Inflation and financial inequality are the reason most luxury products are doing badly. People have a hard time paying their bills, let alone the insane MTB & EMTB pricing.

EMBN, the Hawaii wildfires in August 2023 were devastating, particularly on the island of Maui, where they resulted in over 100 deaths and destroyed more than 2,200 structures, primarily in the historic town of Lahaina. The fires were fueled by dry conditions and high winds, exacerbated by Hurricane Dora, leading to an estimated $5.5 billion in damages. Many ebike riders escaped with their lives because their ebikes could navigate tighter spaces than drivers stuck in gridlock traffic. Many drivers died due to the gridlocked traffic and the ebikers survived.
@neildonoghueMTB yeah. It was scary. However, the wildfires in Hawaii and Los Angeles have shown how effective EMTBs are in a serious crisis where mobility and having a low profile is literally lifesaving. Neil, please watch the video that John Hicks did covering the Los Angeles wildfires on his EMTB. It has almost 10M views now. Without the risk of gasoline in a motorcycle, with the nimbleness of a mountain bike, and without the footprint of a car, Hicks could get on the ground video that no news station could. In addition, local bike shop owners literally rode their EMTBs downhill to avoid the wildfires that destroyed their shops and killed their neighbors. The EMTB has been a neat toy but now it's an evacuation vehicle, emergency response vehicle, and news vehicle. The EMTBs are game changers for society, in a good way.
I sold my Canyon and bought a Giant Trance X Advanced E+ Elite. Turns out, when I spend 11k on mountain bikes, I expect excellent customer service. Canyon's customer service is laughably bad. I've been saying this for a while now but the future will be interesting with vertical integration. More and more brands are wanting to (or will want to) create and source their own inhouse motors. There's too much in terms of reputation and warranty support on the line. Not to mention end to end experience for the consumer. Put it this way: as bands move away from Shimano motors what is their future? Back to brakes and drivetrains? Shimano makes no bikes. DJI (in theory) makes no bikes. That's a problem for both brands.
dji has better controls, better software and firmware, more power, better battery management firmware, better display and some stuff i may have forgotten , oh yeah its quiet .
The boom in bike sales during Covid was never going to be sustainable. People with no real need for a bike went out and bought up everything that was available with no thought to what they’d do with the bike once they could go back to their sunny beach holidays around the world. One thing that might help UK sales again is the changes to Italy and Spain’s tourism taxes, if people stop going there as much they may dig out their unsold bike that they couldn’t sell on eBay a couple of years ago and start buying mtb clothing and spares.
KTM being no. 1 motorcycle brand/saller/whatever in Europe in... which year, exactly? BMW has just announced its results for 2024, and it seems like it's on top, globally.
Likely not. They are massively scaling back on all things including sports bikes and premiere championships along all genres. This is a chapter 11 restructuring bankruptcy meaning they take loans from investors as long as they promise to clean ship and change things. That begins with dropping expensive and or unprofitable or overly complicated ventures. The reality is KTM got too big for its britches and bought up too many companies of similar vein. Now they're paying for it. KTM as a brand isn't going anywhere. KTM making ebikes in some form going forward isn't going anywhere. Likely there will be different names etc.. warranties will be honored.
at what point did someone buying a motorbike get an ebike for free? I’d love to know this. They’d have me as a customer tomorrow! Most quality e-bikes aren’t far off the price of great motorbikes.
