Thank you for making this test. Most tests I've been seeing lately are either camera or battery tests which was boring. If you want video, go for iPhone, if you want photography, go for the S Ultra, if you want battery, go for the ROG 7 Ultimate.
They've also failed bend tests for the last few years and have terrible Android update records. I'd be massively tempted by one if it wasn't for either of those!
@@shinydavidhowell I'm only in it for the consistent gaming. ROG 7 Ultimate and Redmagic 8S Pro are the best. Great comparison, both phones did a good job in my opinion, this is an extreme and unrealistic workload. I'm surprised at how strong the S23 ultra was, very happy with my purchase! Some years ago Samsung was known for very poor performance at top price and they've turned things around this year.
i think it would be more about how realistic those benchmark scores are. Anyhow, with much more demanding games like genshin impact and maybe the upcoming console like games in iphone they say, it would probally worth noting how the iphone could par with its soo called best performing chip yet.🤧
how is it unrealistic? Playing a game while on a video call?🤔 even my 778+ phone manages to do that.. its either the call or the game's performance that drops . How can these flagship phones can't manage this?
@gajarkahalwa9844 It's unrealistic because nobody does those tasks at the same time. He does it for the sake of testing and that's the point of the video but nobody uses their phones like that.
@@ManavWdhw there might be a difference but not too much cuz it has UFS 4.0 storage which has exactly 2 times slower read speed than the lpddr5x ram. For comparison, UFS 4.0 has exactly the same read speed as lpddr4x which is not that great for games. so it would barely make a difference
Great comparison. Seems the 3nm chip doesn't help much here. Not sure if it is the buggy Ios 17.0.X that made it throttle this badly or iPhone thermal strategy caused the differences. It would be reasonable to do a re-match when IOS 17 reaches its more mature version (IOS 17.1.X)
I think it's not just because of the software. The A series has 6 cores and Snapdragon has 8 cores. Basically, more core is better for real multitasking (running multiple apps at a time, not just switching between apps) because it's physically more capable. Of course, A series is a faster chip which means faster processing, but more core can do more processing
I don't think is just a software issue the main benefit of reduced lithography is exactly doing more with less (less heat less energy due to shorter distances) which is definitely not happening here.
Don't ever forget that its already been about 8 months since S23 ultra came out, and you've been using that phone for a year, which is a hit on the battery life already. ❤❤

The game is already optimized as well as possible It's literally there for a decade without barely any changes 🤣 Besides the optimization updates The thing is: You don't necessarily need to optimise a game for each specific phone

As someone who plays high end gaming on both Android and iPhones/iPads, this kinda mirrors my experience playing higher end games on mobile (myself playing Genshin and Star Rail on both). However they're probably caveats. While my iPhone 14 PM will dim the screen first, heat up a lot and then suffer a dip in performance after 20 minutes of playing, it was brief (5 minutes) before it corrects itself (although brightness still sucks) while my flagship Android phone (iQoo 11) is rock solid. However, one thing that I always notice is that the graphics fidelity in iPhones is better (not by much but still noticeable ) on the same setting, which can explain for the extreme throttling the iPhone experienced. Disclaimer: Genshin and HSR are massively optimised for iOS, and the makers of the game seems to have a deal with Apple considering the games have special settings (120fps) only on iOS devices
It's really interesting how they optimized their games the most for iOS. I mean it's understandable, but still kinda sad that they don't do it for the major Android phones as well. Geekerwan, another RUclipsr, tested the SD 8 Gen 2. He unlocked Genshin Impact and could run the game with 30 fps at 4k native resolution. The SD 8 Gen 2 is ahead of the GPU of the new A17 Pro in Performance and Efficiency, so I really hope they add support for higher fps on those games.
Genshin is a cpu heavy game, the lower power usage of the iphone in the game reflects the efficiency advantages apple has over android phone chipsets in spec2017. But iphones are limited to 4w for what looks like poor thermal capabilities, while flagship androids sustain 6w, geekerwan really explains this well.

The reason behind the iPhone lagged and dimmed, is because the chip it was meant to be like that, the system throttle the chip, that how they optimize their chip, because they prioritize battery health over performance, as for Samsung they don't have too much strict In their chip, so basically samsung is prioritizing performance, but in long term you might end up replacing the battery before the iphone

