That's dumb excuse for no content idk why people like it, instead of making little to no content they can make boosting event for new players to catch up.
Right now gw2 is like an abandon park with nothing to do, new players just play through the honeymoon then quit.

The emptiness of the maps is a real problem. I quit multiple times since actually trying to get into GW2 about 4 years ago and every time the population decreases more and more, and I find myself thinking "I wish I had enjoyed the game when it was alive-- I must really be too late now!" and then usually I quit again.
I'm female btw. Your wife might be like me and like shiny things. Show her some pretty maps, the skyscale and other mounts, and the wardrobe (especially winged backpacks). I also found it helpful to make new characters and skip to the pvp zone to try out the specializations to find the one I wanted to stick with. She can see if any classes feel better to her without having to unlock all skills. The only reason I'm still playing now is because I bought a few skins from the gem shop and rushed through the skyscale quest x'D I'm slowly going through core content completely backwards, starting with the personal story, with a survivable celestial bs build lifted straight from the expansion level 80 boost as a virtuoso with a dragon and a cuckoo springer, and idgaf. I simply feel that GW2 is more fun this way than the crawl of getting to level 80 in a lonely world.
You may be able to entice her if she gets to own a cute cuckoo springer or a dragon, a little crow miniature, or whatever is her thing.

Thats the thing about the game, she tried getting into it again without me asking her, but hunting bunnies and walking extremely slow is not in my favor, am thinking to make her jump straight to level 80 with a booster and do what you suggested xD

I'm no veteran, i've only played 350 hours, and if you understand the game, you'll know it's not a lot given the amount of content, but that's exactly my main issue.
When I first joined, i played my first 150 hours with the feeling of "Ehhh, doesn't really seem like I want to play this game over FFXIV" but i stuck with it for a bit longer until i also took one of my classic year break (Every game i play, i play for a while, quit for a year or a bit less and then come back), went back to other MMOs, and found out, that I was missing everything about GW2. Now i'm committed to the game and i'm enjoying it a lot.
But even tho I love this game, and I cannot go back to other MMOs, i can't excuse the lack of organization this game has for it's content. As you said, settings goals is the best thing to do, but firstly, how are you going to set goals, if you don't even know what there is to do? How are you going to understand how to do stuff, when all you get is "This is a Strike mission, it's a PvE content, go do it" and of course, the wiki exist i know, but you can't expect new players to enjoy reading an entire wiki page for a single piece of drop in a single piece of content with 8000 uses.
I still haven't touche Fractals, not because i'm scared to fail or something like that, i've learned what they are, what to do, team compositions, rotations just by playing, these are thing that you learn by playing, but I still don't even know where to start or how to start a fractals, just because there's an entire world, and the portals for Fractals are all over the place. Same with Strikes, what's the difference between "(Experienced) and (Training)" LFG? Training has 1 group per year because of course it does.
All of this could be easily fixed by making tabs for each piece of content, or reduce the spreading of things and write info of that content in some places related to the content. Imagine how more clear, the wallet puch would be, if you had separators for each currency, and by hovering on them, you'll learn that they are spendable on that type of merchant, then the wiki is justified, you just wiki the merchant, you understand all of their locations, you go there and see what the currency can buy you.
And yes, I did lose myself when writing this comment, so I might have explained myself poorly, or missed something extremely important, so i'm sorry, it's extremely frustrating to me, to have to open the Wiki every few minutes and still have less understanding than if it were just easily more digestable in the game itself
So in short, game is fantastic, but it's less organized than this comment. And no, the Wiki is not a solution. Just because the tape can hold everything together it's ok, there shouldn't be any tape to begin with.
Edit: And by the way, I know why it's way less organized than every other MMOs, because it's an horizontal progression game, and to make this type of game good, you need lots of content, but that's an even bigger reason to organise everything properly, otherwise you end in this situation

    • @xGuiders
      @xGuiders  Год назад

After reading your big ass comment xD First, its gladdens me to hear that you're enjoying the game.
Second, If you've played WoW, the way they display Dungeons and what kind of rewards you can get / bosses to expect. Would be a nice implementation to the game if they can show different tabs for PvE, PvP, and WvW, and content for each one. Recommended level, how to approach it, how to do it, and basically, general information about every aspect in the game.
Then its up to you to actually know more about it, but again, this "book" or guide or whatever, would be there to show all the new players about the content that is available in the game.

