    This man is a phenomenon, and I agree, he should be world famous in all the great concert halls and with all the best recording companies. Roman Kim is a true example that the greatest are very often overlooked. And, he certainly belongs amongst the greatest we have playing today,,, perhaps even since Paganini himself! Could he be a re-incarnation??

    • @nickiemcnichols5397
      @nickiemcnichols5397 9 месяцев назад

      Maybe. He composes like Paganini. I’ve listened to fiddle players for most of my life, and I’ve only known about him for the last couple of weeks, because of RUclips.
      Nobody like him is popular because people would rather listen to junk.

  • @johnolsen611
    @johnolsen611 3 года назад +66

    All gifted with the ability to skillfully discern that Roman Kim and his gift to perform, compose, and master the art of the all encompassing challenges of a violin agree on one thing as fact. That fact is, Roman Kim is one of the few rare gifts more than adequate to consider a historical genius contribution to the art of music and the violin specifically. My question is, are there any people reading this who know him and can explain why his name, his history and his career is not a world wide leader in music today and touring with the greatest orchestras, making recordings and with a great label? This is beyond me!

    • @LogioTek
      @LogioTek 3 года назад +4

      Because he chose a different creative path from his contemporaries but one that will ultimately lead him to a historically great and immortal figure and recognition. You can hear from Roman directly what he is all about in this interview m.ruclips.net/video/f8bZWV-XGTo/видео.html
      And frankly people like Roman really scare his performing contemporaries but excite other non-performing musicians. He's bad for overall business.
      Aside from composing new and unique original music, and perfecting his technical facility, he also uncovered a new violin technique 'forced harmonics' or 'Roman Kim harmonics' that make notes ring crystal-clear like a wind/flute and allow you to play scales faster than regular way (due to the fact that burden shifts from pressing strings to bowing, allowing you to press notes lighter):
      1. demo m.ruclips.net/video/tAJaz4v1jZQ/видео.html
      2. lesson m.ruclips.net/video/gQhQ06kXt0g/видео.html
      This feat alone points to his dedication to his craft and his genius to be able to discover and perfect something new on an instrument that's hundreds of years old and that has had many great masters in its rich history.

      @jackburgess8579 Год назад

      @logiotek's answer to your question - namely "Because he chose a different creative path from his contemporaries" - is entirely false.
      The simple correct answer is that the powers that be have thought that the best of Roman's contemporaries perform standard works in the repertoire better than he does.
      (As for the complicated correct answer, I don't know. I rarely listen to e.g. Ray Chen, Bomsori Kim and others of his generation.)

      Why not? Roman has a unique background and superior timeless skills, referencing him to an old school, and hevilly promoted violinist is a bit presumptuous. If you look at the current top concert musicians, you will find hardly the ethnicity that once dominated, artificially, the concert halls.

    Yes, this version of Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs in English) contains improvisational elements, but the "Gypsy style" (see Wikipedia) is improvisational Further, Kim adds a Gypsy sound quality in places like 7:31. This is as natural for Romani music as ornaments are for baroque music. Listen to any of the performances on RUclips by violinist Roby Lakatos. I like Kim's version, but I respect those who prefer it "a la" Sarasate: ruclips.net/video/ABm7nMVyNh4/видео.html

When you listen to Heifetz or Perlman you don't really notice that it's a showpiece, here however the virtuosity seems to be more important than the music itself. Sometimes less really is more.

    He should transform those glasses in some kind of upper mask (the kind the nobles used during balls)

      I didn't personally like the change. It felt out of character. Everything else was nice though -- hearing entire passages converted to his trademark forced harmonics was really neat, but for some reason they didn't seem to speak properly in this performance.

      @@Musicrafter12 Yeah, his forced harmonics are something else. It's pretty outstanding to hear even though they didn't speak the best, but then again, he was playing sautille really quickly while trying to play his forced harmonics. Amazing nonetheless