Very interesting video and nice to see a different view that no one mentions. My only question is: why? Why does this matter? It’s such an extreme case scenario. Are people buying phones just because it’s the fastest processor? I’m genuinely asking because in my eyes it’s like comparing DACs and lossless on a phone. I truly don’t see how this adds to a conversation. Yes, I am an iPhone user. No, I don’t care about brand loyalty. Yes, I do care about specs on my pc.
Because standard speed test and benchmark apps can be tricky. You have to perform worst case scenario in order to see real results. Of course people are not buying phones which has fastest processors, but this is a way to test a phones performance.
Well it's a stress test. You're paying over 1200 dollars for a top of the line phone and you're not gonna push it to its limits? That's stupid. Just buy a normal normal phone then. A $90 dollar Motorola can watch RUclips videos, call, and text just like these flagships if that's all you're gonna do.
@@firstclass000 I understand that, but I strongly disagree with your statement about if you don’t push something you buy to its limit, it’s stupid to own it. Whilst admittedly I do pretty much just use my phone for work, so texting, calls and emails, I wouldn’t buy a phone that cheap to do anything besides be a burner if I needed that for whatever reason. As I see it, you don’t buy stuff to push it to its very limits. For example, if you buy a car you aren’t gonna go max speed all the time, you aren’t gonna go in first gear always, or haul excessively heavy cargo all the time just to see where it fails. You buy stuff with enough headroom so you won’t have to worry about it. In this case the only thing I see of value for a top of the line phone processor is longevity, what I would like to see for example is a galaxy s10 vs an iPhone 11 and see how the processors hold up 4-5 years later. And also, just because you can get the basic needs out of any product for less than 1/10 of the price of the top of the line one. It doesn’t mean that simple tasks, like the ones you mentioned, are going be a usable experience always. If you would’ve said a more reasonable price point, say $600, I would’ve agreed, however you went to an absurd extreme to make a point.
@@asdasd-yt9wn that is true, I guess that is a good point. I just wish videos comparing old phones were a thing, I feel that would give a better idea of processor quality of a brand. Thanks for the input! Just as a side note, it sucks that some devices boost performance when they detect a benchmark to give a better “artificial” performance number.
Good video but the premise of your test is misleading. You started out by showing CPU performance benchmarks and then went on to demonstrate that the iPhone Pro has substantially less RAM than the S23 Ultra, which we already know - 12GB compared to 8GB. This is also why the iPhone 15 Pro performed better in this test than the iPhone 14 Pro, which has just 6GB of RAM. This type of stress test isn’t really indicative of CPU performance. A single app running a high intensity task/process would demonstrate real time CPU performance much more accurately.

this is an unrealistic load on the phones for most people, if you screen share asphalt 9 from your phone while watching a 4K something video you are probably the kind of person to use an android. Most people just want a phone that works, thats what you get with apple, phones that last long, don’t stutter, have good cameras and are easy to use. I am aware that the top of the line Samsungs have good cameras but even on the S23 ultra when I zoom in the phone stutters. And even in video! at that price point I find that absolutely ridiculous. I know I won’t be able to change your mind since you seem like you’re either extremely immature or just delusional, I have had androids before and I used to think I was better than everyone or that I “beat the system” but I was just fucking stupid 💀. So yeah, when I feel the need to screen share asphalt 9 while playing a 4K video then I will consider an android again but until then I’ll enjoy a phone that never stutters, and so will the average person ✌️. Just to clarify because yall often do this, I am not mad at all I actually find this hilarious, especially because you have commented this exact same thing multiple times. 😂
@@SuplexCityF5sorry but why are you saying like this!!?
Thank you for making this test. Most tests I've been seeing lately are either camera or battery tests which was boring. If you want video, go for iPhone, if you want photography, go for the S Ultra, if you want battery, go for the ROG 7 Ultimate.
ROG phones are overkill beyond compare😂
They've also failed bend tests for the last few years and have terrible Android update records. I'd be massively tempted by one if it wasn't for either of those!
@@shinydavidhowell I'm only in it for the consistent gaming. ROG 7 Ultimate and Redmagic 8S Pro are the best. i think it would be more about how realistic those benchmark scores are. Anyhow, with much more demanding games like genshin impact and maybe the upcoming console like games in iphone they say, it would probally worth noting how the iphone could par with its soo called best performing chip yet.🤧

@@boltez6507it's better to turn it on for better performance although for a very slight difference.
@@ManavWdhwno you idiot it's already debunked software ram extensions is just for hype
I wonder how it’s going to play AAA games with that kind of lag very insane
@@BEYOND-EGO I think it's okay if it's just running a game, as long as it's not running multiple processing at a time

This is one great thermal test review that is so different from typical speed test. It's so good that it's hilarious seeing the iPhone 15 pro max lag like a budget android phone 😂. Can you compare with the Pixel 8 pro too? I'm curious to see how that stands out
The Pixel 8 Rro will definitely perform better, given that the 7 Pro performed better than the 14 Pro Max.