I think the most important thing is really playing at your own pace. Back when the game started I didn't have the time to play, so I started half a year later. While I generally liked the game (besides a few things like that weapon skills are bound)... what killed basically most of the fun I had was my friends dragging me around through content I simply wasn't ready yet. It all was looking so chaotic, stressful... so after a few weeks I basically quit again.
It took me until ~ a year after HoT came out that I gave it another try. Most of these friends moved to other games and those who stayed played very chill. So this time I took my time and it was great. I didn't move slow, but it was in my own pace. I leveled alts, I discovered what I liked and what not. Later I also learned that to achieve stuff in the game I did not have to grind, but doing whatever is fun to me at the time. So when the time was there too make my first leggies.... I could just craft them. With the following ones I took my time.
This game is perfect for me since I do not feel any pressure, I do as much or as little as I like or can.

My fiancée started playing and 3 days in got 100% map completion and liked dragon hunter as her spec. When she realized she needed gold she asked about fishing. Now after making thousands of gold from fishing she is crafting eternity not because she cares about a legendary but because it’s pretty and she wants a clock for her fishing. Best Advices:
    - Play in your own pace
    - Take a Break
somthing i to 100% agree, ppl often forget its at the end just a game, if you don't enjoy it or feel you have to play, just stop it, if your static group feels more like work, get out of it and relax. I played that game since the release beta and i do always come back to this game and also know why i love the horizontal progress.
what i always see in veteran and new player, they burn out because of all the goals they have to achieve.
I don't know why but i never was one of the "tryhards" and still got all the raid, strike, fractal content done, with old friends or new guildies. If you have the feeling of burning out.. maybe you need a new perspectiv like xGuiders said it, make your own goal that makes you feel the excitement

Coming back, gear is much easier and cheaper to get so now I can play fractals and strikes. At first II did dailies religiously, but I've learned to only play when you are in the mood. Also, there are lot of chill things to do at whatever pace you want. There is no need to rush.

GW2 players on RUclips: "Come play GW2, it respects your time much more than WOW and our community isn't as toxic as in other MMOs. And you don't have to pay sub."
GW2 in reality: Pay for everything in the shop, even chapters of the story, which are not included in the expansions (WTF). Also, get gatekept from literally EVERY instanced content in the game no matter how easy it is by the MOST TOXIC community I ever encountered in over 30 years of gaming. WOW pvp servers are safe spaces compared to GW2.
In WOW and FF14 I can at least queue for dungeons, raids, pvp. In GW2 you can't queue for anything, so you have to deal with the disgusting gatekeeping. You level from 1-80 as if it is a single player game, then you reach 80 and can't participate in any instanced PVE content.

Well said brother! I will add for new players, the simple thing to do while lvling is follow the giant green arrows and shining dots(main story), dont worry about doing everything in each zone . just do hearts(quests) and dynamic events (orange circles) and some light exploring along the way. Id also recommend if you like the feel for the game by the time your lvl 30-40 don't feel afraid just to pick up an expansion to get a lvl 80 boost. I played GW all way back in the days from the start of Prophesies and had.. some expectations in GW2, which were not met IMO and so I quitted just after the start of Tower of Nightmare events. During Covid years my company went down and I was in no hurry to find a new job, so I had all the time in the world and I eventually picked back up GW2 again with GW being a distant memory. Bought HoT and played for a bit; then bought every expansions shortly after in one go and had a total blast going through all the contents good or bad. And now I cannot get enough of this game, I just casually work through one thing at a time with some loose routines, and slowly working on my legendary things (if I feel like it). GW2 cross progression, and its contents requiring different level of commitment let me choose what to do depends on how engaged or filthy casual I want to be, and I love the game for it.

