That's just the pawns trying to boost your fps. Pawns are helpful by nature
Real 😂
Yooooooooo my pawn (named Squottard, funnily enough) is a real one! 😂
That fps is buttery now

Pawn talks back at me.
*Yeet of cliff*
The fact that this is one of the only solutions to this problem is hilarious...and a little sad.
@@TerranToroagree. The idea to wipe your team everytime before resting to avoid this is really a bad mechanic

Why isn't any os complaining about this to capcom?
This is why pawns are pawns, not friends. As soon as one give you lip, right off a cliff it goes.

Or you fckn dickhead you can dismiss them instead of killing them giving them scars
@@emcash8874into the brine they go
For those wondeing if you think a pawn has it here is what you do. If it is a summoned pawn just send it back. Thats all you gotta do. If it is your main pawn you gotta kill it. You can by throwing it into the ocean or off a cliff. The. Go to a rift stone and bring them back. And thats all. Just pay attention to what they say and how they act and it will never happen
You should kill it instead of sending it back so you cure it instead of passing it on to someone new
but i want to pass it on to make someone rage quit and sell the game at gamestop.@@chadgoose7886
After sending it back can you rehire it immediately afterwards and will it be cured then?
@@ThinkingCap_ not sure but best to avoid it till the original owner kills it.

Pawn start talking back to me: Slap.
Pawn look at me the wrong way: Slap.
Pawn eyes start glowing red: Slap-Slap.
Name it Robin and dress it in red and green.
I think you meant to change the l to a t😅
Damn one of the pawn I had with me was talking back smfh. I wasn’t paying attention
This feels like it should wake you up for a special ambush quest, like the hydra attacking the encampment in DD1
i knew something was off when it was running at 60 fps in the first city
lol
This is an insane mechanic. I've never seen a game add a mechanic like this and allow you to live with your consequences without the chance to revert it
Similar thing was done in mgs 5
Its like Sekiros dragon rot but on crack
I might be wrong but i think you can bring them all back by using wakestones in the charnel house
The problem is that it doesn't telegraph it happening enough.
The mechanic is poorly implemented.
As far as I am aware, your pawn only updated on the server when you rest at an Inn, so the game actively encourages you to do it. But there is a risk that the whole town could be wiped???
Ok then, since I am such a great threat to everyone, from now on I will only rest out in the wilds, where this isn't a possibility... Except now your pawn doesn't get updated.
1) they need to make it much more obvious
2) they need to make it so that camping also updates the server
3) if it happens while out in the wilds, now you have a drake battle on your hands.
As it stands, it's pretty shit.
@@TSotPto my understanding you need to focus on physical appearance (if they have a helmet on you can’t tell unfortunately) and voice lines. The minute they start denying requests. Toss them.
You can see if pawns are infected when their eyes start pulsing purple and they keep wiping their forehead

@@aazaze92 It’s beyond stupid since atleast if they have dark auras (like black and red) surrounding them, it would work better that way.

It could've been a cool mechanic... If your player character didn't just sleep through it. Imagine if the cutscene plays, your sleep is interrupted by screams outside. You aren't fully rested, not fully healed, and maybe you have limited equipment since you were sleeping, and now you have a challenging boss fight to save the citizens.
They literally already built in the ambush at camp mechanic, seems obvious to have done it similar.
@@user-fq8zw4pf7d Lol. 1. You find one off the body of a dead guard.
2. You go back to your room and grab it fast, like everyone whose ever stepped outside and realized they forgot their wallet or their keys.

@user-fq8zw4pf7d No soldier or otherwise trained/experienced fighter would ever leave their weapon, especially when specifically rushing towards what sounds like harrowing commotion.
@@anon2752 Nope. Whole game is fantastic. It just has one or two mechanics that could've been improved, and having to fight these shadow monster dragon plagued pawns with a chance at saving the citizens if you succeed would've been one of them. I'd even go as far as to say they should be extremely OP and that you wake up without the rest of your pawns to make it genuinely challenging. Furthermore, they should drop no exp. This would be the rectifying of recklessness, not a reward.
Arisen slept like a log huh, dragon attack wiped everyone out.