Amazing insights and thanks for sharing them
It's really interesting how they optimized their games the most for iOS. I mean it's understandable, but still kinda sad that they don't do it for the major Android phones as well.
Geekerwan, another RUclipsr, tested the SD 8 Gen 2. He unlocked Genshin Impact and could run the game with 30 fps at 4k native resolution. The SD 8 Gen 2 is ahead of the GPU of the new A17 Pro in Performance and Efficiency, so I really hope they add support for higher fps on those games.
optimized for iPhone and still sucked the life out of the phone. that's an irony on a whole new level

@@edwardxplains6564well because math says 2+2 = 4. If under stress it throttles down, then... it may be that the chip
A) it's tired
B) it doesn't want
C) too proud
D) too much heat (immature 3nm or bad heat dissipation)
So, the same ol' thing as in the past "play and get in a dark cool room to see something on the screen".
No worries, the next iPhone may have a mature 3nm and a dissipation plate, then it may take a couple of minutes more to throttle...
@@minimilitiaking2511 awww dont cry eyefone blind fan
Look ur eyefone has lost in real life gaming
So keep ur @$$ n mouth shut
@3:30 you can see a message displayed on the iphone that says that maps has been disabled to cool down the phone.
😮I didn't see that. It cheated and still lost the second time.
Eagle eye, thanks for sharing this, now I know why the screen got locked but I can confirm that Maps didn't stop it only locked the screen as the message says
The exact video review I was hunting for ❤👍

I was a Samsung user before purchasing the 15 Pro Max. The iPhone has excellent brightness, however I dislike the warm tone of the display. Samsung has a more cool aura when it comes to display.
you should've included pixel 7 pro with android 14 as you've shown android 14 improves on performance and thermals on pixel
The s23 ultra is way better and with features like the programmable side key and gaming ,samsung has been able to do those things for years as well as USB C. I have the s23 ultra and it's the best phone ive ever used. Also the s23 ultra has dynamic island, multi tasking , s pen capabilities and emulators w with more games, and 10 x zoom with full clarity etc. However, I just used the 15 pro max today and the camera is impressive and it's very light but still my s23 ultra is more fun to use and also more capabilities and just wait until the z fold 6 ultra is released next year
Also with the iphone It can't really multi task, in screen fingerprint scanner, superior thermal management, use copy and paste clipboard, run emulators for old school games and new games , use s pen stylus functionality with gestures , download anything from anywhere at anytime, use smart view projection nor anything like DEX projection , wireless powershare which comes in handy when you forget charger , similar charging speeds. Also on ios 17 reaching the control center is harder then my old iPhone 6s and you can't really customize the navigation method to shapes like samsung which isn't necessarily for me . For me I'm a samsung guy but I'll say this iphone 15 pro I give the camera clarity props after testing it but Samsung once I experienced those features I can't live without them
The s23 ultra doesn't have dynamic island
@firstclassgamer00 yes it does I use it daily it's called dynamic spot
Must be a app I downloaded a app that allows me to have the dynamic island
@@firstclass000you serious bro? Dynamic Island?
It's literally not a feature it's just a notification spot.
@@dochedgehog exactly. And he said the s23 ultra has that dumb island in the middle of the screen when it doesnt
I really love your videos❤,and no one can do these workload test except from you
Damn i never thought someone would make this video. Thanks
ı liked this year's iphone models. but new chipset and overall build quality is a dissapointment :(. One year waiting will be a better choice for this year .
Honestly it feels much worse in hand when compared to the 14 Pro Max, it feels hollow from the back and the new coating on the metal rail is not good by any means
Why wait one more year wait 3months for 24ultra
@@IDTR I agree with you. . I like matte material, but 15 Pros feel cheap. It also leaves a lot of fingerprints. It looks ugly.
@@swarajtilekar3836 :d ı already use s23u. it is my first android phone and ı loved it. ı dont change my phone every year but s24u could be amazing (for leaks of course lmao)
It would be interesting to see if there were graphics quality differences in Android vs iOS versions of the games
Idk but I think if there is no option to change graphics on an iPhone, means the game runs on Balanced graphics but it's only my thoughts so
@@programmerivan5352do you think there would be a difference in the graphics level between the android and iOS version of the game itself? Maybe the iOS version is more intensive graphically?
@AgrimGupta No they are equal and render at 1080p, most games on both devices render at 1080p but use different APIs. Screen being better on galaxy make games look better. I know because i have both.
no dude apple gpu it trash when it comes to pixel fill rate and 3d workloads it is more focoused on isp(video processing) as they claimed that m1ultra is equivalent to rtx 4090 but it can't even match the performance of 3090 in gaming
All those Tech channels who swear by geekbench test every year should watch this. This channel is the real deal. Subscribed👍🏻