Right now my goal is to slowly max my professions without exchanging irl money to in game gold. I want to get the gold and the materials by doing content. where most people mess up playing guildwars 2 is that they think they need to race to level 80. Then they need to race for end game. Then they need to race into ascended gear. GW2 isn't like that. Its not a 100 yard dash to get through, its a marathon. Take your time to wander around the maps. Take your time to learn what every skill in your kit (skills/ build) does. It is the journey to the endgame that matters. Some grinds take weeks or months. Its ok its time gated there is no rush. I came from WOW and was in that sprinter mode I maxed several characters quickly some i used boosts for. I was just simply frustrated with the game. It finally clicked and i played each char from the beginning and had a much better time. You have to ease into each professions playstyle.

    My reasons are -
    1. There is no content update for wvw. They can maybe try adding new maps and if not that, update part of maps and re-texture the old ones because they are very low fidelity compared to other pve new zones. The maps are showing their age graphics wise. Similar case for pvp. No new maps and old look bad.
    2. The bloom effect kills the game. If you put Postprocessing off many cool ambient colors go away and also the game looks bad in some areas. These settings need to be separated. If not that, allow modders to do that for you. They really need to adapt some new lighting techniques and settings if they can.
    3. New elite specs are clunky, I play necromancer (and this is just an example, ik other classes have their clunk too) and the amount of bugs harbinger still has is insane. Major impact skill's animations are reused and have weird before and aftercasts. Harbinger underwater shroud animation is not even developed and dont work. All of this doesn't impact the game that much but it gives a message that they don't care about elite specs and animations even after this long of their release. Which is the fallout point for me personally. I know how game animations are made. They are doing bottom of the barrel job in the industry wrt animations on e-specs. You can get people making better ones from fiverr. I'm sorry animations do affect the gameplay experience, if you cant maintain your min standard it just feels disrespectful towards the player. Like how every boss is a ball in the latest content 😂 compare that to marionette animation wise and it was made god knows when.
    4. Content isn't hard and now all classes can do everything which is a + and a - but the weird thing is that being able to use all weapons for all e-specs takes away from exclusivity or special-ness of the elite spec to some degree which i personally don't like.
    5. The core game is just outdated visually, mechanically and story wise too in many places which gives a bad look from the get go and major fallout point for most new people. I can bet money on this point.

I started playing about 5-6 weeks ago. I watched hours of youtube content, some helpful and some clickbait; many yt content providers have been very helpful so I focus on those as they've led me to some helpful websites regarding many aspects of game play. I picked a guardian to start out and did the completionist map with the vistas, mini quests, waypoints, etc. Anything that could be auto deposited by right-clicking I just dropped it there as I was not familiar with items that had value or were junk. This was helpful as when I hit 80, I put everything, all the deposits on the auction house and had about 70g. I will say that channel chats (I've heard pvp is toxic) but the rest are pretty mild compared to WOW which is toxic in general, lfg, crafting, you name it. I have joined a couple of guilds but no one really talks and joining a guild for a few buffs and some harvests seems meh. Overall, it's been fun so far but I find, from years of playing mmos, that I can see where it is a grind, lots of dailies and makes me wonder if I really want to go through this again in a redefined package. I think if I chose this game at the onset of its launch, I would be very excited but being new to this game with peeps that have spent a good chunk of their lives playing this, I'm way behind and wonder if I even want to somehow find a way to bridge the gap and invest the time and energy to catch up to the players that have lagged way behind over the years. I'm not sure if it is worth it, but it's a fun game.

The thing about gw2, if you started once it released, and you were on the hype train for it and kept playing, you genuinely have a special place in your heart for this game. The fact they dont charge any sub fee back then and gave such a high quality game, really made certain mmorpgers appreciate the game. The horizontal progression, the customisation, the expansions, the story, it all made me feel more positive about life. Even though i don't play anymore unless expansions come up. Guild wars 2 is the type of mmorpg that says, yes have a life, yes be happy, and yes we always welcome you back, you don't have to keep pay. Gw2 is perfect, but something it lacks is that type of difficulty reward that characterizes most MMORPGs, for example, the mount aspects, the outfits, the legendary weapons and the ability to become stronger each time are not there. present here, once you get your legendary set you only have to farm gold to buy cosmetics, but those rewards to stand out as a true roleplayer are not there, some special mount that only falls with really difficult raid bosses in the style of WoW, outfits that are difficult to get either by missions or by drop in the style of Blade&Soul, or missions that are quite complicated to carry out due to their strength and penalties, as can be the case in Tibia, in short, the element of difficulty in the end game is what bothers me a lot. little, but it is still for me the best mmorpg that exists

I have quit gw2 like 10 times already, thats the best thing about the game, you can quit whenever you want, for weeks, month or years, and come back with a lot of new content to play with no need to grind for weeks for new levels or gear first. I love it so much, its the perfect game for adults with familys, jobs and other things that sometimes stop you from playing for a while. Some of my friends played WOW for example and most of them havent played it in years, every time they try to play again they just give up when they see how much they have to grind before beeing able to play the endgame again...

