Very interesting. I've used VBA in the past to assign comments to charts. Be interesting to see how it works with power query. I'm not totally enamoured by the assignment of comments by typing alongside data in a spreadsheet if I'm honest. I prefer the version control of a database and the ability to take commentary from other sources where possible. In that regard, I'd nearly always want commentary to be written back to some database, held with coding at the relevant level. For example, I might have a bunch of data for several different companies, or departments or whatever. The commentary could be written back to a database (or CSV file or whatever) by each department admin person (the primary key might be period, dept, country etc) and the overall chart looks at that instead of the spreadsheet table. That way it can dynamically change with the use of slicers.
I know this is just a rudimentary (not in a bad way!) example Bill has given here, I'm assuming that it's possible to separate the data/commentary entry from the published report, not least so that data can be quickly accessed to view prior years or period commentary.
Also, the "add function" to the chart option gives me the fear! I remember having a balance sheet where someone had typed "+60804" at the end of one of the calculations. It remained there for about ten years without anyone knowing what that amount referred to. Think I'd always want functions to remain in the spreadsheet or data model, but I'm happy to be convinced I guess. The invert option is less dangerous and definitely useful. Overall looks good, will maybe give it a try sometime.

This is awesome! If I install this and send a report to a client, will it still work if they don't have it? Work with hospitals and they are slow moving in updates, forget plugins.

Hi Michael T, yes - in the free version, they'll be able to see everything, but not interact with the data :) Hope this helps :)

@@ZebraBI, so it sounds like they would have to install the free version. Time to do some selling today. This is a must have for annual reports.

@@michaelt312 no need for them to download anything - once they open your report, the add-in will be there ;) They will be able to make their own reports in their own Excel files, but not to edit your (or anyone else's) - that is: in the free version. PRO allows that, and much more :)

@@ZebraBI, thank you. I think I get it. Iw. Easiest way to confirm is for me to purchase it as planned at home, and open the report on a hospital provided laptop. Thank you!!

I used the Tables today. It worked on a pivot table and dynamically but It doesn’t have undo but you can reload. I used a bar chart and sorted it but when I closed my file and reopened it I got a warning message and the chart was sorted the default way. If someone can comment on memory and performance.