RIP, tsunderes...
When you made a resolution to stop throwing your pawn to body of water for shits and giggles but Capcom gives you a reason to do so all over again.
God fucking dammit.... orz
To stop dragonsplague, notice your pawn have an aggresive behavior, holding their head. Its gotten from fighting drakes that grab a pawn and do mindcontrol on them. The debuff can spread to other pawns too. To "cure" it, the pawn needs to die fully, no rez. And respawn them back via Riftstone.
And that also means, DO NOT FIGHT ANY DRAGON KIN UNTIL YOU ARE PREPARED! It’s a ticking timebomb waiting to happen…
I am so glad that there is so many people testing this game before the final version. Thank you!
I wonder if turning off Auto-sync for this game is a must, and manually sync the save files now and then. Back-up in case the plague wipes out a whole city, so you don't have to grind the way to revive NPCs.
On the plus side the frame rate improved.
If like me and you rested at an inn/ home while unknowingly having a plagued pawn, and locked yourself out of no turning back point with Brant (coronation quest) do this,
I can confirm this somewhat works. resting at home for 7 days revives key NPCs like ( Wilhemina

Dragon's Dogma 2 might be Itsuno's vision, but clearly that dude needs to have his glasses checked.
I mean it takes a full 7 in game days for it to get to this point.
In that time they mouth off to you, cast spells and use abilities that don't exist in any of the classes, flat refuse to follow orders and their physical appearance changes.

