Beautiful. Christopher you are like a magician, I can just hear you saying, "And now ladies and gentleman, what do we have in pot number three!" Love your yarn dyeing and I can just tell how much you love it, I feel the same way about it too. Thank you.
Oh wow! Absolutely amazing and so beautiful ❤️ Lilac is one of my all time favorites and to see what it can become as a dye for yarn blows my mind. So wonderful 💜
Very cool! I love lilacs & had been wondering about using them to dye with. Did you strip the flowers from the stems or just put them in the pot stem & all?
Researched this for an assignment I'm doing for my Textiles class, and now I want to do this this summer with my mum! Maybe we can dye homemade paper and linens. :) I had a question to! How easily do these colours fade? Either by being washed or by the sun. And if there a way to help the colour stay if they do fade easily?
🤩 wow 😲 ! Almost Unbelievable .. Those are some my favorite colors . Did you tried flowers and leaves in the same dye pot ? I would love to get a yellowish highlight green “. Should you prepare them separately as you showed us, and then just before adding the yarn ,combine the 2 dye solutions ( baths ) together in order to best obtain that special green I ‘d want to get ? Thanks a lot for that super demonstration ! I’m sure going to give this a try as I have a big Lilac ( purple ) tree at home .
Have you ever dyed with cherries? How about using the cherry juice concentrate that you can buy at the grocery store? Also when you put the yarn into the dye pot is the heat on or off? Thank you.
Such beautiful colours!! May need to plant a lilac tree 😁 Just a question on mordants. Noticed you didn’t use cream of tartar this time. When do you decide to add that along with the alum? Thanks for taking the time to make these wonderful videos 🥰
It really depends on what I am working on. The wonderful thing about fleece is that they can carry so many different characteristics based on the breed and the conditions the sheep are exposed too. Combinations are nice as well because you can use a yarn with a higher micron count yet has a wonderful sheen, with a lower micron count to add softness.
1st question: Are you heating the yarn as it dyes, or is it just in whatever the temp is after the dyepot sits overnight / Is there a preferred temp? (my pots may not hold the temp as long as yours ...or the air temp might be different etc). 2nd question: About how many skeins / ounces could you get from each of those pots before you consider them exhausted. 3rd question: Do you ever save the "elixir" to reheat and use at a later date, or does it go bad?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Glad it was helpful!
Those colors are amazing! I love that you couls use all the parts of the plant! Great work, and thanks for sharing.

Are you able to store the made dyes into mason jars and seal the jars so that you can use the dyes when those plants are out of season?

@@cabinboyknits1816 Ahh ! Super excited to know how it went ! Thank you 🙏 happy crafting ! 😘
Can you use dryed lilac flowers as well?
Susanna, yes you can. 👍🏻
Is it possible to tie-dye with these dyes? This was suchba cool video!!
Have you ever dyed with cherries? How about using the cherry juice concentrate that you can buy at the grocery store? Also when you put the yarn into the dye pot is the heat on or off? Thank you.
Are they colorfast?

Loved the video Christopher - do you have preferences for the origin of the yarn fleece or the yarn content combination?
It really depends on what I am working on. The wonderful thing about fleece is that they can carry so many different characteristics based on the breed and the conditions the sheep are exposed too. Combinations are nice as well because you can use a yarn with a higher micron count yet has a wonderful sheen, with a lower micron count to add softness.
I expected a light purple from the flowers.

Have you tried Rhododendron?
Angie, your mother sounds wonderful. Thank you for watching.
Do u ever sell the yarn that u just dyed?
Zoya, I do sell my yarn and my online store will be up shortly. :)
I love the color blue what plant makes a blue yarn
Woad and indigo are two plants that make blue
@@cabinboyknits1816 thank you
The Skins of Concord grapes are also good

Have you use peony’s? Sorry I’m a subscriber .
Does the smell of the lilacs transfer to the yarn?
unfortunately not.
Just out of curiosity, can you intensify colors by boiling the liquid after straining?
Geoffrey, for most flowers, boiling causes the dye bath to turn brown or a dull grey/ brown. Thanks for asking
@@cabinboyknits1816 Thank you!
Thank you! This was so interesting! Have you ever dyed with spruce or juniper? Or any conifers?
