsori Kim and others of his generation.)
I think it’s because the media shoves junk down our throats, we’re ok with it, so we don’t bother seeking out the best musicians.
Oh my God. I cannot even grasp how he has developed such control of both right and left hands. And perfect, clear intonation. He is remarkable.
Yes Praise the Lord
Not good enough, Roman doesn’t need an accompanist, he should be able to play both the solo and accompaniment like when he played mozart quartet as a solo.
Jk, this is such a beautiful performance
This man is MAGICIAN. He has put the bar up in the STRATOSPHERE.
Play “Navarra For Two Violins“ on one violin
hahahaa he really should do this!
Please don't even say this. I know for sure this man would do that if he saw you comment.
BRAVO!! He reminds me a little bit of Li Chuan Yun, bringing their own interpretation and imagination to these pieces and adding a nice bit of personal touch to them.
I absolutely love his performances, Roman is similarly on another level with violin, but it’s so high that most will never even see the height of it!
But much better
Soloist: I play the piece well.
Roman Kim: Too easy, let me first add a bunch of double stops, harmonics, scales and arpeggios.
So unique and so brilliant ! Certain people see things and say: why?
But others dream about things which have never existed and say: why not? Thanks Roman Kim
Great job, Roman and Jure! I love the "off the script" extras you pulled off so well. I think Sarasate would have enjoyed the upcomposition himself! This ladies and gents is one way to make it your own. Bravo.
One of the most solid left hands for sure
Невероятно одаренный скрипач! Музыкант от Бога!
I like how it's not a "to the letter" performance. I've been listening to other recordings of Zigeunerweisen but this one takes me to another place entirely.
You are definitely a Genius, your control of the violin is total!
Congratulations for your playing really really good!
And thanks for sharing!!!
What a great interpretation! I love the Hungarian-Eastern European sound.
it's playing with a real gypsy heart.
Incredible technique and musicality - a true virtuoso.
The more I listen to, the more it's fascinating to hear his improvisation.
This piece is beautifully emotional I’ve heard a lot of violinist playing it but your version is far the best, really going deep to my feelings, every time I hear you playing remember me why I started play violin.
I wish you would post more! Everything you put out blows my mind
Same, he just kicks all expectations off the rail. One upload at a time.
Really gypsy and very creative in his way!!He is a outsider of the violin...
You guys shouldn't compare Kim to other Violinist, He's unique! one of a kind... the only one I dare to compare to Paganini.
Your first and second statements contradict.
@@stacia6678 no they don’t. He is saying to “you guys” that they shouldn’t compare Kim to other “Violinist”, not that *he* should not
@@andrewanderson3016 Well that's horrible logic then.
@@stacia6678 paganini is not a violinist, he is THE violinist
I assume you have heard Paganini in person to be able to compare both. I imagine you must be quite elderly, you have my respect and admiration.
I think this is the first time I've seen a page turner take a bow!
Neil Uk he is actually one of the best page turners of this century
made my day
I actually have seen the page turner bow once before. I was so horrified I blocked it out of memory until now. But at least this one is the best of the century.
Damn. It's so much cringe I feel sorry for him
Maybe his brain got fried by Roman's playing
That has got to be the most clean left hand pizz part at the end of this piece.
Gypsy all the way, creative, imaginative, risky, unique. I am so sad I missed your performance in Portugal. I live 15 minutes from Guimaraes, in BRAGA. I just did not see the advertisement. You are keeping alive the tradition of violinist composers such as Kreisler and Ysaie.
Everlasting respect to this genius
Magnifique !!! Merci !😍
Enjoyed the different way of playing the well known piece.
Roman : why do I have to wait so long for another recital of yours ? you'r a GENIUS.... !!
Freestyling around the notes like there's no tomorrow, leaving the puny sheet music far behind, now that's gypsy violin.
the sheet music is good tooooooo
Это какая то яркая история целой жизни....как такое возможно, невероятно! Браво! .
You are such a perfect couple of perfect musicians! You made my day with this beautiful astonishing rendering. You both and together (timing) do things that I would think impossible.
I lovee the extra gypsy parts in it
Amazing!!!
I loved the improvisations. Great work!!! Bravo!!
Normally music (for me at least) is something I put in the background, so I can listen to it while doing other stuff. Not your music though. Yours has to be listened and carefully watched. You never cease to amaze
I got goosebumps, hearing this...I lost all my words...
This is very good - recording standard. Let's have a CD! I'd buy it.
The best! Love this performance
Incredible virtuoso
grandissimo!
Es el mejor, es increíblemente virtuoso, es una de las mejores versiones, tal vez la mejor de todas
7:30 - 8:06 did not expect that 😳