Yeah in my first playthrough I had gotten the notification that my pawn had gotten it but I didn't really care enough until I noticed her eyes were red and I thought "That's fucking weird" then I went to sleep at an inn and she killed all of Battahl. Eerie music played as you walk past all of the shops seeing everyone dead. If you come back a few days later every npc will be different. If you have the eternal wake stone then you can save everyone that was killed by the dragons plague.
imagine they wouldnt cut corners and have a actual "citydragonsplague"-state with burning houses, blood, destruction and special dead npc placement (not just dead on the spot).
When I heard the voice lines I thought it would just mean your pawns would eventually start fighting you, not a cutscene and suddenly everyone’s dead…a disease that turns helpful companions into enemies and spreads online sounded fun but this is just a chore
It would be fun if you could at least fight the Dragon but nope, you wake up and everyone is dead because you didnt throw an npc off a cliff for being a bit moody
@@nyxol3664 oh man yeah if it summoned a bunch of those dark dragons your pawn turns into that one time and you had to fight them to revive people or just rush to kill the final dragon, 10/10 mechanic, but as it stands it's just "womp womp now everyone's dead"
The dragons plague mechanic is dumb and encourages you to kill your companion often
What great mechanic to add to a game the prides itself in telling you shit and autosaves a single save slot.
If I make my main pawn a range like bow/mage can they still attract this or will it help them avoid it as they ain’t so close up with the dragon. I would guess it makes no difference tbh but was just curious lol.
Now I’m paranoid lmao
right lol sheesh
From what I've read in other comments:
How to detect in MP: pulsing eyes turning red, pawn disobeying some commands, casting spells not assigned to or looking different. On summoned side pawns, there should be a pop-up describing the plague when you summon your first diseased pawn.
Apparent cure: For Main Pawn, kill it and resummon. For other pawns, release them till their owner cures them. (Some people say killing then works too, haven't confirmed)
Cause: Being grabbed by a dragon and them incanting some magic on the pawn.
@@westpr1 thanks..just released my pawns and brined my main..just to be clear for now..going to start Sphinx soon but have no idea where my 1st seeker token was
@PROBL3Mtv np. For the 1st seeker token ive heard people mention they fail it and if its prior to the "How many riddles have been completed" then its 1 less than the total. Ex: 5 riddles done, 1 riddle failed. Then the answer is 5, not 6
I’ll literally have to watch my back around my own pawns, because this never happened to me in the first game other than them acting like fools and jumping off cliffs.
Guess now my pawns had enough and drive my own sanity off the cliff too.
Seems I got lucky because I remember the tutorial popping up and thought nothing of it. I was stuck in the wilderness with low max HP pawns (my lone camping kit was stolen and I didn't want to use up my one ferrystone) and along the way swapped one out for a passerby pawn because its max HP was way too low, it was slightly lower level than my other pawns, and I didn't know how long it would take to find an inn.
It must've been the pawn with the plague and I guess it didn't infect my main pawn because when I finally rested at an inn after wandering around aimlessly for an hour or two, nothing happened. I'm only seven hours in with no wakestones (I used up the one I had against a Minotaur) and I haven't even met up with Brant at the tavern yet because I wanted to explore before potentially moving the main story forward.
i think one thing that will be interesting with this is if we manage to either spread the plague so far it becomes a huge problem game wide as well as the opposite. if we manage to keep the spread down that it ceases to exist, like a community wide event either way.
You know theres gonna be accounts that keep the plague on their pawn forever lmao
@@kenamada5451 pretty sure it goes once the cutscene happens.
@@exemplar7205 By that I mean they never sleep at an inn. Keep a forever ill pawn. Probs keep the account like that, unless the pawn also recovers after destroying another players game.
I know that they also get cured when they pass the illness up to another pawn.
Wow... I mean, with the reward from the sphinx this is not that bad, just have to make sure you don't miss reviving anyone. But man, if you don't have that this is kind of fucked. How do you even know who is an important npc other than shop owners?
Which reward are you referring to? I had this happen early in my playthrough and now my save is ruined.
I’ve reached and have access to the Sphinx too so anything that will help would be great…