2012 I started at day one, quit around 5 years ago and came back for one day or so. The problem is there is no Endgame. The Endgame is Fashion Wars and the cool stuff is only available in the Gemstore. You can barely make money with events to buy gems. To make the most money you have to grind Silver Wastes or high level Fractals or Raids. (Dungeons are dead for years)
I just wish the old Meta Maps on HoT were more supported by weekly achievements to bring back players for metas.

Once you hit lvl 80 you're kind of lost or overwhelmed with so many options.. or just not knowing where to start. I came back several times but the game didn't click with me until it did.. And that was making my own goals, finding what I wanted to do.. But then its focusing on stuff, don't over extend yourself and make it a part time job.. If you want to do SoTo stuff focus on that! Raiding, focus on that! Fractuals, focus on that!.. I came back months ago to make gold, and while I did it was a 9 hour game plan after work of going from events to fractuals/dailies.. And yeah burn out :( Breaks are good to have honestly.

The current state of replayability is really boring. Yes open world is like the GW2 thing, but doing the same metas every day, the same way, I just yawn while following the commander.
In my opinion competition is what keeps the game intriguing and different every single encounter. It's sad that the game started out as PVP focused, just for it to be left and forgotten.
And they say that this game removes the grind and focuses on the fun, understandable, it being horizontal progression, but is the fun really there with repetitive "follow the commander" metas? Heck, even the rewards aren't that much rewarding, nothing to eagerly expect, just the same old bags that when opened drop more bags. Grind for exponential profit, really no dopamine inscrease. That's why players leave.
Though, gotta give credit where credit is due, the Wizards Vault is a big improvement over the prior daily rewards, they're actually rewarding!
And also the weaponmaster training, really made certain builds more fun.
In the end, if ArenaNet doesn't look into improving the competitive side of the game, everything is going to stay the same.

Yes, of course, not really against it, that's what makes it gw2 I guess. You could say I'm kinda jealous of them not getting bored easily doing open world.
It's just the fact, as stated before, they neglect PVP in favor of PVE, instead of keeping everything somewhat in balance.
Doesn't have to be a PVP update every 3-4 months, an impactful one once a year would even suffice at this point.@@xGuiders

I could log in with the goal of getting some achievements completed, but end the day with helping out a person I came across that is fairly new to the game. Or I can log on with map exploration in mind, but end up doing one of my many legendary collections I have going because I saw part of the collection pop up during map completion lol Either way I let it play out however it plays out, but I always have my goals :} They get finished eventually, but GW is meant to be taken slow. For new players, FFXIV and even WoW classic is a much better experience. Unless you'd prefer spending over $100 for content upfront then $25 for inventory space, $25 for bank space etc. over a game that has been in maintenance mode since 2019. GW2 is also p2w, people don't even hide they spend their dollars to buy in game gold anymore, then buy armor and weapons with cash.
The main reason is the company behind it, game barely gets any content and when it does it's very short and low quality. An equally good reason to quit is the bottomfeeding addicted "community". Which even here you see, downvote and dislike anything negative about their mediocre mmo game. Cult behavior is running unchecked and over a very weak video game too, sad.

Early this year I started a new thing where I rotate games every couple months to keep games exciting. On about a 1 month rotation right now. I was on Star Citizen for a month, then the GW2 expansion came out so I played that for a month, and now I'm playing Starfield. Feels like I'm winding down from Starfield, so will be switching back to GW2 briefly, and then to Star Citizen for November event. Staying in 1 game too long is just too much like work. Games are meant to be fun, not work. It's been working out great. Swapping frequently keeps the games exciting.

