Hi I'm Wendy a resin artist and crafter.
In this video I am trying out a machine that isn't made for resin.
I had heard that some people are using it and wanted to try it out and show you what it does.
    Spoiler
Be very careful if you do try this out.
This machine is not made for this purpose and therefor, there is absolutely nothing wrong with how it works.
I will not be held responsible for any misuse of this ultrasonic cleaning machine.
If you have any comments or just want to ask questions please use the comment section below and I will get back to you.
I hope you enjoy the video.

I work in a tattoo shop and use an ultrasonic to clean tubes, every day. What most people don’t know is they make liquid particles become airborne, in a radius of about 4 to 6 feet. You should never remove the lid while the ultrasonic is running. In my case it makes blood-borne pathogens airborne, in this case you would likely be releasing thousands of airborne resin particles. All our guidelines come from the state board and resin certainly isn’t included, but it should be tested. I would never do this indoor, knowing how an ultrasonic works . Just my thoughts!

Firstly, maths aside, you need to fill close to the max line to get the most out of the cleaner and impart as much vibration to the cup, or in your case at least fill it to above the resin level when the cup sits in it. When I had one of those cleaners here it also had a small heater in the base to warm the water and thus clean better, and mine could not be turned off, so maybe that started heating your resin to the point it started to exothermally run away? My new ultrasonic cleaner has the ability to turn the heat on or off, and is way larger, so would probably help pull any heat away from the resin as it is in there.
    Great video though, thanks!

Oh wow! That could have gone bad fast! I think I’m going to stick with storing my resin in the hotbox that I made. I used 2 seed germination mats wrapped around the inside of a large plastic storage tub, and I just keep them plugged in all the time. It doesn’t get hot, but it keeps the resin at a nice warm temperature and ready to use. I got the idea from watching Robert Talone’s channel.

@@carolynfrancis-mclucas6185 Thank you. I've been using my homemade hotbox for almost a year, and it has worked perfectly for me. My studio is always very cold regardless of the time of year, and I am way to impulsive and impatient to let the bottles heat up as I need them. I think the mats stay around 75-77° F. The storage tub I use is one with a gasket around the lid to help keep humidity down. I just fold the gasket out of the way at the corners the cords need to come out. No cutting or tools involved! 🎉 😂 I live in Texas where it's almost always very humid, and I can't even work with resin during the summer without running a dehumidifier in the studio 27/7. We have "the air you wear" here. 😂🤣😂🤣

    • @OG_Beckie_Leigh
      @OG_Beckie_Leigh 5 месяцев назад

@@Toonpish thank you! And, bonus, it literally cost me nothing to make. I was standing there in the studio looking around while I waited for my resin to heat up and saw the seed germination mats lying around in a stack of clutter, and the idea just came to me. I always keep a bunch of air & waterproof storage tubs on hand for yarn storage, so I had to try it out to see if it would work. I did also line the bottom of the storage tub with some of the miles of brown paper that I've saved from Amazon packages just in case there were any leaks or drips.

Well, it was only on for 180 seconds the cup didn’t touch the base I had a little basket with my cleaner. But, the resin got very very hot, it smoked, it went very thick very quickly, couldn’t use it. I put it in a bucket of cold water and put it in the garden… Back to stirring then. Hey Wendy, I have a smaller version ultra sonic cleaner which I tried today with a small 40 ml cup of resin. Mine doesn’t have a timer so I was just winging it. Because I know it does heat up I kept lifting the cup to check the temperature. The resin did not warm up and the resin did come out really clear. Maybe yours was in too long. 180 is actually 3 minutes so maybe the 90 second mark would work better.

I have 2 of this types of these machines, I find them hand for cleaning many objects that have hidden seams on them. As for using it for this would be nuts as it’s based on vibrations to do the work of cleaning. The water in these units actually gets warm when being used. So this fact alone should have been enough to give anyone second thoughts of using it this way😹😹

No it will work fine just make sure you are using a unit beg enough to allow room around it and place a silicone mat under the resin cup. It’s about the same as the one made for resin the only difference is yes it’s stronger and louder 😹😹😹so make sure you have a resin cup tall enough to allow the resin room to rise up the cup. I have two of these food style machines after inheriting Moms unit years ago. I had been toying with idea of selling Moms machine, but when I started watching RUclips on resin work and saw people using the paint pot canister for spray painting I was going to buy one for my use in resin work when it dawned on me I could use Moms food vacuum machine to do this in its place. That’s why I said make sure your resin cup is bigger than it needs to be to allow room for the resin to rise up 🤗🤗

@@Toonpish Ok, so it was just the reaction then. I asked, because the really good (expensive) ultrasonic cleaners come with a heating function.

I was expecting a cool new way of degassing resin, but when I saw the temperature rising up so fast I thought 😳 that’s not a good sign 😞 but you’ve been so close to succeed! 😃 Thanks a lot for sharing this experiment! I bought a sonic jewellery cleaner a few months back (to clean jewellery obvs😂) but I had seen this video and put it in my watch later, think Yass this is going to be epic! Thank goodness I watched before giving it a go and thank you Wendy for experimenting so I didn’t have to deal with the fallout of a melting cup full of hot resin. It is very very appreciated

Hi wendy. Thanks for showing this. Love you and your videos. People need to realise they are using chemicals that can be very dangerous. There is science involved and need to do some research before following trends on youtube. Jewellery cleaners work by vibration. They rub the molecules together really fast causing friction. Friction makes heat. Thats why the exothermic reaction. If the lable doesnt say it can be used to degass resin, then I wouldn't.
Withlove, and keep the videos coming❤