@@Abdulr7mn well big chest from Sphinx is an eternal wakestone (inf use) but to kill Sphinx you need an Unmaking arrow as otherwise you won't be able to kill here before she escapes. So strat is to clear all riddles to get all chests and before she runs away to start attacking her to start the combat and shot her to insta-kill her (once she starts to run away once her HP is low, at least this is how I did it). People say you can use arrow once combat starts but haven't tried it myself.
EDIT: Some people say it's not infinite but an aoe use, I'm not at the point yet to use it, but might try later this week to test.
Plus, quest reward giver could be anywhere in the entire city, they never point you towards them, plus, making this entire consequential situation completely ballooning out of control.
Dragonsplague is just another shitty excuse to use possessed pawn just to make your play-through far more unplayable than expected, especially if somebody like Brant died.
@@AnedimeThat doesn’t really narrow down what even is a AoE wakestones huh? And whatever or not it’s a consumable.
Either way, I’m glad I got the heads-up on this, but this feels genuinely mean-spirited to the players, why would the designers do this if they’re just gonna make the player suffer without realizing Pawns are connected to the Dragons as much as the Arisens are?
@@aquilliusranger2137 Its a wakestone that can be used infinitely. It's probably the hardest item in the game to get aside from Wyrm Crystal items.
I don't have the game and can't seem to find an answer online, if the pawn that gets infected is your own, what happens to it after it turns into a dragon? do you get them back after that, or are they gone or something?
Just resummon them
I wonder If the pawns get the sickness by fighting dragon enemies cause I remember in the first game lesser dragons could grab your pawns speak some weird incantation and mind control them only way to save them was to fully KO the pawn now in DD2 its a full blown sickness that can extend to other worlds that's wild.
Same ordeal. If the dragon grabs your pawn or another and finishes chanting before you save them, they will get the plague I believe.
Damn, gonna need a lot of wakestones in the mortuary
If you complete ecery Sphinx riddle and kill her, you get the Eternal Wakestone (one-time use) which will revive all NPCs within a massive radius, such as...an entire town. Tips for beating her riddles: Remember where you got your first Seeker Token. Remember how many riddles you succeeded at any given time. Save at inns before trying to do her riddles, since you only get one shot per riddle. When you complete them all, and shes about to fly away, ATTACK ONLY THE ANIMAL PARTS OF HER FOR THE ENTIRE FIGHT.
My main pawn talked back this one time. I was about to yeet him into the sea but decided to watch him first. No red eyes and no headaces. Since i want my high affinity pawn ending i decided to give him a chance.
He didnt turn after 5 rounds of sleeping. Very, very weird.
Look. The FPS has improved!
Now that is hiliarious. When I first got the message tutorial about dragonsplague. I immediately paused the game and went online to look it up, I found out everything I needed to know so this didn't happen to me in my game lol.
Cool mechanic but painful to deal with for sure. Even the ost change to a depressing and somber version. Kind of like that serious tone to the game really
Does loading from the last inn rest work,if it happens when out adventuring?
it auto saved once he rested. i think you'd be screwed anyway.
@@DreamerIntoxicate yup
Apparently the dragonsplague only triggers in towns, not in the wilderness :/
Watch their eyes. They'll be full on glowing red if they are about to pop. They'll also regularly grab their heads in pain.
in DD1, I always made my Pawn's personality super arrogant and aggressive so i never feel bad when I toss him off cliffs in fits of anger (like if I fuck up on a quest, instead of throwing something irl I toss him instead 😊). Dragonplague will never be an issue
Why does the message box that appears after the cutscene feel like a creepypasta 😂
How do you get the shield?
im boutta do this to every single village in the game and see what happens ngl
This is like Yurt, the Silent Chief, but nuclear-scale. Glad modern AAA games still know how to be ballsy every now and then
The real question I have, is why does your fighter look like he’s kitted out like a mystic knight?! Fighters get maces now?
They do get maces.
And they can use elemental attacks due to them.
Serious question here, so all we can do is throw them Pawns in the River or just let them die no res? every once in a while then?
Every time i open up the game my pawns get thrown in da water
istg I saw my pawn had purple eyes and was like "oh shit" and thought she could sleep it off 😭😭😭. Sht caught me off gaurd so bad
Hey, Can at least you start a New game?
So its a lame cutscene intead of a surprise dragon transformation?
Would have been better to have the infected pawn disappear in the world and a plague dragon spawns somewhere and you get a quest to slay it.
I also don't know if it deletes the pawn itself, if your main pawn gets infected.
@@dra6o0nnope u just have to re summon them