The problem with Guild Wars 2 is, it fails to be an MMORPG.
You play for a few days, hit level 80, farm for a hundred gold, then buy Exotic Gear off the Trade Post. Everything after that is simply not worth the effort. Sure, you could make Ascended Armor, but that will take a like a month and a half due to daily crafting limits. Or, just spend like 1500 gold on the Trade Post. Ascended Armor is only 5% better than Exotic. Even if you chose to go for Ascended Armor, Technically Legendary Armor does exist, but it takes like 10,000 hours to do plus like 15,000 Gold. Its not any better than Ascended Armor.
If not for the community gatekeeping, Raiding should realistically start with Exotic Gear. That is also Irrelevant, because you're not going to be able to raid unless you were part of the first wave of raiders who raided when the game released over a decade ago.
Just doing your daily crafting would eat up any free time you'd have away from Work/School. 400 Thin Leather Sections for Daily crafting? 300 Silk Cloth for Daily Tailoring? I mean 50 Mithril Bars is really not all that bad. 150 Mithril Ore can be farmed up doing META events and Salvaging gear. Other materials like Rugged Leather Sections will take literal hours to collect enough of it to make enough Rugged Leather to do anything with.
The WvW is full of Cheaters that Arena.net won't do anything about, because the cheaters are carrying the Devs through WvW which has all kinds of important items including things to make Legendary Gear. (Like gifts of Battle and Memory of Battle both of which are only obtainable in WvW. I don't think most of the Devs play this game. I have been playing on and off for a decade, and have amassed around 2,000 hours of it. (90% of my playtime was spent AFK in lions Arch, because I ran out of shit to do after the first few weeks into the game and don't want to spent 10,000 hours of my life getting Legendary Gear for a game that I don't want to do anything in.
The Devs never wanted to add PvP into the game. They went to war with the community over it and lost. You can't Raid unless you were part of the first wave of players who wanted to raid. If you're not in a Successful WvW guild, It will literally take you thousands of hours to accomplish anything in World vs World. It literally took me 100 hours to solo grind Warclaw. Why? I couldn't even find a commander. Becoming a commander takes 300 Gold, and comes with the asterisk that if you're bad at it, you just wasted 300 Gold. If you're good at it, you're going to get DDOS'd and harassed by hundreds of thousands of people till you quit playing or kill yourself.

When I say the "free2play" aspect of GW2 is pretty limited and feels more like a trial I always get in pretty heated discussions and I am downvoted to hell. Comparing to old mmos or old trials, yeah it can be called that, but I don't think nowadays it fits the bill. The big mmos like WoW and FF14 have pretty good trials, letting you play throught expansions and experimenting a bit more. THO I must say that letting you level to 80 is pretty generous and is a easy counter argument. And it getting LSW1 for free makes the content last longer.
Also agree with the UI customization, specially for boons that is most people think there should be ways to see better or even better explained ingame.
About coming back when they release patches or expansions.... tbh that's what devs expect of mmos and it's usually what is seen in almost every one of them. I actually get fascinated seeing content creators like Teapot, and seeing what some of them do to play for so long can be an idea to what you should also be doing. Usually trying new modes, leveling new characters, doing some collections/achievements and so on. I really think there is a lot to do in GW2.
About the exploration part.. I think the game is fine the way it is, but most people miss the first tutorial about hearts even tho the NPC is right in front of you as soon as you leave the tutorial. Something should be done, either making the dialogue start automatically when you get near them, or they following the player, dunno. I don't think forcing tutorials is a good game design, but it may alleviate in this case. Also to convince a partner to play/like a game play together, but don't try to explain every little thing and sometimes let them lead, so they participate!