Wow!!! Excellent! He added quite a few extra ornaments when playing this piece, especially in the slow muted part in the middle. And I liked that “blue” note at 5:36
Genius.
The ending was insane
AL DOILEA PAGANINI, fara exagerare !
Un adevarat FENOMEN . No coment.
Excellent !!!!
simply amazing
just amazing
Beautifull. Fantastic.
I tot IT from twoo set violons.
Wow the staccato. you make all violinist jealous.
And adding more Gypsy style is maling Sarasate wish he did IT.
Beautiful ~ so excited to see a new video of yours on youtube!
Isso é incrível ,muito lindo mesmo !
Amazing ! Thanks :)
Every millimeter he shifts, he juices every little bit to create such a succulent slide… mmmm
7:32
How many times do I have to listen to this...
Romy, everything you do is outstanding!
Now its really gypsian. Sarasate would embrace your extra personal ornaments 😉
Sencillamente I n c r e i b l e ! ! !
B r a v o !
Such a performance would not have been possible without Heifetz in the last century. JH would have admired Romakim's staccato. Piano should be on half-stick.
Why not? Roman has a unique background and superior timeless skills, referencing him to an old school, and hevilly promoted violinist is a bit presumptuous. If you look at the current top concert musicians, you will find hardly the ethnicity that once dominated, artificially, the concert halls.
Yes, this version of Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs in English) contains improvisational elements, but the "Gypsy style" (see Wikipedia) is improvisational Further, Kim adds a Gypsy sound quality in places like 7:31. This is as natural for Romani music as ornaments are for baroque music. Listen to any of the performances on RUclips by violinist Roby Lakatos. I like Kim's version, but I respect those who prefer it "a la" Sarasate: ruclips.net/video/ABm7nMVyNh4/видео.html
Hi, mr. Kim! Thank you for your recordings in the youtube? When we'll hear your new works for violin? really wait for them. Good luck!
Once again incredible ! When I ear a masterpiece that you plays I would like to ear all the others masterpieces played by you like Lalo, plenty of Paganini, others Sarasate, Ernst, great concertos: Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Sibelius Shostakovitch ... When do you do any disc?
When did he plat ernst?
My mind can't take this it's simply too much to handle WOW!!!!!!
FELICITĂRI 👍👍👍
BRAVO!! WOW
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💣💥
bravíssimo romam kim, more would magnificent with the orchestra.
He jazzed it up compared to others or I should say Rubatoed it up. Kinda fun sounding, and yes it’s obviously a piece of cake for him!🎂❤️🎻
Bravooo Roman!!! That should be called "Gezalius Airs"
insuperabile
Why he is so awesome?????
what are you?
7:15 my favorite part
🙏🏽
The closet to Heifetz and Paganini. Those are my top 3. No debate. Heifetz is my GOAT.
A brand-new fiddle, too.
Roman Kim designed his own, including fingerboard, bridge, and strings
Such control...ughh jealous
Check out Rusanda Panfili's interpretation of this piece.
She's plays it very well and clearly. A bit on the conservative side compared to Roman's interpretation though.
Not to deny his effortlessly diabolic speed and fingers dexterity but am I the only one who prefers Perlmann's version? He really touches my heart and I think his treble is ...don't know how to put it...Maybe m old fashioned😕
trevaniansify : I understand you perfectly. I do! But why not just think of them as your children, and say, as a parent would: I love them both very differently and very equally. :-)
I agree. Personally I prefer Heifetz' version but Perlman is also good. I think this performance here is a bit too much, too eager to impress. When you listen to Heifetz or Perlman you don't really notice that it's a showpiece, here however the virtuosity seems to be more important than the music itself. Sometimes less really is more.
I think his virtuosic approach adds to the first and ending part in a nice and unique way, and in the middle slow beautiful part subtracts. Nothing still beats Pearlmann let’s be honest

He should transform those glasses in some kind of upper mask (the kind the nobles used during balls)
That ending tho.
Just when you know the piece... 7:41
I didn't personally like the change. It felt out of character. Everything else was nice though -- hearing entire passages converted to his trademark forced harmonics was really neat, but for some reason they didn't seem to speak properly in this performance.
@@Musicrafter12 Yeah, his forced harmonics are something else. It's pretty outstanding to hear even though they didn't speak the best, but then again, he was playing sautille really quickly while trying to play his forced harmonics. Amazing nonetheless
No tripod? Why the mask over the lens?
The other Paganini!

For Roman yea it's like a warm-up