Worse yet, Dragon’s Dogma 1 never had this issues except maybe for getting rid of your pawns by Death perma killing your support pawns, and even then, you can still use an item in the game to reload a previous save before Death ended them.

This is a great mechanic with a poor execution.
It shouldn't be a cutscene. It should a timed boss fight. If you don't kill it in time the village gets wiped.
once 20% are infected a global event triggers for everyone apparently
It is easy as hell to detect. But than again I'm not running around with 3 pawns. I may use mine as a mule from time to time but that is it. But if you are running around with 3 pawns, chances are pretty good eventually you get it. Especially if you are blind to all the hints and warnings signs.
Looks like the in game fps boost kicked in
I really don't get all the whining about this mechanic being unfair and that it should be removed. The game warns you about this plague multiple times and when it happens it is fairly obvious. I do agree that they could have made it cooler with an actual fight but I still think this is an interesting mechanic, and is fairly easy to deal with as long as you are paying attention.
People are too used to save scumming these days lmao
@@Kyle-Marxluxiawe are. This game makes you live with that choice.
It's not that players CAN'T accept bad consequences (hell, players LOVE Undertale because it leaves lasting consequences), but rather that the consequences feel disproportionate / disconnected from the player's involvement. Imagine being a first-time player of DD2 years down the road; you don't know anything about Dragonsplague until you hire a pawn who does have it, and you get the brief tutorial...and that's about it.
In a vacuum, you chug along the story and try to keep your pawns alive (as any normal player would do) and you finally reach Bakbattahl or Vernworth. You spend the typical 2k gold to rest at an inn or sleep at the house you purchased, and then this cutscene triggers.
All the side quests you had planned to do, and the main quest you were prepping to do...all of them are on hold indefinitely. There's no quest to research a way to cure Dragonsplague, no indication as to what "a cataclysm" could imply, nothing like that at all. You as the player are now FORCED to either painfully and slowly revive the necessary NPCs for your side quests for HOURS AND HOURS and now you are COMPELLED to go online and spoil yourself silly just to figure out what the hell Dragonsplague is and how to cure it (which turns out to be the laziest one: letting them die).
People don't mind rolling with the consequences if the consequences didn't block game progression entirely. Undertale lets you kill or spare as many monsters as you want; you can still progress either way and live with the consequences. In MGSV, you can lose a LOT of staff to the parasite infection but you can still progress the game's story even with a severely limited Mother Base. You have consequences for negligence, tardiness, and lack of attention to detail, but you can manage all of these by playing a certain way and reacting to certain cues. You work towards a cure eventually in MGSV. You fight different bosses based on who you spare for Undertale. Players are given avenues and agency to manage the challenges as best they can.
Hell, even in indie games like Kenshi you can afford to lose limbs and get severely beaten; you're expected to lose limbs and get severely beaten in order to hone your character's combat skills. But even in Kenshi you're given prosthetics to help manage the limb losses, and eventually turn those weaknesses into strengths with enhanced prosthetics and accumulated fighting experience. People love consequences when the consequences are well managed.
In Dragon's Dogma 2, you can't move forward if someone like Brant or Sven dies. You cannot "manage" your pawn any worse or better so as to alleviate their symptoms or cure their illness. Unlike in DD1 and the anime, your pawn is no longer a valued ally; Dragonsplague goes against your better instinct and simply reduces pawns to disposable pieces to be culled once they give a bit of lip and attitude. How is that intuitive in any way to the game's other mechanics?
It's not always obvious though. You can't even hire a pawn with a helmet that conceals their eyes because of this. I just had my city wiped by a pawn whose eyes I couldn't see. I just dismissed 2 pawns who suddenly had red eyes and kept checking their heads when idle. I watched this next pawn like a hawk and he didn't do any of that. Stupid me for thinking all was well.
Well at least your performance is better in the city now.
The other solution should the above happen is to load from last Inn Save (Means you sleep at any inns).. But of course that will revert progress to that point of time.
But still better than to revive every single NPC....
It happens after resting at a inn/home. It auto saves, so there is no way to load a previous save if this happens.
Literal in-game incentive to send your pawns an untimely death if they start copping an attitude.
Lol, I never encoutered this.
I usually spent my nights in the wild, due to money problems.
I saw one Pawn with red glowing eyes and it literally didn't register in my mind until after completing the game.
Now i understand why they only allowed 1 save only.
Definitely need to take this out or at the very least limit it to 1 or 2 I mean seriously the vocation guy!!!! He needs to be a frickin immortal NPC for how important he is
The fact vendors and even the vocation guy can die is dumb as hell.
Definitely should not let itsuno or whoever thought of this idiotic mechanic that puts way too much burden on a core mechanic, think too much.
Go visit their graves and revive them with wakestones. The game tells you that you can do this immediately as soon as you meet a corpse you can revive
So the arisen is having the rest of his lifetime and would not notice that there is dragon butchering everyone in town, that has to change into a bossfight.
Ok that's fucked...
Ok after having dragonsplague literally just happen in my game there js a lot kf misinformation. The "red eyes" thing was hidden under a massive hat so I never saw that sign, never noticed any changes in behavior and the pawn that got me the warning message got petrified.