    • @xGuiders
      @xGuiders  Год назад

Any controversial topic will get your downvoted to the ground, but I agree with you. The f2p aspects are limited, but thats how it should be because the game was not meant to be f2p. Its rather just a way to give players a trial before making a decision, just like you said, its pretty generous.
I plan on following on the biggers GW2 creator footsteps as they seem to be doing well. Obviously with a twist, but thats rather some good insight thanks :D

When I try to access any of it, I die quickly. I don't last. None of my characters do. I haven't maxed out a single elite specialization yet. I'm still working on it 3 of the characters I have at level 80. I've even got 100k in gold. I haven't got a single crafting skill maxed out. Every time I play this game I can only stand it for an hour at most and then I get bored. I like the art, but combat sucks. It's boring. I hate 'jumping puzzles' too. You can't even jump or climb. People that keep saying "it's optional you don't need it" are just missing the point. The reward should be proportional to the effort required to attain it. As someone who helped quite a few new players to get into the game, I learned that you should explain everything right now to a new player. Stay with them, wait for their questions, moments of visual confusion or making bad decisions and explain only the relevant parts to them - not more yet. I know it can be hard, but you just need to remember that one of the big appeals of this game is figuring out stuff yourself and explore the world yourself. Also try to avoid to come across as "mansplaining" it. You have the advantage of seeing the person playing instead of just the ingame avatar.
But ultimately you also have to accept that: a) Guild Wars 2 is not the right game for everyone and b) Sometimes people need to try it several times and be in the right mood so it "clicks" for them. The second part is especially true if they had any ideas about the game that the actual gameplay didn't match with, like "oh, so this game is just like WoW (or another MMORPG she might be familiar with)" and then realizing it is actually not like that other game in many ways.

What made me quit is realization that latest xpac and post EoD update is indication of overal quality of content going forward, and outside of story being interesting, everything else felt very flat for me, strikes poorly balanced, whole xpac filled with reused assets left and right, borderline inexcusably poor balance of current meta game.
Anet is making a new game they keep hiring for which I hope will turn out awesome and gw2 got to help pay the bills until then, sadly I don't really want to grind subpar content, just gonna hop on for the story I guess or Strike CM's.

See 'my' issue with it is the toxic groups that seemed to be running Fractals and Raids ... the "You must run a Meta build or you can't do these"... on top of that ... I have the best stat armor for my build for my character... and then come back after an expansion and they've nuked my 'build' into the ground or dismantled it and put different stuff in it's place for the abilities I was using...
I have a much better time on FFXIV for the last 10 years... GW1 oddly feels better than GW2...

It is the best MMORPG around, it is no where near perfect, we don't live in year 2500, where new legit content is instantly being made meanwhile you play it, dungeons, fractals endless content kind of stuff. But it is undoubtebly the best MMORPG around, and that is kinda sad. Just quit ESO, after I quit New World, every single game is a joke after a joke compared to Gw2. There is not a game that seriously stack up to Gw2, even a little bit-

And sry but almost every map on gw2 is well populated, you get the complete base game for free, the leveling is extremly fast, i hit level 80 after playing just half of the base game... You just play it wrong. Gw2 is not a game to rush into lategame on a straight path, its a game to explore the world, to choose your own sidequests, search for nice skins or achievements, enjoy beautiful vistas, starting legendary weapons... I have like a gazillion goals in the game and none of it is leveling, it just happens while you do your thing and before you realise it you hit 80 ^^

Honestly I left the game because SotO shows how the game design are compromised. HoT, PoF and EoD had the same winning recipe to make expansions - now they chose rush to new small and bland content. The "new" relic system is a mess and a nonsense place-swap passive with meaningless changes - some say it's a small detail, but if they are doing like WoW now, than is change off stuff that worked for years "beucase they think is cool", I don't see how make sense to me spend time build something for ANet just make a mess. Maybe sometime in the future I'll miss this game I loved so much and run a little bit, but from now, my wish to play GW2 is 0.

The only game modes that are good is pvp and wvw, but is always controlled be the meta, ooooo I forgot now you have this new thing the relics if you want that buff guess what buy the expansion, wy are not playing a game they are playing with uss

I also quit the game when I played from 2012 to 2014 and came back on a new account 2022 because of the end of dragons DLC so now again Im at this point of quitting I have pretty much everything and more that I actually wanted 😅 GW2 has only repetitive content always the same crap over and over again farming for legendary Weapons/Armor/Trinkets month or even years and then ? Nothing 😂 only repetitive stuff is left over another big problem is the very bad performance even a 4090 can't hit the 60fps with 50 or more people 😮 the game is just to old nothing changed from 2012 gameplay over 10 years old maybe it's time for Guild Wars 3 ?