Think they should add an option to make npcs immune to death because a whole city being wiped out ruins it completely especially if you can’t revive them all and do they eventually respawn? Or are they gone for good
Some of them will be gone for good after 3 days, I’m startled to wonder if you can see the symptoms of your pawns until it is too late, it makes camping more like a necessity than the inn themselves now. Can’t believe how mean-spirited this is.
@@Anedime It nukes a whole town, and for 90% of people this happens to, that town is going to be Vermoth. I wouldn't call it mean-spirited, but I would call it stupid as fuck. It probably sounded really cool on paper (much like all the classes only being able to use 4 skills or the warfarer vocation), but things like this require a little bit more nuance than none at all. It literally says if only you would have payed more attention, my pawn just got infected, and I noticed because she was starting talking shit to me, besides their eyes glow reddish purple. I am not very attentive but bruh, just toss them into the water done
Damn I got pretty lucky or something cuz I haven't been paying attention to hired pawns other than when they started talking about the plague and one of them being way too annoyingly sassy to me that it justs pisses me off that after a few in-game days I chuck them to their death. Probably avoided a disaster there lol
Same lmao. This woman is like “don’t tell be what to do” while I’m getting dragged by a wolf. Glad I got rid of her
PSA if you wait o ur a week of in game time all the NPCs respawn
I understand they want to make you pay for the mistake but this feels very extreme especially considering you can’t just simply reload to revert the mistake
It just show how inconsequential most of the NPCs are. The only one that matters is Brant since he gives quests for the main story. I killed Disa as soon as I saw her in the castle after the coronation. Literally nothing happened because she's not even in the story again until the post game stuff and you just have to revive her to keep going.
What armor is that?
Luckily, the Eternal Wakestone exists even if it is a pain to get, Infinite NPC revives lol
*Me Looks at all the Dead Bodies and the higher FPS while taking one last Look at the Survivors*
"Thanks for the Work ol chump but somebody has to finish it."
My pawn got infected but... he got cured somehow, I'm sure he didnt die or anything.
There has to be more to this plague. What happens if your pawn kills literally everyone in every city/village/town?
This is hilarious to me. I still remember people going batshit crazy over the rotting mechanic in Sekiro at launch even though it was completely inconsequential.
This will ruffle a lot of peoples feathers.
This is what the eternal wakestone is for btw. It will revive the whole town.
Would be cool if they all turn into zombies
one time, I tried to boost affirmation with NPC. I skipped several days at vornworth and it just happened😢.
Pawn after nuking the town with the plague: “Oh, what does this say?”
They only have room in their heart for 1, and that’s the Arisen.
Also love how even though everyone’s dead, he’s still so subjugated that he won’t break the rules and enter the castle 😂
I haven't started the game yet so to avoid this do I need to hire a pawn that doesn't have this dragonplague infection. If I do hire a pawn and notice how they're acting rude and disrespectful do I just send them back to the rifts before resting at an inn or house?
The first time you hire there is a tutorial pop-up that shows up telling you about this mechanics, aside from that the story tells you that the Arisen can command the Pawns, if they start being disrespectful, if they don't obey if you use a "come to me" or if they attack you, they have the plague, if they are hired you need to send then back, if it's your main Pawn you need to kill him/her, like throwing from a cliff and then revive on a Riftstone.
@@exocitus8731 OK. I just started the game and hired 2 pawns neither of them were infected by the dragonsplague. It didn't triggered the tutorial warning about the dragonsplague so I think it will only trigger if I did hire a pawn that does have that disease. So far so good for me but still I'm making sure that the pawns I hired as well as my main pawn don't have the glowing red eyes and don't become rude and disobedience.
@@edmartinez925Yeah that is pretty much it, you should only see plagued pawns at higher levels too, you just need to pay attention a little and it should never be a problem
I like the idea of the mechanic but the implementation is straight bs
It seems like there needs to be more of a chance for players to actually do something about this once the epidemic is in full spread rather than just have them walk into an empty city once it's all over without any kind of warning beforehand.
Shoulda been more than just a cutscene. That's lame af. Now if your pawn spawned a dragon or turned into a dragon that you have to fight in town that'd be cool af.
@@CopiousDoinksLLC every time you hire pawns from the rift and come back, your pawns will talk about this plague and its symptoms. That's warning #1, repeated every time you hire pawns in the rift.
When you hire a pawn infected with it the first time, the game immediately presents a tutorial on dragonsplague and all of its symptoms and exactly what will happen if you don't deal with it. That's warning #2
A pawn with dragonsplague will have glowing red eyes, something other pawns do not have. They also are reluctant or even disobedient about your orders. That's warnings #3 and #4
And the illness takes 7 days to manifest as a fullblown dragon. So you have 7 days to notice all of the above.
At this point if it still catches you by surprise, you're just plain illiterate
So many orphans.
